Oil cleansing method - do you do anything in the morning?

Hi, I have just started the oil cleansing method. I 've done loads of searches but still have three questions. I would be very grateful for any more information regarding the issues below :)

I understand that you do the OCM at night, a few times a week but what do you do in the morning?

I read a splash of water would be fine but I was in the shower this morning and so my face got soaked and felt very dry afterwards. I wasnt' sure what to do.

ALso if you aren't meant to do it every night how do you take off make up or grime the night you don't do it?

Last question Grin the thought of going around with an oiled face in the summer (albeit wiped off) scares me. Usually I use a moisturiser with an SPF in it. How do you protect yourself from the sun using the OCM?

Thank you anyone who can help.

I've been using OCM for 4 months now and I love it. My skin feels and looks so much better!

I use it every night to cleanse and remove my make-up. A couple of times a week I'll have a bath, leave it on longer and massage thoroughly. I don't use it in the morning. I take a night off from it if I'm not wearing make-up that day.

After I've done it I apply a little bit of pure jojoba oil and go to bed. In the morning, I moisturise as usual with my Olay 30 SPF and then put my make-up on, as it's been thoroughly cleansed the night before.

Using oil to cleanse ensures you don't upset the acid mantle of your skin, which is why you shouldn't need a moisturiser afterwards. You should feel supple and satiny after it. If you feel dry, try a little less castor oil in your mix.

I use some Dermalogica Microfoliant each morning.

I do the OCM every night, I don't see why you couldn't do that as long as you use an oil mix that suits you. (I don't use castor oil at all, just rice bran oil which is very gentle.)

I just splash with water in the morning. That can make skin feel a bit tight, but I put on a moisturiser with SPF straight away, then make up.

I do as others do - do OCM most nights (unless I am being lazy, in which case I abuse my skin with dr bronner castille soap). I put eye cream on after OCM, but not moisturiser. In the morning I use a flannel and hot water (or the shower water) and apply spf straight after. Mine isn't a special moisturiser with spf, but I find it moisturising enough (it's a Green People one).

Just wanted to say thank you to you all.

I hadn't realised that putting on a bit of normal moisturiser was ok. I thought the oil was meant to be cleanser and moisturiser.

Anyway I won't panic so much now and will use my normal morning moisturiser though maybe a bit less. Thanks all.

This sounds interesting. Could someone tell me what it is please? I always have dry tight skin. Thanks

I was using OCM, then ran low on oil.
I had a John Lewis voucher so bought some Liz Earle Hot Cloth Cleanser. It is very good, but not a patch on the OCM.

I think I might OCM every night and Liz Earle in the mornings.

try coconut oil instead, much nicer and smells better too!

and I use oil every night to remove makeup/cleanse, just water in the morning and some flower water before applying serum/cream

Be careful with coconut oil on your face, it's comedogenic which means it's really heavy and pore-blocking. Good for hair and skin elsewhere though :)

Is there much difference in results between using the OCM and just using an oil cleanser such as Shu Uemura?

I oil cleanse each morning and do nothing at night.

MissHonkover - the difference is that OCM is a darn sight cheaper than branded oil cleansers, and you know exactly what you're putting into your skin too.

MissHonkover, I tried Nude oil cleanser and the only difference really was you add water to it to make a kind of milk before removing it. It has a nice smell and a list of fancy extras like omega oils etc, but basically it feels the same to me as using my mix of jojoba, castor and olive oil.

The reason I started doing the OCM was I wanted to get away from chemical-laden skin products. I think ready-made oil cleansers would be good if you can't be bothered with the faff of buying and mixing your own oils. But I like that bit :)

Me too kyacat!
I used to make potions with handsoap and rosepetals (and other assorted garden gumpf) all the time when I was a kid.

My mix has grapeseed oil, castor oil, and a drop or two each of Rose, lavender and geranium.

ooh nice :) I fancy making my own rosewater :) Just now I add a drop of lavender EO and Patchouli EO to my mix.
