My friend uses and recommends Eve Lom but not sure whether to splash out or not!

No its not worth it

Time Delay (Boots) do a waxy cleaser almost identical to Eve Lom (I've tried both) for about £6.50 for a massive glass jar

Oooh really, thanks for that Cyb!

Agree, Eve Lom is way overpriced for what it is. (It's the method that achieves the results, not the actual stuff)

I swear by Clarins, I have sensitive skin and it's the only product not to aggravate my skin. Just managed to get my whole cosmetic bag replenished for Christmas, never usually have to buy it.

Dermalogica

Simple face wash.

Neutrogena day moisturiser with active soy SPF15 (Superdrug, about £7.95) and Nivea or Roc (if I am feeling flush) under eye cream.

Hi McDreamy I used Eve Lom for a while and the cleanser is nice but so not worth the price. And the instructions are laughably pompous - what with the 'Use HOT water with the Eve Lom special cloth followed by COLD water'. Said cloths are cheap bits of cotton. You'd think Eve Lom were saving lives not taking off slap!!

Oh and the ingredients of this 'magical' cleanser: Ingredients: Paraffinum Liquididum (mineral oil), Cetearyl Alcohol, PEG-30 Lanolin, Bis-Diglyceryl Polyacyladipate-2, Theobroma Cacao (cocoa butter) Aluminum Stearate, Chamomila Recutita (chamomile oil), Eugenia Caryophyllus (clove oil), Eucalyptus Globulus (eucalyptus oil), Humulus Lupulus (hops oil), Isopropyl Myristate, Phenoxyethanol, p-Chloro-m-Cresol, Methylparaben, Butylparaben, Ethylparaben, Propylparaben.

Nothing special. I now use UltraBland by Lush at 9.99 a (handmade) pot. You use it in the same way as Eve Lom, ie rub it in and then use a washcloth wrung out in hot water. It lifts off your makeup and leaves your face feeling very soft, but not stripped or tight. And the ingredients in UltraBland as follows:

VEGETARIAN, Almond Oil (Prunus dulcis), Rose Water (Rosa damascena), Beeswax (Cera alba), Honey, Fresh Iris Extract (Iris florentina), Glycerine, Rose Absolute (Rosa damascena), Tincture of Benzoin (Styrax benzoin), Methylparaben, Propylparaben.

Clinique gentle cleanser in the morning, plus
sunblock in summer, or Oil of Olay factor 15 in winter. At night I use a bog standard night cream with a drop of almond oil in it. Twice a week a boots facial scrub that looks a bit porridgey.

Not quite 'skin' care but I love Laura Mercier's tinted moisturiser. It's very pricey at £32 but I've had one tube per year now because the pigment is so good, and it suits my very pale skin.

xx

I always think that if Eve Lom was called Deirdre Wainwright her range wouldn't have such cache

I use Dermalogica. It's pricey, but works really really well and lasts for ages.

Olay or Boots Protect & Perfect. Both fab and not stupid prices.

gregssausageroll · 11/01/2011 18:24

Liz Earle mixed with some Clarins.

I use Aveeno cream with a hot muslin cloth to remove make up, then oil of Olay serum followed by Aveeno as a moisturiser.

I actually swear by Eve Lom, has transformed my skin, tub lasts me ages, I do realise it's expensive but I feel people spend money on clothes and shoes they don't wear often but you wear your skin everyday.
Having said that I would be willing to try a cheaper alternative like Liz Earle or Boots Time Delay and would swap if they were as good...

Clarins pure melt gel is FAB too!

I use Elave cleanser or sunflower oil taken off with a hot flannel, then Aldi's Lacura Multi Intensive serum followed by a few drops of Trilogy rosehip oil.

Have just got Avon Revitalist day cream SPF 25 - yes punters, 25! - and it seems rather nice. Only £12.
Love Elemis tho not their prices! Recently ran out of their moisturiser but have still got loads of cleanser and toner. TBH tend to use a baby wipe to cleanse and tone, life is so short!

You all must try the oil cleansing method cheap and incredibly effective. Found it when trying to find a cheaper and more natural alternative to Eve Lom.

Big vote here too for the Clarins pure melt cleansing gel .

Also Simple cleansers and a cloth or flannel seem to do as well as Eve Lom etc. for me.

I like the Body Shop Vitamin E range too.

Body Shop Camomile Eye Make Up Remover is the only one I have ever used and I still think it is wonderful.

Report
daimbardiva · 11/01/2011 21:08

I am a big fan of the Body Shop too. I don't wear make-up often, but use the Camomile make-up remover when I do and it's great.

I use their Vit C facial scrub which I love, and the self-heating face peely thing from the same range. Also use the Vit C daily SPF 15 moisturiser and the night serum which smells lovely and orangey!

I use the Vit E day cream occaisionally, and very occasionally the sink-in moisture mask.

I have to say I don't use a cleanser regularly, and my skin doesn't seem to mind. In fact I think I have good skin, and on the rare occasions I have a facial the therapists seem to agree.

I am bit of a cosmetics addict and my bathroom is packed with creams, serums and lotions, including Estee Lauder serums, Chanel, Kenzo, Creme de la Mer etc.
But my latest discovery and absolute favourite is Decleor Aromessence Excellence Serum (it's oil really). Only thing I use now and it's amazing - incredibly moisturizing and nourishing, leaves a beautiful glow but does not leave your skin oily at all, quite the opposite (I have combination skin and it keeps the t-zone nice and mat). Expensive, but you only use a little drop at the time and totally worth it.

to remove make up - Clarisonic Plus www.clarisonic.com/shop/sonic-cleansing-systems.php.

Im a bit of a cosmetics and beauty product addict too ullainga :)

After much debating and trying almost everything on the market iv found the simplest method and products work wonders for me -

Johnsons gentle foaming wash - use with a face cloth to exfoliate and brighten skin.

Nivea DNAge eye cream

Boots Traditional Skin Care Vitamin E cream - it was recommended to me by a work colleague who turns 40 next month - she has wonderful skin and easily passes for late twenties!! She has used it for years for both day and night - its only £3.05 a tub which is an and it lasts ages and it really is the most amazing moisturiser!!! It leaves my skin looking so much smoother and healthier and it makes a brilliant make up base too!! Really cannot recommend it enough!!

I do the oil cleansing method a couple of times a week - but I don't fanny about with oil, I use the Waitrose baby bottom butter (which is just oil and other natural ingredients in solid form, a lot better than having a bottle of oil in your bathroom).

rest of the week I just wash my face with soap.

Use Kiehls abyssine moisturiser (which has SPF 50) but when I run out just any old cream plus a sunblock.

I have very nice skin.

I did fork out for Advance Night Repair some time ago, made no difference.

The best thing by far you can do for your skin is to wear SPF 30 at least every day.

Ooooh well Dermalogica cleanser and Clarins face cream (at the moment).
