Hi. Can you help me in finding a new dress? I am 47, 5ft 7 and a size 12/14. Bit pear shaped and wide of arm, sounds yeuch! So, I need sleeves to the elbow and length below the knee. This is where I find the problem, loads of fab dresses about, (don't mind wearing a cardigan) but everything is so bloody short. Price wise, um, under £50 if possible. Thanks very much in advance.
Oh and I am 48, just remembered!

What is the dress for? A wedding, bbq, night out?

Hobbs has some in their outlet store. I can't link to them but have a look at the Castella dress (grey or purple).

Dress would just be for work, quite informal (on my own in an office) or going to the pub...yay!
Thanks for the links, although I think they might be a bit too dressy for me. And they seem a bit old, are you trying to tell me something?? Do I need to grow up?? Do appreciate the input though!

yy, mine too formal work (apart from teh stripy one). 3/4 sleeves are not easy to find ATM, I need em for some scarring on my arms and tend to buy when I see them.

I love the grey one, would definitely wear it for a do (am 33 and far from frumpy).

Meant to say, I would need it shortening a bit and foxing up with accessories, but still fab...

I think when you are looking at dresses with 3/4 sleeves that come below the knee then they will look a bit dressy/old. Something a bit shorter would look a bit younger!

Quite so dexter.

Thanks again. Guess you have hit the nail on the head Dexter. I cannot go shorter unless I get lipo first or eek! exercise! and that ain't gonna happen. I like the Boden ones, altho' the prints are a bit IN YOUR FACE sometimes, but they are too pricey. Wait for the sales maybe?

this / this isn't too aging. I think.

horizontal stripes will not make you look bigger than you are, it's a total fallacy, they're actually very slimming. Vertical stripes OTOH...

NieuweBuurvrouw - those dresses are really short - more like tunic length, as is the silk one TracyK!

Very sweet Tracy. There's plenty from £75 up...

I like this one. Over budget though, It's £80.

So of course I like the FC one best. Maybe I should spend less on bits and pieces (TK Maxx, charity shops, etc) and buy decent classy things. I seem to have a mental block about spending a certain amount on one thing, though if I add up what I have spent on 'stuff' it probably comes to a similar amount IYKWIM.

It is rather lovely. I'm tempted to try it on myself.

Some nice ones at The White Company

here

I've got the Jersey waist Twist Dress in grey but for some reason it's saying 'Product Not Found' when I try clicking on it.

The Phase Eight one says 'above the knee' in its description. I think it would be a lovely length.
