Having took a tumble a week ago in a particularly feisty bit of body boarding I am now deaf in one ear. However I am home now and have olive oil a pipette ans a bottle. Let battle commerce!

Fabulous. I had a badly blocked ear the other week and paid £12 for a camerascope widget from amazon which you plug into your phone and then poke the end down your ear and then you can see the inside of your ear and all the wax on your phone.

Sadly it was quite blurry and I couldn’t do the camera and syringe my ear out at the same time so abandoned the camera in favour of the 50ml syringe. Used it at the end to check all the wax was gone and I think it was, didn’t appear to be dark brown unfocused, blurry bits, was all a skin colour blur!

Not a good idea 🙄 once you syringe your ears, they'll need doing again and again.

The wax in your ears protects them and helps them stay waterproof according to the ENT specialist my dd saw last month

A bit of wax is fine, having a massive blockage which makes you feel deaf and dizzy isn’t.

My gp surgery syringed until recently, nurse said I have excessively waxy ears and very little ear canals.

How are you getting the wax onto the paper? Mine gets squirted out down the drain.

Syringing is meant to be bad for your ears, can perforate your ear drum or something which is the reason GP’s Surgeries give for not doing it anymore.

I syringe my own ears with a bulb syringe thing I bought on amazon a few years ago. Olive oil for at least 5 days and then I go for it.

Last time I was in such torment not being able to hear, (I work with older people so it is a bit tricky) I tried after a couple of days of olive oil and ended up with awful earache. I think I just pushed the wax further down the ear canal. I had a last ditch attempt before trudging to the gp and it was like magic, huge plug of earwax out and no more pain.

I hear microsuctioning is good but I work long hours and I have the syringer right here.....

I just wiped it on the paper. My ear is feeling a lot better. I'M not using volumes of oil just enough to get wax out and simply using a pipette to create a small suction outside

Ah, we oil then use syring for copious amounts of water. Might try your method... but we get out pieces like rubber pencil ends!

Uh? How are you doing it? How are you creating the suction. Is that pulling the wax out?

Some time ago, when my ears were blocked with wax and dead skin cells,(how I managed to get eczema inside my ears I shall never know), my GP referred me to the local hospital for an "ear toilet" - basically, a tiny vacuum pipe after softening drops. It was a curious sensation, with odd, vile squelching sounds as the detritus was gently drawn out, but the end result was miraculous, if a little weird as my ears readjusted (I could hear the comb going through my hair when I combed it, everything was so loud)...... worth it if you have the time free to arrange it.

My ear is a lot better. I was a bit naughty at work in that I fliltched a 1 ml syringe and had a go in the loos. Boy it was worth it - I got a coil of the stuff half full!
I went swimming after work and gave it a hoover - some more came out. I think I will use wax earplugs for swimming for the forseeable future.
