We have dsc normally one week on one week off. So, Sunday to Sunday alternate weeks.

However dsc mum is going on holiday abroad on Saturday so we are having them for two weeks from Saturday.

This works out great as Dp and I are taking them to Scotland for 5 days during half term. It's a 4 hour drive

Dsc mum has just informed that dsc have given up ipads for lent. She said it was their decision. Doubtful as they are 4, 6 and 8. I also have a 5 ye old dd who lives here ft.

Anyway, for the 4 hour journey we would normally allow them the ipads in the car and as we are away would probably benefit from taking ipads with us for the lull in activity whilst away.

WWYD about the lent situation? Dp and I don't do lent an dd certainly won't

Would we be wrong not to honour dsc mums wishes and allow ipads if they wish?

Residency is split 50/50. The dsc have all necessary belongings at both homes and love of two families.

Lent exemption for the journey and maybe holiday. They can give up sprouts or chocolate instead, or do their extra lenten days when they are with their mother.

Are you religious? Is their DM, particularly?

We are not religious and neither is their mother

I'd let them have the ipads whenever they wanted them. Not fair of her to impose a religious belief ( I dont think it came from the kids either), then go on holiday and leave you to implement it. Bugger that!

As kids going on holiday we brought paper, felt tips, books and barbies with lots of outfits and a hairbrush.

There's no obligation to fast/give up whatever on the Sundays in lent. Lent would last for 46 days if you did, instead of the 40.

It is very odd.

In fact even odder is the fact that DP has just met them at swimming lessons and youngest had his ipad!

Dp questioned and was told they start tomorrow - didn't lent start yesterday?

Ok. That's our decision made. They can have their ipads

She can do that in her house, what you do in yours is up to you. As long as dad is ok with it (and seeming as they are not religious I can't see the problem).

Plus, I was brought up religiously (Christian) but was never expected to observe lent as a young child. Not while at primary school.

not essentia, but make life a hell of a lot easier on a 4 hour car journey prof and they can still play games when not on the pad

The ipads are an addition to a long car journey and our experience of this journey is that a little while on the ipad to break it up between everything else we have for entertainment suits our family.

Maybe. But those of us with teenagers who managed long car journeys perfectly well find the current reliance on them to entertain small children ridiculous.

We didn't go out and buy ipads all at the same time.
Eldest got his at Christmas.
6 year old for his birthday - and only because I got it free with my home learning course and money was tight at the time for a main gift.
Youngest doesn't have one here. He does however at his mother's.
DD does not have one at all.

DVD players and iPads save me from the tedium of I Spy and the alphabet game. I wouldn't give them up for the world!

I agree, and I say that as someone who has created 3 children unable to entertain themselves without technology.
