V amused/bemused by your responses. Sports Day is a whole day social for the parents and kids where we are and everyone makes an effort to make a great day, bring picnics and food to bbq etc etc

If you find the idea of turning up to sports day in anything except a trackie too terrifyingly middle class you would be horrified by another school locally where parents arrive the night before sports day to pitch their gazebos in prime positions and bring flagpoles so they can fly their family crests.

There were a range of outfits on display at our (very ordinary state primary) sports day last week, from 'couldn't give a toss' right through to some carefull planned ones....but the scary teachers ensured that nearly all the parents in attendance did either the mummies or daddies race. Worth thinking about!

(I tried to hedge my bets in kne length cargo shorts with a mango floral tee and flat sandals. Bitterly regretted not slipping my trainers in my bag when I had to race barefoot and came second. Second!! With the right footwear I couldabeenacontender.

Notyummy am hugely impressed! My kids would have died of pride if I had come second in anything.

I cannot imagine anything more hideous than mothers' races and, fortunately, our school must agree as they don't have one.

Yes, fairly hideous. My first year as DD in reception so no idea what to expect. Teacher had a GREAT line in 'healthy lives and setting an example to our children that exercise is something we support and take part in - this should be FUN!' Cue about 80% of the parents heaving a guilty sigh and lining up....

Well, planning an outfit from what's in ones wardrobe may not be too unusual but buying something specially for sport's day is unusual I think for the vast majority hence some of the comments on here I guess.

I was asked at sports day if I was going to a festival . I had denim shorts, Lycra tights, black vest, festival style waterproof coat and me wellybobs.

I was sat on my camping chair with a face like a slapped arse, reading my book in between races.

And i wasnt planning to chuck the top in the bin after the last race is run, suspect it will be worn to death, like everything else I own. If i had anything faintly wearable in my wardrobe, rest assured I would be dragging it out!

Your sports day doesn't sound like ours either, am intrigued by the school whose parents erect flagpoles for the family crests the night before.

I am going to get the kids to create our very own crest, I'd like badgers in it in some form. I expect they'll ruin it by adding something out of Star Wars.

OP - I am not very good at style, but I just want to say don't wear the white jeans if there is any possibility of errr.....getting a blood stain on them!
