Fillers - anyone had them?

I've had some botox and I'm now thinking of treating my saggy old mug to some fillers. Anyone any advice? If you've had it, what brand is best? I've looked at the internet and been quite impressed, but can't find anyone I know who admits to having it sone. Thanks in advance.

Yes. Bloody fabulous. Tons better value for money than Botox. They last ages and they give a more natural look. they fucking hurt though. Ask for humbing injections first.

Mine have all worn off.

PM me if you want- had Restylane. But you do need the advice of the person doing it- different products for different bits of your face.

I had a full consultation- I didn't mention budget or money- to see what they suggested.

She said all I needed was 1 ml of Resty. each cheek.

I had one ampule in total of Restylane last month for the first time. I've had Botox three times a year for the last four years, mainly in my forehead and around my eyes.

I had some Restylane injected into the white line that runs just above the pink part of your lip to plump it out a bit - I had been starting to develop the beginnings of "pucker" lines (shudder).

The rest of the ampule was injected into the "naso labial lines" (I think that's what they're called) that run from the outside of your nostrils to the corner of your lips.

I paid £375 and it was done by the Consultant Plastic Surgeon that does my Botox.

I am absolutely thrilled. The effect is subtle and natural, which was what I wanted. I'm going to have another one ampule put in (same places) after six months (so the changes are subtle and spaced out over time) and then just once a year to maintain it.

I'm so pleased I've done everything that I've done but would caution anyone considering it to see the best qualified and most experienced doctor you can find to treat you. There are all sorts of people doing this sort of stuff these days and I really dread to think what could happen in the wrong hands.

It's an expensive business but I would personally choose to make economies elsewhere and spend the money on this because it actually works.

You are right- it is very subtle. I was developing a line across the top of my cheeks which I was told was where the fat pad under the eye and the cheeks starts to pull about- so you end up with your cheeks literally sliding down your face.

I have to admit the procedure was painful- 4 deep injections each cheek and they used Perlane which is Restylane but with a bigger molecule.

If you have anything done,, the advice is to have it 3 weeks at least before any "event". My face was a bit puffy- not noticeable to anyone else- for about 2 weeks.

Can I ask cyrilsneer/cabbageroses, how you went about finding the person who did it? I think I'm a prime candidate for fillers as although I have a smooth forehead and not too wrinkly of eye, yet, I'm starting to notice lines on top lip (shudder indeed) and have been aware of nasio lines for sometime. I've been meaning to do something about it for a while. Thanks! Am in SW London ish area btw.

TBH I googled!

Lots on the web.
I went to Dr Tracy Mountford who is in Harley St and Bucks.

She has been doing it for 20 yrs.

They do a consultation first- you have to pay for it- and I was not under any pressure. I went away and thought on it for 3 weeks then booked myself in.

She is very into the natural look and won't over-do it- they would rather you had a little bit then came back if you want more.

Whatever you do, don't try and do it yourself. Seen some very nasty pics recently of a lady who bought the filler online and did it herself - you can see the lumps where it has set under her skin and she needs surgery to remove them, which she can't afford. She looks dreadful.

a) it hurts
b) you can't see what you are doing
c) you need to avoid things like tear ducts and veins!

She just bought the syringes on line - apparently she got some dodgy one that was a copy cat (and a very bad one) and injected them herself. I guess you can do it using a mirror? I think she had done her own botox beforehand as well so perhaps she was all right with sticking syringes in herself - I sure as hell couldn't do it though!

You can't really do it using a mirror. when I had mine done, she asked me to look straight ahead, whilst she injected from behind/the side. She also "spotted" the centres of my eyes to line up with the centre of my cheeks, and took a lot of time deciding where to inject.

You have to know exactly where to place the injection- I had 4 each cheek.

It is also quite painful- I was surprised.

After injecting, she massaged my cheeks in a certain direction to make the filler move around where it should be.

can't see how anyone would even think of DIY.

well, you can google the sites for diy dermal filler, cabbageroses - there's a big market for it. But obviously it's not ideal and can easily go wrong, probably because of the things you have said about how it's done.

