Lo, I have found the PERFECT warm and stylish coat

Seriously. I know some of you have been looking for one.

Before I start it is from a US website, $14 US shipping to the UK - mine ordered on Thurs and arrived on Saturday.

It is this coat. It is stylish, slimming, very fitted, and frankly quite lovely. I was actually <<whispers>> almost hot in it today. It is totally waterproof. The insulated liner, in place, I reckon will be warm enough until about -10 (I am Canadian and I know my winter coats!). Without the liner it will be comfortable for much warmer temperatures so therefore is a very practical buy!

Loved it, til I saw the price. shock

Tis true that you get what you pay for, though. I could do with a toasty coat.

roary Mon 22-Nov-10 20:24:36

Yep, but it's NOT just a winter coat - I reckon it could be pretty much year round in this climate. And Eddie Bauer is a v high quality brand, will last years.

roary Mon 22-Nov-10 20:26:20

(is £124)

Great coat roary. Are you sure you're not going to get stung by customs charges in the next few weeks though?

roary Mon 22-Nov-10 20:44:36

Ahh, good question, Bloss - I was wondering about that. But in the past I've gotten customs charges at the point of delivery rather than later? But do they do it later too?

(it was an Xmas gift though so I don't mind paying a bit)

Customs duty becomes payable if the value of the goods is over £135.

roary Mon 22-Nov-10 21:00:28

Phew! Have snuck in under the wire grin

Love the coat. Think I need thisto go with it.

mippy Wed 24-Nov-10 17:30:28

Customs duty is payable if the value of goods is over £18, or £36 for gifts. Trust me, I have been stung enough times to learn this.

mippy Wed 24-Nov-10 17:32:19

here you go

mippy Wed 24-Nov-10 17:33:28

Looks like I was wrong on customs duty, but you will have to pay the VAT.

roary Thu 25-Nov-10 11:43:01

Hmmm. Coat here, no sign of anything about vat. I have had to do this in the past and it is at point of delivery. Maybe because sales tax paid at purchase? Or just lucky?

PercyPigPie Thu 25-Nov-10 11:47:23

So what did you pay in total Roary? Presumably you are pleased with it? It looks great.

DukesOfTripHazard Thu 25-Nov-10 11:52:14

Lovely, lovely coat.

roary Thu 25-Nov-10 13:34:18

It is superb. Had it on today with only a light jumper under and was toasty.

The only flaw is that the sleeves are long. Not a prob for me as I have long arms and usually sleeves are way too short but worth mentioning.
Seriously in terms of warmth and waterproofness and slim proportions it's a winner. Well up to today's cold and as I said I'd reckon good to -10 at least.
In terms of cost it was an early Xmas gift but all that was paid was the gbp price and 14 usd shipping. So it would have been about £137 all up.

hellsbelles Thu 25-Nov-10 13:49:19

roary - you've got me very tempted what do you advise on the sizing? I'm a size 10 (with biggish chest) - do you reckon that's a small or medium?

roary Thu 25-Nov-10 13:59:30

Hells I am 5'9 and a size 10, occasionally a 12 in the chest while breastfeeding iand I have the medium in a tall, which is longer through the body and the sleeves. I have to say I could maybe have gone for a small and it would have been even more fitted, but this way I can get a big jumper under if necessary. I will go stick it on again and assess for you.

hellsbelles Thu 25-Nov-10 14:11:23

thanks Roary - I'm about 5ft 8 and a bit! So similar to you! I will await your final verdict!

aquavit Thu 25-Nov-10 14:12:25

I love the red one. Am wavering, despite my normal steadfast devotion to my ancient waxed jacket in the face of all the fancy warm waterproof coats threads on here...

I'm 5'10 - do you think that the tall is a good idea, given how long the arms are?

roary Thu 25-Nov-10 14:18:15

Aquavit how long are your arms? I have yet to find a winter coat with long enough arms. The tall is recommended for 5'8 or taller so at 5'10 you might find it too short to have a regular.

OK, have just tried it on. It's an inch above the knee and goes to my knuckles in the arm. Hells I would not advise the small. I think you'd want the extra room for a jumper or a jacket underneath if you are going to work.

My mom (who got it for me) says the red is gorgeous in person, she went to check it out before ordering online; I have the chocolate.

hellsbelles Thu 25-Nov-10 14:20:26

Thanks Roary - now I just have to decide on the colour! Red or Black (bloss would not be happy with me getting a brown...I'm a winter doncha know wink)

aquavit Thu 25-Nov-10 14:25:24

My arms are like an orangutan's grin so tall it is

How is the fit in the shoulders/under the arms? That's normally where I find coats too tight.

roary Thu 25-Nov-10 14:54:25

It is fine on me there aquavit and I am broad shouldered.

aquavit Thu 25-Nov-10 15:40:16

thanks roary, that's very helpful

pointydog Thu 25-Nov-10 15:48:45

I dunno about perfect. It's very dull.
