Step-parenting

RL support?

Does anyone know of any meet up/support groups etc in real life for SMs? I tried Googling but can only find traditional mother & baby groups or stuff in the USA.

Would be nice to escape for a few hours whilst the DSCs are here with someone else who understands how tough this step-parenting lark is!

No. Not at all. I am the only person I know in this situation. Luckily I have some great friends who listened to and supported me through single parenthood and are just as willing to listen to the issues related to blended familiness (or are just too polite to tell me to shut up!)

I think it would be great to meet people in the same position but I think the problem is that everyone's situation is so different. Just look at this board, there are those who are step parents with their own kids, those who are step parents and have their own kids either with their current dp or with their ex, whole ranges of ages and numbers of kids, those who have dsc all the time, those who have them every other weekend.....

But it would be nice to meet someone out there in real life with a similar situation.

I've been thinking about putting up a post like this for ages! I'd love to meet up!! Brew Cake

I'm SM with DP who has one DSD (9.5yrs) no DCs of my own. SO maybe a little more able to travel easily.

Where is everyone?! Smile

Although it may be difficult to meet in person I have found that this SP board is really helpful, if nothing else to know Im not alone in some of the challenges of walking on eggshells, knowing where boundaries are, biting your tongue when you really want to let rip about some of the frustrations, manipulations, imbalance, lack of control etc etc.

All in all, though, there are lots of upsides to SPing!

Is there an event / exhibition type thing coming up that people might consider going to anyway - and those who can make it could catch up there?

I'm thinking stuff like Good Food Show / Homes & Gardens / how to make DP / DSC disappear type of thing?

Shame we are all so far away (I'm on the Wirral). I did try the Mumsnet local pages but kept getting hit by all the tumbleweed blowing about Grin

lostlou am liking the idea of a general meet up, am racking my brains to think of an event though...

So which of you knocked off the gin lorry and the rest of us will come round? (Disclaimer: challenging weekend with ds and dss, no gin in house which is a real pity)

Would anyone be interested in the BBC Good Food Show?! Ok it's a long way off (June) in Birmingham.

In the meantime let's keep trying for some local meet-ups :-)
