failed my exams:((7 Posts)
just got my results back from uni, I failed everything, including a piece of coursework
I have told them about my extenuating circumstances but they don't sem to be bothered. They are gonna let me re-sit in ASugust, but the mark is capped at 40% so if I do pass it will lower my final grade for next year, and if I don't pass-well, they won't let me back in. How am i Supposed to revise when I have got so much crap goin on? Help!!!!!!!!!!
aww diane - am sorry to hear that. How many resits? What are you studying? sorry for many questions - cant remember speaking before. Have had friends in similar positions on my course in terms of resits. You can do it. Why wont they listen to your circumstances?
dianewalker, so sorry about this.
I was a dismal failure first time round at university, and they werent remotely interested in the fact that I had a massive candida infection, allergies to yeast and loads of other foods and depression. Even though I had a letter from an NHS specialist detailing all this.
However, all is NEVER lost in the UK! Even if the worst comes to the worst, you can credit what you have done against the Open University, and continue your degree with them. (And the Open University are very sympathetic to resits.)
Could your student union provide any advice, or student councelling service?
I also failed 1 exam and 4 pieces of coursework but I was expecting it...I don't think my uni mark you down to 40% but they do take some marks off but I just keep thinking that I have acheived so much and take solace in the fact that there are other students that don't have a baby, job and house to run and they are doing resits as well.
Good luck with resits
Sorry to hear about your situation. Your department should take extenuating circumstances into account (although that doesn't necessarily mean that you will automatically pass - if one of our students failed a core module, say, we might bear in mind the fact that maybe they'd missed a certain number of lectures through illness, but if we didn't feel that they'd cope with progressing to the next level then we'd still fail them... don't know if that makes sense). If your department is reluctant to consider your extenuating circumstances (I presume that you have sent them documentation, medical certificates, put stuff in writing... all that kind of thing) then you should contact the Student's Union. Ask to speak to the Welfare Officer and tell her/him what's going on. Sorry, I don't know what your circumstances are, but you should be able to get some sort of help. If you feel that you can't revise sufficiently to pass your resits in August, you could ask to suspend your course and come back and do the exams next summer instead of in August. However, this depends on your circumstances, of course, and you may not be able to take a year away from your studies.
Thanks all for support.
Spoke to member of staff at uni, I am thinking of re-taking the modules I failed, and therefore staying on an extra semester. Have to wait a week or so so I can speak to my tutor. I am taking criminological and forensic psychology, its not too bad really, but with personal issues it becomes extremely hard. Basicaly I split from my ex over a year ago, not that we were really together anyway. I found out he was selling drugs and told him to stay away from me and our daughter. From then on he has been harassing me, phone calls death threats, dead animals in the garden. Finally went to the police when I found heroin and cocaine hidden in the house (he had broken in and put them in the kitchen) He was arrested ant told to stay away. Been to solicitor, they won't do anything because they can't find out where he lives. So, I have been told all that I can do is phone the police hwenever he comes near.
I never thought I would end up in a situation like this. The stress is really taking it's toll especially with uni. Daughter is taking it in her stride-wish I could!
Oh my god! You have been through so much...I hope the Uni lets you do an extra semester.
Good luck and well done for keeping it together so far
