I am being a bridesmaid in September for my sil. I have the dress sorted (chocolate brown) but I need some shoes. My problems are, I'm not 'delicate', I never wear heels (but I do have 3 months to practice) and I'm skint (£40 max).

I'm thinking mid heel beige/nude court style type shoes

Here are some options for a novice heel wearer - the first ones look high but its a thicker heel so easier to wear than you think... also thrown in shop style search at the end...have a browse..

sturdy heel

block heel

mid heel

Ooooo thank you! I love the first ones but I'll have to practice a lot. Housework in heels from now on I think.

That last link is fab - I think I missed out of some vital part of femaleness when I was wired together as I'm so shit at shopping!

You'll be fine as they are platforms too so alot more comfortable to wear than stiletto shoes, plus the heel is chunkier which will help with your balance.

Buy them, wear them alot before the big day, and enjoy!!

I'll have to get my friend to try them on for me (I don't live in the UK and she has the same shape/size feet as me) and see if she stacks it in the shop Grin

now, showing my real 'posh stuff' noviceness, can you get nude tights that can be worn with a peep toe?

And thank you for being my guruSmile

I'd go for a wedge if I were you Gilby me old mucker. Wedges seem soooo much easier for balance. I love my heels but once I partake of a shandy I tend to take giant strides and that means my weight falls on the back of the teeny heel and can send me sliding across the floor like John Travolta circa 1978. A wedge is better and I feel confident that even when I walk like John Wayne I'm not gonna fall.

LK Bennett if you can order them or have them over there are great for really well balanced shoes. Worth the extra £.

Yes you can get peep-toe nude tights in M&S though buy a few pairs as they ladder. The feckers.

I can't really wear wedges up the aisle though can I? The other bridesmaids are all skinny and lovely looking and I have to stagger walk up the aisle dragging my 3yr old brat daughter and 5yr son (who'll be sulking due to wearing something other than a Lightning McQueen tshirt) behind me. I think I might just stick to the converse Grin

Rollerblades Grin Do it with style!

If you're a novice, I'd suggest something with a strap, or bit across the front of the foot. Not as pretty, buy waaaay easier to walk in.

Too chunky?

Embelished

These come in wide.

Crissy crossy.

While none of these are beautiful IMO, they should be ok to walk in. I have ruined so many events by wearing shoes I can't walk in. I'd tempted to wear, or take, snazzy flats for the dancing.

Grin pinot Now that would be interesting - my last experience on rollerskates was getting yelled at by a neighbour when I was 8 because I went flying into his forsythia bush and broke a bit off with my face. It hurt.

Queefer I like all those (they're the type of shoes I dream of wearing) but I'm not sure I could pull them off. I need something a little bit chunky due my top heaviness. And also, I'm not exactly known for my femininity and daintiness!

I can't access all of the links cos I'm on my phone, but if you look at the evans website they do a satin court shoe called twist vamp or something. It's in their bridal range but they have it in a beigey brown IIRC and they come in wide and are fabulously comfy. I never wear heels but got a pair for my impending wedding and they're super-comfy to walk in. I too have dreams of trudging down the aisle in my PF Flyers Grin.

PMSL at rollerblades (perhaps you could get co-ordinating elbow pads). Grin

PF Flyers would be good actually. Bit smarter than Cons... I have chocolate brown ones, they'd go with your dress

Rollerblades are out then? Rats. Grin I agree about the flats for the evening - even the bride changed into fitflops for the dancing at the last wedding I went to. I wasn't so prepared so just kicked off my shoes and went barefoot

I was a barefoot bride by the time we signed the register! I stumbled up the aisle clutching onto my dad, stood doing the whole 'yes blah de blah, I do blah de blah' bit and then kicked my shoes off. I nearly lamped the photographer when she asked me to put them back on for the pics.

Good luck Green - I love a good wedding!

My fake converse are chocolate brown too......... must have a chat with sil.....

I'm walking around in my only heels (1 inch) today to practice and so far I've made the dcs tidy the living room, made them cart plates to and from the dishwasher and sent ds upstairs with the clean washing while I've stacked the dishwasher and sat down and MNed. Surprisingly, I haven't fallen over once but my dcs are knackered Grin

I'm shit in heels too. The only ones I've had any success with are ones which attach very firmly to my feet, i.e have a strap round the front of the ankle, or a "mary jane" style. Still wouldn't go above 1.5 inches. Would personally go with the wedge thing. There are lots of nice ones about at the moment. I have a camper pair with wedges that sort of get narrower in the middle so are not that clumpy looking. I tried these on recently and they were really comfy, just out of my price range for now Sad.

QueeferSutherland · 14/06/2011 21:40

Fugly, but walkable in.

I was a barefoot bride too. God knows why I chose dainty shoes.

You need a strap & chunky/wedge heel if you are a heel novice. I's not like I haven't tried, I think I'm just not buil for killer heels. (None of us are, really.)

Gilbo needs sensible advice, not links to honeys like these. Grin

Gilbo my love, have you looked into Zara at all (although admittedly their shoes make my feet bleed just walking into the shop but.........)

Gold, really?

I know. I love my sil, she's a wonderful lovely person but I think a little bit of bridezillaness is leaking into her veins. That, and the thought of being the big fat bridesmaid who stacked it in her heels is putting me off this whole bridesmaid thing.
