omg omg am flapping.

Dress code is smart, hat optional but apparently most do. We are in an executive hospitality box.

I have a dress fromcoast that i wore to my graduation ball and a wedding. Its bandeau top, full skirt, knee length, bordered in black with yellow, lime and turquoise pattern.

So i need a fascinator preferably because i look like a twat in hats. Probably in back. Have black shoes and bag.

Please please help me find omething, ive got less than a week.

(oh and i woud be open to suggestions of another dress if not ££££

what fascinator are you thinking about? bow, flower, saucer style? and what is your price range?

mosschops30 Wed 08-Jun-11 14:50:06

I dont know, what would be apprpriate for ascot!

I have chin length straight blonde hair.

I dont evn know where to start, have never been to an event like this before

Daenerys Wed 08-Jun-11 14:56:39

i knnow it's not black but the site did say "perfect for races" !

turquoise

and they have a 15% off code.

if you don't like that one

this is great value for money

mosschops30 Wed 08-Jun-11 15:06:10

Do you think my style of dress will be ok for the races? Its like this in style but not colour.

Will have a look at the links now

mosschops30 Wed 08-Jun-11 15:08:23

I dont like the m&s one but the other one is lovely. Just wondering if it would match the turquoise in my dress

Presuming you're not in the Royal Enclosure then this is the Grandstand dress code:

Grandstand Admission Dress Code
Ladies with a Grandstand Admission ticket are required to dress in a manner appropriate to a smart occasion. Many wear hats although this is not compulsory. Gentlemen in the Grandstand Admission area must wear a shirt and tie, preferably with a suit or jacket. Sports attire, jeans and shorts are strictly forbidden.

This is the Royal Enclosure one!

Royal Enclosure Dress Code
Her Majesty’s Representative wishes to point out that only formal day dress with a hat or substantial fascinator will be acceptable. Off the shoulder, halter neck, spaghetti straps and dresses with a strap of less than one inch and miniskirts are considered unsuitable. Midriffs must be covered and trouser suits must be full length and of matching material and colour.

i think something like that ( in the print you mentioned ) would look very nice. if you look at the ascot pictures, most ladies wear prom-style dresses or (depending on age) matching 2 piece suits ( Mother of bride - jacques vert style)

mosschops30 Wed 08-Jun-11 15:14:44

Its in a box so i dont know, weve just been told smart, suit for dh and dress for me hat optionsl.
Do they have hospitality boxes in both the grandstand and the royal enclosure? I very much doubt its the royal one, its a construction business ticket

BovrilonToast Wed 08-Jun-11 15:15:59

What about one of these?

hairband

mosschops30 Wed 08-Jun-11 15:19:11

I dont like that, sorry, i prefer the fascinators

mosschops30 Wed 08-Jun-11 15:22:36

is this nice?

Is it too twee to wear all black accessories?

BovrilonToast Wed 08-Jun-11 15:30:27

You'll probably be in the Grandstand then. I work about 2 miles from Ascot, it's an amazing event, you'll have a great time!

BovrilonToast Wed 08-Jun-11 15:31:50

I bought one from here for my DB wedding - there's a huge selection!

fascinators

I went last year (not in Royal enclosure) and to be honest with you there was a whole range of what people wore, some amazing hats but a lot of people without a hat and there were even people in maxi dresses and flat shoes.

I think your dress will be fine, it can be quite breezy so I would take something in case you get chilly and make sure your shoes are comfy as it is quite a walk from the train station, I had a pair of flip flops in my hand bag which I am ashamed to say I had to put on at the end of the day to walk back to the train station!

mosschops30 Wed 08-Jun-11 20:21:31

Great thanks for that. Nice to know. Think i will stick with my dress then and buy a fascinator.
Any opinions on the one i linked to?

We will be taxi from the hotel so not too much walking hopefully

I just wanted to say thanks for this thread as I am having a similar panic! Hope you have a lovely time. I intend to get wrecked and bet my life savings on the nags. Possibly.

Daenerys Wed 08-Jun-11 20:39:32

Was in town today and i thought about you when i went into accessorize - they had sooo many gorgeous fascinators!

i tried a few on - i had to - they looked great :D

mosschops30 Thu 09-Jun-11 21:05:04

Thank you smile. I will have a look in there too, they have a lovely turquoise one that might match my dress

coffeenut Fri 10-Jun-11 01:30:34

Although I like it, I personally wouldn't wear that dress to the races as it's too bridesmaid-esque. I prefer shift style day dresses. But ppl wear anything and everything so you will be fine. I like the fascinator you linked to.

mosschops30 Fri 10-Jun-11 09:34:59

Its not that dress, just a similar style. I have a lovely shift dress that would be suitable but its too big for me at the moment, dont think i have time to have it altered

coffeenut Fri 10-Jun-11 10:28:47

It's nice when things are too big for you though even if it's inconvenient smile

The dress will look great I'm sure. Maybe I'd put a cropped black jacket over it though, with black fascinator. But I like conservative at the races smile
