hi awen - just noticed this. have you finished your essay? Not keen on reflection as i could go on and on. Which model are u using? i know every one uses it cos its fairly simple - but i do like Gibbs. i have just submitted my portfolio and we had to do 6 pieces of reflection using a minimum of 2 different models. ur doing mental health arnt u? have they a preferred model in MH?

perhaps catch up soon x

thanks for replying strugstu - am probably going to use gibbs as only 2000 and johns is so much more detailed that it will be diff to meet all leraning outcomes too. Was going ot do an incident when i was asked to use a hoist by a hca that i hadnt been shown how to use so i explained i couldnt till properly trained and she said i shouldnt be in ward areas and went off on one basically. Thought it might be good as looks at patient safety and staff safety - care planning (m&H assessments), policyies and proceedures, am sure there will be some nice guidance, also looks at role of the nurse and student nurse and accountablilty for practice. I need to look at the illness trajectory from prof and lay person perspective too - finding this one hard tho as not given lecture on it.

Yep am MH - you just submitted final portfolio? congrats got that to come next year. Start 2nd to last placement in 2 weeks. Childminer has just pulled out too! yikes.

that sound excellent- if i can offer some advice re reflection; at some point it is a good idea to use a model of relection that your not so familiar with, one of the students in our group had her portfolio referred as she only used Gibbs model in her reflections throughout. The argument being that using a different model of relection may allow you to explore different aspects of the situation.
Also- we were advised to look at one or two aspects of the situation- in your particular example, perhaps health and safety and accountability would be most appropriate. (The NMC website is good- gives u the most uptodate details re accountability and the code of conduct)
hope i'm not trying to teach grandmother to suck eggs!!!
i have just finished my specialist practice degree in public health. thats it now - never want to see another textbook again!!!

my dd hopes to start MH nursing in january.
