No one seems to have done one this season yet. Came on to have a whinge! Tagging everyone from 2016 plus EauRouge who seems to have either flounced or nc-ed.

Hi there Alpaca
Yay to Valleri for first ever win! Well done, mate.
Not sure what is going on with LH? Though appears something wrong with the car this race.
Great to have some real racing going on, (but really don't want another Vettel WDC).
Feel sorry for Alonso, he needs to be in a decent car or retire.

Oh and the whinge? DP and I went out last night, as I expected the poor little flower wasn't feeling too good, so I set the GP to record and carefully avoided all media sources from 1 p.m. He finally lurched out of his pit about half past two, blundered around with coffee, fiddled with remote control, I reminded him to avoid news channels and channel four, he said yeah yeah, I went to garden, came back in to find room empty, TV on Channel 4 on full volume, as xxxx was sailing round waving his arm in salutation for his victory lap. Note how I have redacted the name in case anyone else was looking forward to watching it later and would prefer to avoid spoilers!

Although FadedRed has already bogged it up while I was typing that epic... Grin!

Still haven't watched race, am fighting the urge to shout VALTERI in DP's hungover ear.

Oops. Wasn't thinking there, Blush.
Will MNHQ add "maybe be spoilers" to the title if I reported? Or should I ask for my post to be deleted?

I'm here! Well chuffed for Bottas today!

Yes Dancemom, definitely driver of the day, young Vallteri.
Wonder if Massa will get a thump from SV for the little strategic hold up. I was GrinGrin

Cheers @FadedRed.

PooFace is now watching sodding football, still making me wait. Am considering starting an AIBU on whether this is grounds for divorce, murder, or simple withdrawal of all sexual favours until after Barcelona GP. I'm trying to load it on this PC from Channel Four website but it's buffering...

Hi Dancemom! I'm delighted for Bottas but I just want to watch how he did it and what happened to the Ferraris and well, everything!

Vettel put him under pressure towards the end but he didn't falter - awesome drive!

Oh think there will definitely be words between Massa and Vettel tonight ....

Feel for Alonso, how to go from being a World Champion to having the worst record this season ....

FadedRed · 30/04/2017 17:13

There was a bit of talk about Alonso being offered the second Mercedes, as Valteri was on a one year contract, and FA's contract ending this season, but unlikely now that VB is looking so good?
I remember when MacLaren and Williams were the ones to beat, funny how is turns around.

Still haven't managed to actually watch this race but Alonso I am becoming more and more convinced may be the best driver on the track this season, and most of the last one too. He's consistently getting far more out of crap distinctly average cars than any other driver.

He's also so much more chilled out and enjoying himself than he was back when he was racing for teams that had a realistic chance of winning the championship. He's moved onto my list of 'people I would love to find myself sat next to at dinner'!

Also very happy for Valtteri. DH and I cheered so loudly the baby was terrified!

Overall it was a boring race.

It's great to have more competition but I really hope Vettel doesn't win. I'd like another LH triumph (massive fan) but mostly just hope for a great year.

Hi @GrouchyKiwi.

Finally watched race in early hours. It was rather boring wasn't it? Sochi isn't really one of the more overtaking tracks. At least the next race is definitely one of the good ones.

DP and I mulled over going to Barcelona GP again this year as last year was so brilliant, but we've decided either Spa or Monza - or possibly even both.

He is mostly forgiven btw. Heroically, he deliberately found out the name of the race winner himself before watching it so that I wouldn't feel left out!

I'm just so glad that there is now real competition at the front of the grid. It does get very boring when the same team wins again and again, no matter how much one likes the team or the drivers.

Has there been any comeback about Massa's distinctly unenthusiastic move to let Vettel lap him?

Oh seems I'm on my own here. Will come back after the C4 highlights show this evening then.
Will Monte Carlo echo to the sound of bawling four year olds?

66/66 Well done mate. He owes a lot of that to his team mate and the strategicians though.

Interesting season this. Can't say I'm happy about Seb doing well, though it's good there's proper competition.

Monaco was mostly boring, apart from poor Wehrlein's weird accident with Button. Lewis did well to claw back some points on his bad qualifying session. Kimi doesn't seem to have it anymore, and I'm worried that Bottas doesn't either.

Report
dancemom · 28/05/2017 15:26

Thought it strange Kimi didn't pit during SC if tyres were the reason he fell so far behind Vettel?

Report
BlueKarou · 28/05/2017 15:29

It is good to have a mix up, but I do tend to cheer for Hamilton, so not a great weekend for me. As long as he's on the podium I like a fair fight. That said, I don't much rate Monaco as a good race to watch, so only really caught the end of today's coverage.

Is the Indy 500 on any UK channels? Would be nice to see how Fernando's doing/done.

Report
FadedRed · 28/05/2017 15:35

Monaco was never one of my favourites. I can understand why it's such a glitzy weekend, but it's only exciting when it rains IMO.
Not a bit surprised by Kimi coming second, that was always going to happen, no way they have let him win unless Vettel failed to finish!
Another bad weekend for LH, is he losing his mojo?
I imagine Jenson wished he hadn't bothered coming back, hope Alonso had a good result in USA.

LivLemler · 28/05/2017 21:35

Gutted for Alonso. Can't believe he had an engine failure, so bloody typical.

Oh that's a shame. Not a good weekend for either JB or FA. I wonder if Jenson did pee on his seat, as he said he would?

BlueKarou · 28/05/2017 23:18

Poor Alonso, that's exactly what he didn't need.

My what a race today in Baku. CRAZY.

Can't believe that Vettel got away with such a minor penalty for deliberately driving into a competitor. Unreal.

Great stuff from Bottas (my driver of the day), Stroll and Ricciardo. And hooray for Alonso getting points for McLaren!
