Do you like this dress? Can I wear it to a wedding?

Here. I'm 5'11" so it'll be a bit shorter on me than on the model. And I'm a pear-shaped size 16 so it'll be generally less attractive on me than on the model Sad

I like it, and think that you could wear it to a wedding Smile.

I see what you're getting at, but TBH it's pretty frumptasic on her...

They have many much nicer dresses. A lot of the Kaliko and the Hobbs ones (and a couple of the Phase Eight ones) look like they'd suit you, and have the vaguely retro thing going on.

Yes, and yes. I like the parrot print.

Print is fab. Cut of the dress is not.

Its nice. The print is vaguely reminicent of some of the Get Cutie prints.

I kind of agree knofje but I guess it depends what body type etc.

But if you are a pear shaped size 16 I would urge you to look at Get Cutie's website

The shapes are brilliant for pears, i.e they hide it because they flare out (most of them, steer clear of the pencil dress perhaps) and the long cap sleeve dress would probably be knee length on you. You can choose from many prints, all of that vintagey look.

Here is the website

Hours of fun...

I love the print.

Well, OK, I didn't put it clearly - the cut of the dress is fine in it's self, just not with that print.

There are too many small sections which bugger up the flow of the print, witness waistband and separate inter-nork triangle. Also wide panel / pleat (not sure which) at the front. That and the too high/too low V neck makes it totally frumpy, IMHO.

The print so fab, shame they did that to it.

I ordered that very dress in black (only because they'd run out of the white, which is even nicer.) I am only 5'2", plumpish, and an hourglass shape, and honestly it was absolutely lovely on. The only reason I sent it back was because I had ordered lots of other stuff and I really needed more practical everyday things rather than yet more posh pretty frocks. But it really was lovely, and flattering if you have a good waist. Grin

OMG. I've just looked at that Get Cutie link and the blog on the other link. died and gone to heaven. Getting credit card out now.

Right, I have ordered it. I'll assess the frump factor once I've tried it on.

The half sleeve dress is lovely Fellatio - though if you are 5 foot 2 you might get them to take it up a little, in case it hits you at mid calf, as its a generous knee length. Depends how long you like your dresses.

Thing is whilst they have some prints in stock in various sizes, you have to measure your under bust measurement, select a cup size and your waist measurement and they will make it up for you. If you asked nicely they'd probably adjust a length at this point as well.

I have to order a larger cup size as I am ample of boob, and did find that there was a little puff of material at each outer corner which looked a little weird but the lady at the shop told me step by step instructions of how to pin it whilst on, then take it off, and stitch it for a perfect custome bust fit. So if you do invest, don't be afraid to go for a generous cup size if you are largish of bust.

The beauty of it also is that you can get a made-to-measure but still have full returns policy rights. Some websites won't let you return something that is customised - and its written into distance selling regs too - but this website does.

Sorry for the hijack there OP. I think ordering it and assessing it on is very sensible!

tatty - I have a get cutie dress, I have the bird print short cap sleeve. Its gorgeous, although I did have to do a bit of altering, I'm 5'1 (size 6/8)and the length was perfectly on the knee. I altered boob area and the sticky out sleeves (even the A cup was too big!! Shock I would totally recommend them, as you say they seem to suit all shapes and sizes

Yay Clure and Madamme!

I have the half sleeve dress in Heros of the Universe and a long cap sleeve in the black with bright magenta flowers print.

I really love the Hola Chicka white and there was so little they used it for but now they have a new style and its in the options so I can imagine that will be my next purchase... Grin

It's cute. I like it.

Knofje, are you in fact joking when you say that this dress is frumpy, and then recommend Kaliko?

Report
Knofje · 28/05/2011 16:18

Lol, no Grin. I'm not in the UK so I've not come across them before. Have just had a quick look at their site and I'd say (IMHO) about 70% of the dresses were less frumpy than this one.

Think it's lovely ... love the print ... very unusual!
