Whats the equivalent for men?

i.e. the all time classic...?

Looking to buy a fragrance for my husband, dont know much about womens fragrances let alone womens!

Any advice would be much appreciated!

UML Sun 01-Aug-10 20:33:00

I meant let alone mens!

old spice wink

SixtyFootDoll Sun 01-Aug-10 20:42:50

Polo - Ralph Lauren?!

Jewelsandgems Sun 01-Aug-10 20:50:22

Allure for men by Chanel.

BelleDameSansMerci Sun 01-Aug-10 20:59:40

Givenchy Pour Homme imo... Although, for the life of me, I can't remember what it smells like.

Polo, however, smells of the 1980s grin

So many different replies - this is confusing confused

Meglet Sun 01-Aug-10 21:08:24

Allure for men is nice. I think there's a normal one and a 'sport' version.

SixtyFootDoll Sun 01-Aug-10 21:16:26

Thats why I like it Belle wink

BelleDameSansMerci Sun 01-Aug-10 21:23:28

Sixty grin

It reminds me of some very, erm, steamy times...

AlaskaNebraska Sun 01-Aug-10 21:25:03

BelleDameSansMerci Sun 01-Aug-10 21:27:56

I bought my "whateverthebloodyhellheis" a really nice Hermes one quite recently. Very helpfully, I can't remember what it was called grin

UML Sun 01-Aug-10 21:32:51

Thanks for all the suggestions! I guess this means I will have to go and do a whole lot of sniffing!!!

DorotheaPlenticlew Sun 01-Aug-10 23:14:12

No no no it is Dior, Eau Sauvage.

A tiny bit.

(Disclaimer: my DP doesn't wear anything and in fact I prefer men without, but I am confident that that is the "classic".)

wildfig Sun 01-Aug-10 23:31:26

Dior Eau Sauvage [nods]. It's a classic, and I can't imagine it not suiting someone.

But if you wanted a 'go to bed wearing nothing but...' Chanel No 5 equivalent and you have recently won the Lottery Creed Royal Water would be my smell of choice.

Sazisi Sun 01-Aug-10 23:32:03

For me it's probably Eternity for men ( I even bought it for myself once!)

Don't whatever you do buy Issey Miyake, I used to really like it until I read it was the calling card of a very prolific serial rapist who was a black cab driver <sorry for lowering the tome emoticon>

Sazisi Sun 01-Aug-10 23:34:00

tone blush

rainbowweaver Sun 01-Aug-10 23:38:45

<votes for Eau Sauvage too>

DH wearing it drives me bonkers grin

maktaitai Sun 01-Aug-10 23:43:42

I think Eau Sauvage too.

For something even more classic but less mainstream, what about Vetiver or Mouchoir de Monsieur?

Alouiseg Sun 01-Aug-10 23:59:46

Eau Sauvage or Aramis.

SixtyFootDoll Mon 02-Aug-10 08:59:33

Cool Water by Davidoff

ViveLaFrak Mon 02-Aug-10 09:14:58

Eau savage or Chanel Allure Homme Sport, which is nicer than the 'straight' version IMO.

racingheart Mon 02-Aug-10 15:28:53

Oh yes, definitely Eau Sauvage. That is the classic. Gorgeous and timeless.

Another classic lovely one is Quercus by Penhaligons but Eau Sauvage is the Chanel no 5.

Thanks again for all the suggestions!

Lots of fans of eau savage - this will be interesting smile