I have rejoined Mumsnet just to post on this thread. I had Juvederm yesterday. I also had Botox for the first time two weeks ago. I initially had a consultation as I really, really wanted the Botox for my 11's between my eyebrows. Both of the people I saw immediately said that the Botox would be of limited value to me but what would really refresh me would be fillers in the apples of my cheeks and in my tear troughs - I have fairly noticeable bags under my eyes. However, I was set on the Botox so did that. At my follow-up they evened up the Botox (any decent place will do this for free as it is almost impossible to get it right first time apparently) and mentioned the fillers again. I had been pleased with the effect of the Botox so told them to just go for it. I had an injection of lidocaine local anesthetic waited ten minutes and was then injected with the filler. It was a strange but not painful feeling. By the afternoon as the anesthetic wore off my cheeks began to feel tender. This morning they feel a little better. My husband says I look really well rested - I cannot yet tell the difference as I can't look past the slight bruising under each eye. The practice I went to said that one in twenty patients experiences severe bruising. It is also worth noting that they are using the fillers "off label" in that they are not really approved or indicated for under eye use but are widely used - the surgery I went to does around ten a day for eyes. I really, really researched the place I ended up. I live in the USA too where it is much easier to ask people what they have had done and where. Hope this helps.

Castles : I am lucky that a (lovely, open) girl-friend recommended my Botox doctor to me initially and he does fillers too.

Could you try calling your local Spire hospital and asking to speak to the secretary of the Consultant Plastic Surgeon who does the biggest and busiest Botox clinic?

Ive just asked thison a new thread amd then found this. Ive had botox in my forehead and crows feet for a few years, but have noticed recently that the corner of nose to corner of mouth lines ar becoming deeper and one more than the other, it looks awful.
I am definately going to have fillers. Does anyone know which they use for that part of the face? Also does it last longer than botox, my botox tends to last about 4months. Does anyone else get the peaked eyebrow look from their botox?

mosschops30, I've heard restylane is a popular for that part of the face. The same part I'm planning to have done when I can gather up the courage. I also believe it lasts 6 months.

My consultant says that Juvederm lasts between six and nine months with six being a conservative estimate. It has now been a week and the bruises under my eyes have faded to yellow and are easily coverable by make-up. My bags have definitely gone. I still look like me - just a much less tired version. I am really, really pleased with the effect. My eyes look really awake if you know what I mean. My only advice (besides making sure you are in the hands of someone with lots of experience) is if you have an event coming up make sure you have the fillers a couple of weeks before hand so that any bruising and swelling can clear up.

I found the fillers very painful. I had one bruise for about 10 days on one cheek.
I second the advice not to do anything special for at least 2 weks after treatment.

I had minimal filling done- 1ml each side. it has given a tiny lift to each cheek ( neverhad good cheek bones) and filled in a line that was coming across the top of the cheek bone due to dropping.

I have been told it should last for a year. I am really pleased. No one has noticed , but i can tell- that's how it should be.

I agree i feel like tht about my botox, no one knows i have it but it makes a huge difference to me.

Hi there can anyone recommend a doctor re filler for tear trough area? I have been looking into this and 1 doctor said it would work for me using emerval whilst another said this would not work for me (using a different product though) and that I'd need a blepharoplasty as I have bags of fat under my eyes and loose skin above the eyes!

I've had Juvaderm at Tracy Mountford's Cosmetic Skin Clinic
I went there because they are conservative, but they have underfilled to the point that nobody, not even my husband has noticed any difference
They are now suggesting Sculptra - another £1, 500 at least. I am really disappointed that they didn't suggest this in the first place. They are supposed to be the expert and advise on what will make the most difference to you. Also, I am still waiting for my before photos which they did not show at follow up. Has anyone else had a bad experience with Tracy Mountford? Also what do people think of Sculptra? I'm happy to wait for the results of Sculptra but have read reviews on RealSelf etc where people complain about no results after several treamtments over many months - and it's expensive! Any insights much appreciated!
