Well I have 3 questions for all parents of four year olds who care to reply...

And they are:

1. Is your 4 year old male or female?

2. Does your four year old have:
a) ONE best friend
b) several or more good friends
c) other

If you answered a) to question 2

3) Is your child's best friend the same or different to your child in terms of:
a) gender
b) race
c) interests

Very grateful to all who reply.

(btw- have changed name as will link to this thread in reference list of forthcoming essay, if enough peeps reply)

1 M
2 B

He's not 4 til the start of March though.

Surely it depends partly on how they socialise - DS goes to 2 different nurseries and a playgroup and also there are siblings of DS1s friends, children of my friends... He has friends here there and everywhere.

Male

2. Does your four year old have:
a) ONE best friend
b) several or more good friends
c) other
He has ONE best friend (who is a year older and a bit of a hero) and a gang of friends too who run round causing havoc together
If you answered a) to question 2

3) Is your child's best friend the same or different to your child in terms of:
a) gender
b) race
c) interests

His Best friend is the same gender, he's caucasian too (but DS is from mixed religious background), best friend is far more creative, outgoing but they tend to like the same things yes
Then again don't all little boys like knights / pirates / physical stuff and being silly

THANK YOU so much everyone- your answers are really helpful.

Will bump intermittently as the more replies the better.

you may have more luck if you stick this in chat or other subjects

Thanks twig. Good thought

1. Male
2. c - no particular friends. Some regular children he visits, but that's because I like the mums. He's just not the friend-making kind of boy as yet.

Thanks Bloss,

Bumping for the morning.

Thank you so much everyone. I've really enjoyed reading all your answers and thinking about how your four year olds fit with some of the theory I'm studying for this essay. I'm going to give it till 10pm then collate all the info on here, so if anyone else wants to add their four year old's profile before ten that would be great. I'm afraid some more bumping may occur before then!

1) Male - 4 y'day

2) b

he does have some SEN. and never been good at mixing with other children until recently. still progressing gradually.

sleepytinkerbell Wed 05-Jan-05 13:28:45

male with several friends (sadly) he chooses only boys as friends at school but is happy to have outside of school girl friends. All friends are mixed race and he has a preference for the more boisterous boys even tho he is a calmer quieter type himself.

My 4yr old = male

c) = other. There are a few children that he plays with in the playground but I'm not sure if they would count as being good friends IYSWIM.

Ds1 is autistic though so I don't know if that will affect your results.

Tetley Wed 05-Jan-05 13:42:04

1. Male
2. Up until now has been (a) - which was a girl, i.e. different gender, but same race & similar interests.

However, seems to be changing at nursery - my ds plays more with the other boys (a few of them rather than just one), and his previous best friend plays more with the other girls.
