Gaudy but exquisite silk jacket. would you get it?

I was in a boutique yesterday and found a really flashy (lots of bright colours) silk jacket reduced from £250 to £15. The silk was so beautiful. I didn't consider it at the time but now think it might be okay with black trous/leggings and a white cami/tee. It was soft and unstructured. Would it be a waste of money to buy it do you think? The sheer beauty of the material is so tempting.

Would it be suitable to have a cushion made out of it if you never wore it?

BunnyLebowski Sat 18-Jun-11 11:42:30

Sounds like the kind of thing my inner magpie would be attracted to (esp at that reduction!).

Like you say, with understated trews and a white vest it could look fab.

Don't spose you got the make so we can find a pic?

Georgimama Sat 18-Jun-11 11:42:39

As you are "only" wasting £15 if you end up never wearing it I say buy it (and then make a cushion out of it as bob says).

NunTheWiser Sat 18-Jun-11 11:43:14

If a piece makes you smile, buy it.

JohnStuartMills Sat 18-Jun-11 11:43:25

Yes, a very gaudy cushion at that! There was lots of pink hues.

I wonder if silk can be dyed.

go back and try it on. If it suits you, buy it. £15 is not much money and it sounds like a classic piece which you may not wear often but which you will probably wear occasionally for several years. I expect however that you will find that when you try it on there is some style flaw, or it would have sold already.

TheMotherOfReinfection Sat 18-Jun-11 11:52:55

Yes, you can dye silk.

FakePlasticTrees Sat 18-Jun-11 11:53:07

go back, try it on, if it suits you, buy it. Gaudy or not, if it will make you smile, then get it.

However, check it wasn't £250 reduced to £150...

JohnStuartMills Sat 18-Jun-11 11:58:35

Thanks all. I'll go back and have another look. It was so busy though. Will now take on board the possibility of dyeing it. It was so lovely I'd consider framing it and hanging it on the wall as 'art'.

Blackduck Sat 18-Jun-11 12:01:43

If it is £15 what is stopping you?

cybbo Sat 18-Jun-11 12:01:58

I say go for it

if you are still thinking about it now its a sign it belongs to you

I bought a gaudy jumper yesterday, love a bit of gaudy me

twoboots Sat 18-Jun-11 12:37:57

Is it anything like this?
It was on four rooms last week, i would love to own it just to look at it.

I'd pay £15 for your boutique item and turn it into something else- scarf, cushion cover or you could use it to line a hand bag or another jacket.

if it is only £15 and you want it then buy it

doozle Sat 18-Jun-11 12:58:20

To be honest, it sounds a bit odd. It's one of those things you need to see but I just can't imagine it looking nice. Sorry!

ColonelBrandonsBiggestGroupie Sat 18-Jun-11 14:28:00

I think it would be fab with just a black or white camisole and jeans. What colours? I'd snap a couple up if I were you and they were the 'right' colours.

JohnStuartMills Sat 18-Jun-11 17:12:52

I know it's only £15 but have got a few things from the 'reduced' £15 rail and don't want to acquire any dross I'll just have to lodge for a while and then chuck. It's Custo Barcelona and i think like this one (jacket only). Cost is a bit elevated in shop at full price.,6/ZANIT%20ROSES%20GREEN

Thing is, deep down I think dozzle may be right and it is a bit odd. Another problem I have is I don't look like that model.

JohnStuartMills Sat 18-Jun-11 17:14:07,6/ZANIT%20ROSES%20GREEN

think that's right.

JohnStuartMills Sat 18-Jun-11 17:14:47

sorry, am trying.

BunnyLebowski Sat 18-Jun-11 17:16:26

This one?

JohnStuartMills Sat 18-Jun-11 17:18:04

Yes, thanks. It is beautiful, but maybe not as clothing.

JohnStuartMills Sat 18-Jun-11 17:57:14

Now there's a picture, do you think it's 'dire' or 'dior'? could dye it.

CoffeeIsMyFriend Sat 18-Jun-11 18:01:10

I like it.

PedigreeChump Sat 18-Jun-11 18:14:39

I think it's fab!!!!
