Most detested makeup brands

Benefit - beneshit. Make up for teenagers or people who know bugger all about makeup but like the twee packaging. And it stinks.

Max factor - nothing I have ever bought from that range works. Infinity lipstick made me look like dried up hag, the cream blush has texture of ronseal, eyeshadows are crap, foundations crap colours.

MOST of maybelline. I tried that Eraser stuff out of morbid curiosity, it looked awful, like I had smeared PVA glue on my face. However I have a cream blusher from there which I love.

Clarins. I just don't get it.

No 7 - eyeshadows have no pigment, lipsticks are meh, had that green packaged mascara and it was odd. Make up for people who like Next clothes.

Bourjois, nothing ever works! Nasty stuff.

Ditto the Max Factor Lipfinity, totally rubbish, makes my lips look dry and flaky. I've been disappointed by No 7 concealer and eye colours too (only bought them because I had a £5 off voucher from Boots). So disappointing.

Noooo.......my entire make-up drawer is No.7 and Max Factor.

DH works for the latter so it's freebies-a-gogo. I agree about the Lipfinity lipstick, though, ghastly stuff.

I bought a max factor lipfinity lipgloss. It was a peachy pink in the tube, once on it was bright orange. According to DD is looked like brick dust mixed with lard.

Most of it faded and I was left with a circle of orange tint on the outline of my lips. It looked horrible, I had to scrub it off.

I have got a soft spot for bourjois, that was my favourite brand when I was a teenager (thought Bourjois was POSH) and the smell takes me back. I can't rememebr the last time I bought any though.

Clinique. The only 2 things I ever liked from there have both been discontinued. And I hate their skin-care. I know this is a makeup thread but every time I used to go to get the 2 things I did like from there they'd always be on "gift time" where if you buy a 3rd thing you get some crappy quilted purse full of things you don't want and it always said "one to be skincare" and I always used to say to them, no thanks, I don't rate your skin care. And they'd always look so amazed that I didn't want to pay £££ for something really crap just so I could get some freebee tiny sized bollocks.

Bareminerals. I know some people love the mineral foundation and I too used it for a while and at one point even said I'd "never use normal foundation again" but I'm over that phase but even when I was into Bare Minerals I never got on with their blush or eyeshadows...just no pigment to them. And so sparkly. You could seriously end up looking like a powdery old granny who had a disco ball ejaculate on her face Hmm and so overpriced for what it is.

i loved the bourjois packaging as well, remember you had to press a gold button to get into the circular, rounded eyeshadows...?

I have been conned into buying No7 stuff (to get the freebie stuff) and have always been disappointed. It just all looks old fashioned imo.

Elizabeth Arden. Utter shite.

I can't be doing with mineral shit, emperor's new clothes.

You do look like a powdery old lady going tio a whist drive.

Bourj eyeshadow and blusher packaging lovely, you always get a teeny tiny brush which gets lost 3 nanoseconds after purchase. I think I have got an old pot of cendre de roses brune somewhere, is a good colour.

do think bareminerals are good for the greasy of skin, actually, so long as you apply with massive nars kabuki brush.

Never bought any Liz Arden.

One beauty brand which I think is always overlooked and actually does some fabulous midpriced stuff (the pigment in their eyeshadow for instance is v good for the price) is REVLON, however I think the brand itself just screams mid90s Cindy Crawford. Needs an update.

Does it not Getorf? I must be doing something weird then.

She likes By Terry Darilylea - don't listen to her.

If you can afford it go for Chanel through and through. Grin

Revlon really needs an update including its packaging. I'm not all about packaging but I do find it very very unappealing. Particularly the eyeshadows etc.

I do rate No 7 foundations - only used the Lift and Luminate one but its really good. But they do excellent colour matches for my type of skin so sometimes that's all it takes to like something - when it goes on nice and dissapears but covers any blemishes or whatever then that's all you really need from a foundation (as long as it stays on, isn't powdery or greasy, etc etc)

I generally agree about Benefit too but I would say they do some good eyeshadows. But there aren't many brands that can't boast one or two decent eyeshadows in their collection, to be fair, so eyeshadow isn't really a major factor.

I think Dior is under-rated, their packaging also needs a bit of an overhaul.
Bodyshop is under-rated, there are some very good cheap basics in their collection.

Oh and this is not a makeup brand per se but I think there are some very overpriced makeup brushes and tweezers. Tweezerman tweezers. They go out of whack as easily as any other tweezer - one day you go to use them and find they just don't meet at the right point anymore. Doesn't seem to matter whether you've kept them away from kiddies or not. They just suddenly go out of whack. Yet the boots own brand £1.38 slanted tweezer will also go out of whack, but you can buy about 12 more pairs and let them go out of whack before you have spent the same as one pair of Tweezerman. Is this just me? Do I abuse tweezers?!? I don't even use them much, I get threaded, but I just like to pluck the odd one out here and there.

Some cheap makeup brushes will shed fur everywhere but many wont. Trial and error but I always Shock when I see how much some brushes cost.

Another vote for Benefit- you just pay for the packaging
Clinique= CRAP. Their mascara is the worst I've ever used.
