Hi, can I have some opinions on engagement rings please?

About engagement rings, I get to choose because that was what I wanted. I'm deciding between these at the moment. Which ones do you think are prettiest and most engagement ring like? And least like costume jewellery!

Not part of the above, but i'm avoiding Diamonds as I prefer coloured gems, but if i wasn't i'd choose a marquise (diamond shaped!)diamond.
Out of curiosity, Do you prefer precious gems (diamonds, rubies, sapphires, emeralds) for engagement rings than less valuable gems? And how any of you would prefer a diamond?

I like the third and fourth ones.

I prefer a simple single diamond engagement ring, but out of the above I'd go for the last one, purely on elimination. Don't like rubies, think the band on the first one is too thin for the stone, and the other sapphire is too much like the Kate/Diana ring.

Wouldn't say no to the last one though!

Personally, much as I like a coloured gem surrounded by diamonds I'd not want to wear one ATM. I quite like them, but you risk appearing to be emulation Kate Middelton...

I am not that keen on any of them sorry.. they all look like costume jewellery.sorry.

the fourth one is the nicest of the 4 though

I have a diamond engagement ring, but an interesting design. i wear cocktail/dress rings on my right hand. have an enormous topaz i wear most days.

Love the square sapphire

I have a very plain engagement ring - diamond solitaire.

Would haved loved a sapphire or an emerald though (emeralds aren't as tough as some other stones though)

Without question, the last one. I think it is beautiful and although I have diamonds only I think sapphires are lovely and look less like costume jewellery than rubies. I wouldn't give Kate Middleton a second thought.

last one, though none are my kind of thing.

I like the last one. my engagement ring (that i have just managed to squeeze back on 2 months post baby) is a pink sapphire with a small diamond either side. solitaires just don't do it for me.

The sapphires are really really lovely.
(Stuff Kate Middleton/Diana.)

I'd go for number one, I have one similar to it and love it.

3 or 4 (both are lovely)

but there is the issue of the similarity with Kate Middleton you'll have to face!

I really like 4, but not keen on the others, especially the ruby.

Its got to be able to fit a wedding ring but 4 is the nicest - like 3 too,

3 or 4, but as someone has already said if it was 'the one' you'd know.

They all look a bit costumey -- I like the fourth one though. The square cut is unusual and attractive..

Too many little bitty diamonds make a ring look costumey imo. Plus too large a stone if not a diamond.

My own ring is diamond (baguettes plus solitaire)
I like garnet very plain but charming here and <a class="break-all" href="http://www.google.com/imgres?imgurl=applesofgold.com/jewelryblog/images/2009/02/3-stone-garnet-ring.jpg&imgrefurl=applesofgold.com/jewelryblog/tag/garnet-ring/&usg=__r1uV-uUZC9VCW_tutUtI5RZr5bQ=&h=239&w=300&sz=17&hl=en&start=99&zoom=1&tbnid=UjouQsp7Tj35PM:&tbnh=123&tbnw=147&prev=/images%3Fq%3Dgarnet%2Bengagement%2Brings%26um%3D1%26hl%3Den%26sa%3DG%26biw%3D1024%26bih%3D557%26tbs%3Disch:10%2C2394&um=1&itbs=1&iact=hc&vpx=122&vpy=275&dur=1640&hovh=191&hovw=240&tx=129&ty=95&ei=w2bxTMGyMoyXnAe22fjuCg&oei=MmTxTPmuJs-engeAuO33CQ&esq=53&page=7&ndsp=16&ved=1t:429,r:0,s:99&biw=1024&bih=557" rel="nofollow noindex" target="_blank">more traditional here. I love opal here and another here and pearls; modern clean style with a black pearl here, and another a little this one more trad looking. And here's a lovely topaz

I think the pearls look lovely with white gold or platinum.

ruby one for me.
i love the warmth of cognac diamonds

I like them all except the first one.

I would go for a precious stone rather than less valuable gems for an engagement ring.

In fact I will stick my neck out and say I would go for a diamond 100% of the time. A classic, that goes with everything. Coloured stones are more of a statement and can be difficult to wear with certain colours.

Last one, but do like the ruby as well. But I am a diamond and platinum girl, so maybe not the same tastes. IMO my ring is the most beautiful thing I have ever seen, and I doubt my opinion of it will ever change...which it might if it was more 'specific' like one of the links, if you see what I mean.
