Well buying new golf clubs isn't a problem at all, you can choose for this any sporting goods store or pro shop, there are also many good online stores too. But keep in mind that building the new set totally from scratch can be really expensive and to tell the truth doesn't make any sense in your case at all.
There are many types of golf clubs with their own pros and cons but they really matter only in case of experienced players who can feel that differences and use them wisely for enhancing their game. And while you're just learning, you can use any type of clubs which can be really cheap or second-handed, for example using the used sets is a popular practice among many golf players and is often recommended by the game pros.
In such case you'll save really much money not only for the learning period but also in case if you won't continue to play this game later (and this thing often happens with many newbies!).
So your beginner set should consist from only a driver, a putter, and several irons/woods or wedges golfclubguru.net/top-5-best-wedges-nowadays/ , that's all. Also make a test drive before making the final decision about every item, for example your height is of main cryteria for making the choice www.golf-monthly.co.uk/features/the-game/what-length-golf-clubs-use-114510 .

I would buy a second hand set to start with, they don't have to be expensive, anything will do to start with. Could you borrow some off a friend? at this stage you have no idea if you are going to keep playing.

This is how I would begin;
Buy a cheap second hand set.
Go to the driving range, a lot, watch other people.
Find a pitch and putt course to practice on.
Get yourself some lessons.
Do not attempt to play at a "proper" golf course until you can consistently get the ball airborne and relatively straight.

This is what I did, within 3 years of first picking up a golf club, I had a handicap of 11. We love golf in our house, we all play. It's a sport that you can continue to play for years, and a great way to get some fresh air and exercise. Good luck.
