DSS made me cry

Just wanted to share...

My DSS has an old train set which is his favourite toy. We've been trying for ages to buy more bits for it but couldn't find any as it's no longer sold. Last week I finally managed to find someone selling a big bag of pieces (second hand).

We gave it to DSS yesterday and he was over the moon, his eyes lit up and he was so excited. He took it to his room to play. I went up and helped him clear space for all the new bits and he turned to me and said "thank you, you're the best mummy ever".

I know DSC calling you mum is considered awful here on MN but it really got me and made me blub- I had to walk out the room Smile

He's 4, very articulate and bright for his age. He said it with a little cheeky grin as he knows he's not supposed to. He knows I'm not his mummy, and that his mummy is his mummy. When he started to talk he used to call me "mummy first name" but his mum hated it (understandably) so she punished him each time until he stopped. He just calls me by my first name now.

It's hard work being a mum and a stepmum, especially as we have so many young children in our house and I have a 7 week old too. I think most step mums will agree they often feel they can never do right however hard they try and often work hard for the family but feel really unappreciated. But this one sentence from DSS made me realise I am important to him and it made my day! Love him!

Grin He's only 4 so he's got plenty of time to grow up and scream "you're not my mum!" at me. He's my little munchkin right now though x

Thats really nice, and when 'that' day comes when he screams at you, at least you can think back to how you felt and what he said as an innocent youngster and know he doesn't really mean it xx
