Can anyone tell me about the oil cleansing method?

I'm trying this but have read different things about ratios of oil and how many times a week to cleanse. Confused

If you use this method, how often do you do it? Is every couple of days too often?

Also, should you use the oil as a moisturiser after cleansing?

I've been using about 30% castor oil.

If you want to use an oil based cleanser then I would get something specific, not mix up my own - alternatively, I can recommend Coconut oil. I write a b log and review beauty products, I only use natural products, see if there are any suggestions that may work for you?

Just be careful though as Coconut oil is comedogenic Wink

I'm doing this at the moment Phish. I use jojoba oil and castor oil at approx 15% castor to 85% jojoba but I think I should be using more castor oil. Both oils are organic & cold pressed (urm... I think. Certainly the jojoba oil is). I use jojoba as I read that it is the closest to skin oil.

My blackheads have certainly decreased in size. My skin does look better. It isn't perfect but I'm a bit lazy and sometimes forget to do it at night Blush. When I do it twice a day I see a huge difference. Yes I know some blogs say just in the evening but I feel I need it in the morning too.

I use a serum after and then I use a dot of Dermalogica Active Moist. Once that runs out I'll just use a tinted moisturiser. I do find I need to use a lipbalm morning and night.

Be careful with the castor oil.....it's supposed to promote hair growth.

Don't want a fice o'clock shadow, do you? Grin

Yikes, didn't realise that about the hair growth, mind you, I guess a nice beard might cover my spots Grin

Will have a look at your link MissFoodie -thanks.

ComradeJing I might try doing it every night for now and see how it goes. Jojoba oil sounds good as well. I've been using sunflower as I had some lurking in the cupboard Grin when that runs out I might try the jojoba.

I can never seem to find a moisturiser that doesn't make my skin feel greasy. I do have some of that boots serum lurking somewhere so will try using that afterwards.

Thanks for replies.

I've been using unrefined coconut oil on my face instead of moisturiser for about two months now and my skin is looking so much better. Also, twice a week I take a teaspoon of Sweet Almond Oil and add some salt. Then gently massage face (avoiding under eye area) with the mixture for about two minutes then wash off. Gives a lovely glow and supersoft skin.

Doesn't the coconut oil block up your pores? Or is it good for oily skin too?

It's amazing as a cleanser, removes waterproof mascara without stinging, maoisturises and can be used as a moisturiser, on the body, in the bath, etc

here are all the details, plus different brands:

my fave is Fushi because it smells nutty, the tiana rose is also fab - if you dont like the smell of coconut then pukka is practically unscented

MissFoodie I'm glad you mentioned the Tiana Rose Fresh Moisturiser as I was about to mention it myself. It is a lovely product and one of my favourites. I can get waterproof make up of with it, I can use it as after sun skin care. It is a multi purpose product and I recommend it to everyone. I heavily rely on that brand and they have not let me down at all.
