This week, we’re giving MNers a chance to ask Zoe Griffiths – Weight Watchers Dietician - any questions you might have about the Weight Watchers programme.

With 10 years of experience as a Dietitian, as well as experience supporting a range of departments within Weight Watchers, Zoe will be able to offer advice and information on the Weight Watchers programme.

If you’ve heard anything about Weight Watchers that you’d like Zoe to clarify, please ask your questions here.

Post your questions to Zoe on this thread before 7th September and we will send 20 questions over for her to respond to. We will then post a link to her responses on the thread on 22nd September.

Everyone who adds a question (regardless of whether it's answered or not) will be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £100 vouchers for Asda plus a free 3 month Weight Watchers membership.

This Q&A is sponsored by Weight Watchers.

Thanks
MNHQ

Can teenagers join weightwatchers and would you recommend that they do. I have a close family member who is 15 and trying to lose weight. I am keen that if she loses the weight sensibly and without fads. I have followed weightwatchers with great success would it be good for her?

Why does pasta have such a high pro point value when on slimming world it's a free food?

Breakfast options seem to be high in points values for what you get for it. What's the best type of thing to have for breakfast to keep you going till lunch?

I am in my 50s and have dieted for most of my adult life. Over the years the WW diet has changed substantially (I've been so many times I have the books to prove it!) from a fairly sensible portion-controlled fresh food diet moving to include more and more heavily processed diet foods, often sold as your own brand. This has meant for years people have not learned how to eat properly but have eaten processed calorie reduced versions of the same stuff that made them fat in the first place so increasing the likelihood of relapse (not to mention profits for WW and the food corporations). Only recently with Simple Start do WW seem to be going back to learning to eat sensible healthy food.

I know this is a controversial question but do you accept that the weight loss industry has some responsibility in the obesity problem? Do WW try to address the issue of yoyo dieting and, if so, how?

(Btw, yes, I have dieted on and off for over 30 years but am still obese)

Hi Zoe, I've been doing WW since January and have lost a stone and a half and am now very near my target.

i'm kind of hovering around a few pounds away from my goal weight but I'd love to hear your top tips for buckling down and getting to target - I've found that Simple Start doesn't really work for me as I find it too carb-heavy. I'm also vegetarian.

I'm SO close to goal but it's hard to stay on track now!

I've always been put off trying WW because it seems to be all about weighing food before for some after for others - offputting when time always seems short with a family to cater for, run around for and then find some quiet time before it's lights out for the household. Is this not the case now or am I still right that this is not for those who need it quick and simple?

I have to say simple start / filling and healthy doesn't require lots of weighing of food and gives you lots of unprocessed food to eat. I liked WW.

If you have x number of points each day (26?) and you don't use them all up, are you permitted to carry them over to the next day, or are they 'lost'?

Is there a WW plan for breastfeeding mothers or is it already suitable?
Are there any puddings available to eat or is it just fruit?

I have IBS and am unable to eat a lot of fruit veg and pulses because it sets it off. This makes WW a difficult diet for me to follow. Do you have any advice for the people that can't take advantage of the free foods?

If you're out and about and have no way of calculating pp's, can you estimate from the amount of calories what the pp's would be?

It's really important to keep trying new things, so you don't get stuck in a meal rut. When looking for recipe ideas in your books and magazines, it always shows the points values for the whole recipe for those following the full pro points system. It's nearly impossible to work out the points if you're following filling and healthy with 49 points over the week. Can you please start showing the points for this method too?

Why is WW not recommended for pregnant women? Especially the simple start plan? Surely it's just based on healthy eating, and should therefore be fine in pregnancy? (Currently on WW and planning on trying to conceive again in the next few months, and really don't want to stop as I put on tonnes of weight during my first pregnancy).

What is your personal "bad habit" when it comes to food?

(nobody's perfect)

And what is the one change that you made to your diet that made a bigger difference than you expected, or was easier/more enjoyable than you thought it would be?

I'm 1lb off my goal weight at WW, hoping to achieve it this week!! My question is, what are your top tips for staying at goal once you get there?

Report

I would like the answer to Scousadelic's question as well.
I have been to ww so many times I've lost count. I've always lost weight, nearly got to goal hundreds of times but have never managed to sustain the weight loss.
I am now bigger than I have ever been, but just can't face the inevitable glacial speed weight loss that comes with age. Do you have any tips for older, menopausal women who find losing weight extremely difficult, however strictly they stick to a diet?

Good point, scousadelic.
My question is along the same lines - why so much processed stuff? So much sugar? Is it because fresh, real food can't be marketed as WW?

Do you have advice for how a comfort eater can adapt to a healthier diet? I really need to lose weight, but I often eat not out of hunger but due to low mood or even boredom. Luckily, I do love carrot sticks & pepper, but it just isn't the same.
