Well travelled MNers - please help translate US sizes!

A friend has offered me some clothes with the label size 5 JR M. What on earth would the nearest UK size be? Google is confused by the different letters and numbers...

I've never heard of a size 5... it's usually a 4 or 6 which would put you at a UK 6-8.

Unless it's 5yrs old Junior with a medium leg length?

That's all I can really imagine it being.

Hmm am an 8 but not sure I have a low hip:waist ratio....thanks very much. Might take them anyway and squeeze in
