wanted - stylish, bum covering waterproof coat

i know this has been done a million times before, but does anyone know of any stylish, properly waterproof (not resistant) mid thigh length coat? despite hours and hours trawling the web have yet to come up with something in my size, in stock and that doesnt look like something my daughter or gran should be wearing. needs to be suitable for nursery runs, smart enough for work - soaked twice yesterday getting to office from car, buggy pushing, days out etc etc.

i dont mind paying a bit (say £150 - 200 tops) if it ticks all the boxes. shape is curvy, should that make a difference to style. any help gratefully received - am bloody fed up of getting wet!

I have two words for you:

Merrell Wakefield

And it's half price - what more could you ask for :o

Seriously though - it is the best waterproof - I have been in serious rainfall and not a drop has got through. The great thing about it is that the water forms droplets on the surface so all you need to do it give it a quick shake when you get home and its practically dry again.

Honestly - get this - there is nothing else on the market that ticks all the boxes.

thank you - looks just the thing Smile. will have to google though as seems to be out of stock for web delivery. what is the sizing like? does it nip in at the waist? lots of coats look very 'boxy' on me. i must be a weird shape!

I have this one. They only have purple left, but makes a change from black. I really like it. It's not too warm, but warm enough because round here when it starts raining, no matter if its June (last Sunday 6C), it's still cold! It has a nice shape to it too.

What colours does that Merrell Wakefield come in?

I'm a 12 and the wakefield M is a good fit on me - definitely go for a medium.

Yes - it curves in at the waist - I think it is probably the most flattering raincoat that I've seen.

The hood is very good and has a peaked bit so you don't get a wet face.

I think last year the wakefield came in plum, black and a khaki.

They have the wakefield in black in a medium on amazon if that helps!

Chandon, I do like the look of the Aigle coat. What colour did you get?

I am rather large breasted and nervous of double breasted coats as I feel they will emphasise that area.

OOh I remember the thread about these last year, they are so good I bought 3 Blush the plum in a L was 140, the m in brown but the thicker version, was fab in the snow, was warm as toast and bought the black in s recently in the sale. As you can tell, after having my ds slimming world has paid off!!!

OMG!

I just called the Bristol branch of Go Outdoors (0845 112 0138) to ask if they had that Merrell jacket in stock. It was definitely the right number, because the woman said it was the Bristol branch.

I got half way through asking, and the woman interrupted and said "I've got to go, I'm giving my partner a blow job" and hung up!

This seriously happened less than 5 minutes ago Shock !!

I want to complain to the manager, but I'd feel really embarrassed to tell them

Blimey.

Are you sure it wasn't a woman who lives in Bristol & has a v similar phone number to Go Outdoors & just gets really sick of wrong numbers? If not, well, blimey.

Udderley, I'm a 12 on the top and a 14 on the bottom and 5'4", and I got the L so it wasn't too tight over knitwear in the winter. I didn't feel that there would be enough give in the M, esp round my hips. It's fine, maybe a bit roomy, but fine. And damn waterproof.

fotheringhay, assuming it was the actual store, I dare you to call back & ask if she's finished yet.

I feel too shy! But I'd love it if someone else had the guts to.

It was definitely the right number.

So bizarre.

Re the Aigle, I am 32G and got the 18 (they are close fitting) and the red. I did wonder about the wisdom of getting a double breasted mac but it atually looks quite neat!

ok so it has arrived. and it seems waterproof, is a nice length on me (am 5'7 its just few inches above knee). seems to be a bit big around the middle though - would have preferred a bit more nipped in around the waist, tho that may be due to my odd shape. but a good purchase i think so thank you! will see how it copes on the nursery/work run tomorrow..
