I'm 38 and a Mummy of 2 who has started to look a little haggard and in need of some help. I want gorgeous glowing skin and fab looking eyes...

My skin has become dull, sallow looking, showing wrinkles and just plain boring. I have a combination skin and sensitive eyes even my neck needs help.

Can anyone recommend anything to help -
Cleansing
Toning
Moisturising (Day and Night)
Serums
Eye Creams
Neck Creams
Anything, I'm desperate xx

Maybe even some make up advice would help

Thanks you Smile

Dermologica gets great reviews but you really do need a consultation to get the best out of it. Check the website for a specialist in your area.
Eve Lom is the origional Liz Earl. Most people who use EL think it's the very, very best product on the market. You don't need to use a toner with it.
Oil cleansing method is cheap and easy for cleanser. I'm doing it ATM and it's great. It also has many MN devotees. I haven't had a breakout since starting on it.
Clarins is said to do fab stuff for more mature skin.
Estee lauders advanced night repair serum is brilliant IMO as is the matching eye cream.

For make up get thee to Bobbi Brown. Excellent range, well priced, suits lots of skin types, lots of low maintainence stuff as well as high, usually well trained staff. Again, loved by many a MNer.

Most important skin care things:
-remove make up every night
-wash face every night
-wear sun screen every single day. Sun screen built into a moisturizer or tinted foundation is easiest.

You don't need Liz Earle - although I've used it and it's nice. There is nothing in a cleansing product that will change your skin. You simply need something emollient that will suit your skin (for example, not all oils and emulsions suit all types and it's trial and error) and a method of removal.

For me, that's any oil and a facecloth or muslin wrong out in hot water. I use castor and sunflower. I rinse and take off the makeup several times and simply rewash the cloth.

Others don't find oil suits and can use Cetaphil or something like aqueous cream.

My friend, a dermatologist agrees. There is no need, and you will get no benefit from using something costing $$$$. It doesn't have active ingredients and besides, it doesn't stay on the skin long enough to do anything anyway. It is simply an overpriced, nice smelling emulsion of fats in water. Plus I HATE anything coming in those pump action tubes as you cannot see how much product there is and its usually much less than you think you are paying for.

Ditto face creams. Almost always a Waste of Money.

Save the cash that would go down the plughole and spend it on fancy mascara, decent shoes, nice cashmere.

You could try the Paula's Choice Resist weekly resurfacer, that IS a good treatment for dull skin. I use it (when not pregnant) and have great results. It actually contains a high enough level of an active ingredient so can actually back up its claims.

I've just bought some stuff from the Aldi Lacura range - in tests it came out better than stuff costing £££££s more. It seems lovely and it's cheap as chips.

I use dermalogica, it has really helped with my complexion. I have combination and spots, oh yes and now wrinkles.

I also use a microdermabrasion scrub once or twice a week, which helps brighten me up.

I do love the Liz Earle stuff, but actually you can do the hot cloth cleansing thing with any cleanser, and a stack of muslins or cheapy face flannels - for a really useful explanation of it, \link{http://www.guardian.co.uk/lifeandstyle/2011/mar/26/hot-cloth-cleansing-beauty\this column and video on the Guardian's website} is great. And because you sling the cleanser on everywhere, it's really easy to just do your neck at the same time as doing your face, then you can either just use your facial moisturiser, or body one, or whatever on your neck (if it's really dry, you could try the Waitrose Baby Bottom Butter on it - v natural and cheap).

Liz Earle, it is amazing stuff - although I use the Boots P&P serum.

Make up, Bobbi Brown is the best I have come across and it lasts for ages and ages so is good value IMO.

I've just got some neal's yard rosehip oil beauty balm and it is lovely. It's about £34 from Boots.

I have just bought the Elemis sensitive range after a facial on holiday. Really lovely stuff although I usually use Liz Earle and rate that too! I use Eve Lom at night which again I think is good but when i run out I am going to try a cheaper alternative as it's a bit pricey!

Out of interest does everyone use a specific night cream or do you use the same cream day and night?

For years I have been using aqueous cream and a clean face. It costs very little and you can then afford to splash out on moisturiser. I use Laura Mercier tinted for day and Bio Oil at night.

I'm early 40s and my skin was looking pretty grotty till I implemented the following:

Morning - Lush Coalface bar in the shower (preferred Babyface but it's been discontinued) followed by a small drop of organic rosehip oil on the problem areas only (crows feet, frown lines) followed by a cheap moisturiser with SPF in, or Ultrasun SPF30 for very sunny days.

Evening - Lush Ultrabland cleanser (oily cream) removed with Lush Eau Roma on a flannel, then organic rosehip oil rubbed in followed by Nivea creme. All over face, neck and cleavage.

Once a week - Clarins Gentle Peeling mask for exfoliation

My wrinkles are much less noticeable, everywhere is smoother and I don't seem to get dry patches any more.

I use 'This Works' cleanser, but personally I think cleansers are very personal to the person.

I agree with the other posters about Bio Oil (and so do all women I've ever spoken to about it!), vaseline intensive care body lotion, and the Dermalogica microdermabrasion powder too.

I started off using Lancome as a student, was very good for sensitive skin. I then switched to Decleor which I loved as it is very good for dry, sensitive skin. After about 10 years of using it I became bored and used Chanel cleanser, toner cream but did not like it, did not seem to do anything, although if you are loaded my mum swears by Chanel Sublimage, its about £220 but makes her look great.
I then used Eve Lom cleanser and cream, loved the cleanser but not the cream. However found the cleansing regime a faff and bought some Liz earle which I think is the best for my skin at the moment (35 with sensitivity, dryness but no wrinkles yet). I also use the LE toner and cream for dry skin. I think LE is reasonably priced and worth trying.

I tried the sanctury liz earle rip off and it made me break out really badly I'm still waiting for the spots to fade.

Never leaving liz earle again.

I'm using Alpha-H range of skin care. Totally brilliant. My skin feels amazing. I'm 46 with 2 demanding boys! Don't feel quite so haggard!

Balancing cleanser and Liquid gold are brilliant. Not cheap - QVC do have deals or try some of the online beauty websites.
