Had microsuction of ear wax today.

I had been using olive oil, but there was a hard lump of wax blocking the ear canal, which was stopping the oil from being able to get further in to soften the rest of the wax.

I took a photo of what came out, which I can post if anyone is interested.

You need to ask?!!! Waiting in sporny anticipation.......

PhilODox · 23/02/2018 14:21

Could you tell me how long it takes per ear, please? Do they do both ears the same day? Is it v expensive?
Did you have tinnitus, and if you did, is it now gone???
Am thinking about doing this...

TheSecondOfHerName · 23/02/2018 14:24

It took about 10 mins per ear.

She did both ears in the same appointment.

I don't have tinnitus.

It cost £35 per ear. My GP was happy to refer me for NHS microsuction but that was a 2 month wait and an hour away.

It was quite loud.

There was a brief time in each ear where it was uncomfortable to the point of being painful, but that bit lasted for less than 30 seconds.

The larger piece is about 1cm long.

GrumpySausage · 23/02/2018 22:25

Ooh it is my dream to have my ears suctioned.

Where did you get them done OP?

QueenLaBeefah · 23/02/2018 22:28

Very tempted by this procedure.
Thanks for the photo.

TheSecondOfHerName · 23/02/2018 22:29

I had it done at Specsavers; not every branch offers this service so check with them. I'm happy with the service I received and would recommend them.

Just out of interest have you had your ears syringed?
What’s the difference except ones water and the other suction?
Is suctioning better?
Only ask as I have regular ear blockages and always use nurse at my GP’s surgery - free and appointment ms within a couple of days.

TheSecondOfHerName · 23/02/2018 22:35

There's a Youtube channel run by Audiology Associates UK which features the most satisfying videos of microsuction.

Has your hearing improved?

DioneTheDiabolist · 23/02/2018 22:38

Thanks OP. Thanks

TheSecondOfHerName · 23/02/2018 22:39

Lulu my GP advised against irrigation as I've recently recovered from an ear infection.

Galaxy yes, hearing is improved and the crackles & pops have gone.
