Do people not have dressing tables any more?

I rather fancy a dressing table in my bedroom.

Table, stool, big mirror, make-up and jewelry, various precious bits of stick, some Lightning McQueen lego, quarter of a pink crayon, Barbie's spare FMP's...

Anyway. The first 3 furniture shops I have looked in don't have any such thing. All the bedroom displays have bed, wardrobe, chest of drawers and other bits and bobs, but no dressing table!

Are they obsolete?

This is not a thread asking where to get one; I shall just find a nice table and stool and mirror etc.

But... do YOU have a dressing table? Does ANYONE have a dressing table any more?

I have one. It was my grandmother's. Terribly old fashioned.

And every woman who comes to my house and spots it, oohs and aahs! Grin

I would love one. My parents have one in their room, a lovely little table with little drawers for your bits, a nice stool and a tilting mirror on a stand. I want one.

I have one in my room at my parent's, which is the room DH, DS and I sleep in when we stay there. I love it.

Sadly there isn't space for one in our bedroom in our house.

And that's my theory, that they don't build bedrooms big enough for dressing tables any longer and so people have stopped buying them.

I have a dressing table - a truly gorgeous French 18th century commode estampillée that is worth far more than I can afford to insure it for! With a marble top, and a much less valuable but still pretty Edwardian triptych mirror on top. I have a silver rose bowl and some pretty china pots to hold my make up.

I also have a cheval mirror to view myself in!

I have one
Its rather marvelous with hidden drawers and tilty mirror

I'd love to say it was a family heirloom but it came from a "I saw you coming shop"

Just bought one last month from a junk shop.

It didn't have a stool with it though - Am trying to persuade husband to try and make me one!

You can get beautiful mid-century ones quite often in junk shops. I have one. It's an arts and crafts dressing chest though - i have too much stuff to just have a table.

Google it and loads come up!

I would like one but two walls of our bedroom are filled up with wardrobes, the third is windows and the fourth is the bed. So I have to put my makeup on and dry my hair standing up in front of the wardrobe mirror. If you have a good place to put one I'd say go for it!

I'd love one but there is no room in the bedroom because of the stupid built in ward robes.

I had this same problem - looked everywhere and they were all tiny flimsy things. In the end my neighbours were selling one for £40 and that's how I got my lovely varnished one with four drawers AND a three-panel mirror. It's not an antique or anything but it's still very nice and I love using it.

I have an Edwardian one which someone in my old office gave me for free, because they were chucking it out. It's in storage right now until we move but I used to take my morning tea up and drink it while I did my hair and so on. I love them.

I'd love one! My mother has an antique one, a French one her father bought for her whilst on holiday with her mother and had shipped all the way back.

I have so many memories of her sitting at that table. We'd loll on their bed and watch her getting ready to go out in the 70s and 80s and she'd let us have sips of cold white wine or fizz and spray ourselves with Joy or Chanel.

She'd leave cigarette stubs circled with lipstick in a Baccarat ashtray she always had on it.

She always has flowers on it, even now!

I have - fabulous kidney-shaped one, bequeathed by a great-aunt, from 1930s, I think: Art Nouveau, walnut.

Love it!

I have one. It's hideous. It's white with little frilly pink curtains on it, like a skirt. My boyfriend brought it round out of the blue one day, he reckons his parents are slowly trying to shift him out of home to live with me Hmm He was very apologetic though and said I could get rid of it if I wanted.

i saw a lovely antique one on ebay, then realised it was for a dolls house.

i think they're hard to find, i was looking a while back.

just have a shelf now, but quite like it as you can get close to the mirror for preening and plucking etc

I don't because it wouldn't fit in my bedroom. But my chest of drawers is quite low and so the top of it is dressing table stylee with my jewelery tree, perfum and make up on.

I would like one but no room. I like to do hair/make up in natural light if possible so I end up kind of kneeling/standing by the window with stuff on the floor/bed!

poissonrouge are you me??? I've been trying unsucessfully to buy a dressing table for over a year, something wooden, with a knee hole, at least three drawers and a mirror either attached or matching the dressing table.

Am getting a bit sick of standing/ kneeling in front of our full length mirror in the hallway to dry my hair Sad.

I'd love a place to put my pretty things, makeup, hair dryer etc Grin.

I have a lovely white wooden one with 6 drawers. Spent ages looking for one to go with other furniture (light maple) and couldn't find anything so bought a pine one, had it sprayed white and changed the handles for funky ones.
I don't have a stool though, I sit on the edge of the bed. Love it!

All I've got is an extremely plain console table from ikea with a mirror propped on it......but if I ever win any money THIS will be coming my way.

So lovely and old fashioned and look at the quality...rosewood and leather trim...if onlySad

If anyone comes on this thread and says they've got one, I will cry.
