mouth ulcers are usually white

Comedyusername Fri 12-May-17 23:27:20

Is it a blister? Did you eat or drink something very hot?

If it's an ulcer Anbesol normally numbs the pain for me

dementedpixie Fri 12-May-17 23:29:15

Could you be sensitive to an ingredient in your toothpaste?

endofthelinefinally Fri 12-May-17 23:30:55

You need to show that to your gp or dentist asap.

zen1 Fri 12-May-17 23:34:12

If you've had it longer than two weeks and it's not getting any better, you need to see your dentist.

badgersnotincluded Fri 12-May-17 23:43:00

Please go see a doctor as soon as you can.

B19M Fri 12-May-17 23:51:32

Make an appointment ASAP with your dentist; that needs an Oral Medicine Opinion +/- biopsy. Make sure you ring the dentist on Monday OP.

HCantThinkOfAUsername Sat 13-May-17 09:14:54

Nope not a blister, thought it was getting better last night but it's not. Damn thing! Have a GP appt for something else on Monday so will mention it then

Mrsmorton Sat 13-May-17 10:09:22

Would strongly advise dentist and nor doctor but you need to get that looked at if it's been there for more than ten days.

HCantThinkOfAUsername Sat 13-May-17 11:15:38

7 weeks Tuesday. Doesn't look like a usual ulcer but feels like it if that makes sense

Gingernaut Sat 13-May-17 11:20:51

Try this stuff.

It can only be bought over the counter. Apply with a cotton bud.

If it doesn't get better within the week, seek medical attention.

Mrsmorton Sat 13-May-17 11:23:52

It's already been there for 7 weeks. I'm a dentist and it is my professional opinion that it needs to be looked at by a dentist.

Don't fanny around trying to treat it with anything that is only intended to give pain relief, get it looked at.

HCantThinkOfAUsername Sat 13-May-17 11:40:29

I will get it checked @Mrsmorton , hopefully it's nothing.
Thank you all flowers

Comedyusername Sat 13-May-17 12:26:59

7 weeks?? Blimey, poor you!

HCantThinkOfAUsername Sat 13-May-17 15:36:48

I had something very similar on the side of my tongue. I was referred to the hospital and had a small biopsy taken from my tongue to check that it was OK. Luckily it was all ok - I was diagnosed with lichen planus but best go to the dentist to make sure!

AuditAngel Sun 14-May-17 22:19:42

MrsMorton please can I ask an unconnected dentist question? DD2 (6) has an adult lower incisor growing and the baby tooth is still hardly wobbly. Do we need to take her to see the dentist!

Mrsmorton Sun 14-May-17 22:40:20

Not especially, as long as she has regular check ups it will be picked up in time to do anything if necessary.

HCantThinkOfAUsername Thu 22-Jun-17 20:14:44

Its still here and getting bigger. So 3 months now! Getting it rechecked tomorrow by practise nurse. When I saw gp 6 weeks ago he said it looked like it was beginning to heal but it hasn't.

viques Thu 22-Jun-17 20:22:28

Please please insist on an urgent referral to the ENT clinic at your hospital. It could be nothing, it could be something very nasty. My dear friend was fobbed off by her GP/dentist. Her husband booked her a private ENT appointment but sadly it all went downhill from there.

HCantThinkOfAUsername Thu 22-Jun-17 20:29:29

I've got a feeling I'll be fobbed off again and no way I can pay privately sad sorry about your friends DH @viques
