Take Five and Mumsnet have teamed up to find 100 parents to attend an exclusive event where you can not only learn all the best tips and advice on how to protect yourself against financial scams and fraud, but also ‘take five’ out of your (probably) busy life to relax and enjoy some of the special treats - including relaxing massages, makeovers and manicures - we have available to attendees.
To attend you’ll ideally have at least one child.

THIS IS NOT A SCAM! ONE PERSON WHO ATTENDS WILL WIN £500!

Here’s what Take Five have to say: “Our research shows that many people do not feel confident that they could identify a fraudulent approach. Therefore the event will aim to empower and inspire parents to feel better prepared to ‘confidently challenge’ fraudsters, and recognise signs of fraud - remembering the mantra – My Money? My Info? I don’t think so.

Over the course of evening, there will be a number of gorgeous treats and delights for attendees to stop and enjoy such as:

  • Life (hand) drawing in the classroom space hosted by Art Macabre
  • Autumn canapes from Humdingers Hoxton (delicious local supplier)
  • Manicures from Le Salon
  • Cremant de Limoux from Berry Bros and Rudd plus a selection soft drinks

Speakers at the event will include Mumsnet co-founder Carrie Longton, plus fraud prevention officer, Tony Blake and representatives from Take Five members.

The event will take place on Tuesday 28th November in Shoreditch, London at 6:15-9pm. Travel costs will not be covered, but all attendees will be asked to share their feedback on the event on a thread on Mumsnet and will be entered into a prize draw to win a £300 John Lewis voucher. You may also be able to bring a friend - if you'd like to please just let us know.

Following the event, we would require all attendees to share their feedback on the event on a thread on Mumsnet.

Please click here to sign up.

Thanks and good luck!

Why are these events always held in London?

Brilliant, i've signed up. I like to think I'm savvy to this sort of thing but the scammers keep coming up with new ways to trick people, I really don't want to get caught out!

Sounds interesting but if there's one night of the week I'm unlikely to be schlepping to the other side of London, it's Monday evening.

28th Nov is a Tuesday. Grin. Still a trek to the other side of London is still a trek

I can't make it but would love to know what venue you are using? Please?

Blush there's no hope for me - disoriented in time...

But yes, the other side of London (but quite some margin) is still a schlepp too far on a weekday evening in November.

Why London? Why not midlands? The north? Wales? Scotland? Why is it always bloody London?

London is the place the highest amount of the population can get to in the shortest time. Capital city innit. Transport infrastructure is designed to get us all there. I am not based in London but it is easier to get to than lots of places closer to me.

How does a pedicure stop fraud? The mind boggles.

I have signed up and enjoy pedicures and John Lewis :-). And could really really use help with nursery fees!

Would like to attend because I think I would spot a fraudulent approach and I feel a bit... complacent!

I’d love to go but it’s too far and I have a 4 month old to worry about.

I run a personal finance blog so would have loved to feature it!

I'm going! Luckily it's pretty near where I work. I was going to take a friend who can't now make it so will be going solo (which I'm ashamed to admit is quite a big deal for me)! Blush

Just attended this event, appeared to be well attended and everyone was happy. free flowing cremant, I was on the soft drinks but there were plenty of soft options.

Unfortunately I missed the talk however I was fortunate enough to meet one of the Tesco bank representatives who kindly gave me a quick recap.

There were massages (missed out), mini manicures - I managed to get one of these which was a nice luxury - make up and a life drawing class.

The life drawing class looked especially interesting and a really nice touch I thought, would definitely have been up for that if my drawing skills amounted to more than a stick mam family 😜

Fraud is so much more advanced now, learnt a useful tip about hovering over the web link before clicking. Also always check the email address.

Thanks mumsnet

I really enjoyed this evening - thank you Mumsnet for arranging it all.

I found it scary that fraudsters can spoof a number so a dodgy text message they send with dangerous links can appear to be from your own bank and even be in a string of real messages from the bank. Will be extra careful from now on!

Lots of useful tips, the main one being to literally take 5 before giving any details. We are often too polite and want to be helpful and feel pushed into giving information but really need to hold back a bit more.
