Help ! It's my step sons birthday party tomorrow, his mum has been a nightmare prior and now it's got worse. She demanded that my husband drive 2 hours to pick up his bday cake (which we paid for) and when he refused, due to it being in working hours - she told him he had ruined his son's birthday ..... and not to come !! Is this normal spiteful behaviour or do we have an idiot on our hands ??

Her reaction was ott. If he's at work then he can't just walk out and go and pick up the cake can he? Does she not understand the very simple fact that he could get sacked if he goes ahead with what she wants him to do? Confused

Sounds like you have an idiot on your hands OP Flowers
I'm in the same boat as you, can sympathise.

I think she's out of order. But if she's difficult then it's probably best not to do joint parties. Just give her a bit of cash and leave her to it, or offer to host it alternate years.

Then have a family celebration just with DSS if you feel you've missed out.

It depends on who ordered the cake to be from somewhere 2 hours away from the party!

She ordered the cake, arranged the party - demanded we contribute $$. Refused help of any description, until yesterday. When she needs the cake to be collected and Pokemon balloons to be found - this I discovered is near impossible ! Oh and also demanded that "the idiotic wife - that's me" didn't attend (that's on another thread / lol)

Sounds like your poor DH has two idiots on his hands OP. There is probably a back story to this, and we're only hearing a very small part of it.
