I have had this lump on my back for a good few years. Occasionally if I've pressed it in the right place a bit of gunk has come out but not often. Anyway, recently it has felt firmer and started to hurt if pressed. So I asked my husband to squueze it for me. He got a fair bit of gunk out but since then (about a week ago) it seems to have grown even more. If I squeeze it (very tricky angle so I can't get much pressure on it) sometimes a tiny bit of liquid with some white gunk comes out but not much. And my husband can't seem to get much more out (and is not a sporner and has to be nagged to have a go). It feels like there is loads there and I just can't get it to erupt! Tonight it feels like there is a spot on top of the main lump. Any advice please?

Jesus op that's a right beaut. Bumping this in case someone has any advice for you.
I'd try some mag sulphate and hot flannel on it first before getting someone to try going at it again.

How about TCP regularly (e.g. every 30 min) on it to draw it out and dry it up?

You'd want to be in for the day though as it stinks!

Mag Sulphate?

Given the not brilliant photo, not a criticism, it's an awkward place to photo, it looks like an infected sebaceous cyst. Which means you could try mag sulpha paste dressing or a hydrocolloid dressing (blister or burn plaster) to draw it, but it will refill until the capsule (outer covering - think garden pea like) is removed. Which usually necessitates a small procedure under local anaesthetic, which is done by GP or minor op unit if your GP doesn't do them.
If it is bothering you, then an appointment with your Practice Nurse is the first stage, as it needs to be not infected before any removal procedure can be done without a risk of making the infection spread.

Sorry about the photo. My husband took it and had to be nagged to do that too! Mag sulphate you think? Can you get that from most chemists? It now feels a bit softer inside but is still quite large.

Thanks for the offer Space! The inflammation seems to have gone down a bit now. A couple of days ago I managed to prod it a bit and get some wet but solidish white stuff out. Because of the angle of my arm behind my back it shot out into my cupped hand!
