David Lloyd are looking for 30 Mumsnet families to attend one of three event days at their clubs in either Hampton or Edinburgh in May and June, which includes free use of the facilities for all of the family during half term!
Selected attendees will get a brief introduction/tour of the David Lloyd Club on the dates below and experience the facilities for both parents and children.

You’ll be treated to refreshments from the DLicious menu that's packed full of meals for the whole family to enjoy. You can lead a healthy and active lifestyle together as a family with us! With more than 100 kids activities every single week and adult classes cleverly timed to coincide, you’ll love time together at your club. While the kids race around at our action-packed DL Kids Holiday Active club, you can work out in our state of the art gym, try a new class, such as group cycling or yoga, or simply relax and unwind in the sauna, spa or café bar. Kids can take swimming and tennis to the next level with our fantastic All Stars junior coaching and enjoy multi-sport and arts & crafts with Club Active. We always time our kids classes so that they coincide with group exercise classes for adults too!’

The event days will be available at the following locations on these dates:

David Lloyd Hampton Staines Road, Hampton, Middlesex, TW2 5JD
Tuesday 31st May 2pm – 4pm

David Lloyd Edinburgh 89B Glasgow Road, Edinburgh, Mid Lothian, EH12 8GZ

And then afterwards they'll bombard you with texts, calls, and emails trying to get you to sign up at extortionate monthly fees I bet.

I left about 7 years ago due to a price hike, and they're still trying to get me to go back!

dannydyerismydad Mon 09-May-16 12:58:11

Would happily give this a go if it was at a branch more local to me sad

mollyonthemove Mon 09-May-16 13:07:01

Ah. Prices have gone up ridiculously and they are trying to get more people in! Excellent.

Disabrie22 Mon 09-May-16 14:37:00

The prices are ridiculous - we have one here.

NoMudNoLotus Mon 09-May-16 16:33:07

Wouldn't go back there even for free.

Awful place.

AtSea1979 Mon 09-May-16 17:55:30

Do you have to attend one of those clubs at half term or just for the event and then use a more local one for half term?

ILikeBigBumpsAndICannotLie Mon 09-May-16 18:01:53

I'm a member at the Hampton one and frankly areas of it are ridiculously filthy, vents encrusted, light bulbs thick with dust, mouldy trim on the pool. The loos have been leaking for weeks onto the floor of the ladies loo, some of the toilet seats don't fit the loos and a fair number of the lockers don't lock. Don't order the fries either, they're served in rusty tin cups, drives me mad. The wet spas been redone recently,it seems identical only cleaner which was badly needed. I've loved being a member but when my contracts done this time I'm finished, their housekeeping is a real problem.

Agree with Ilikebigbumps .

Our David Lloyd is literally over the Rd from us - so perfect for after school swim etc .

But no, even with having a pain disability I would rather walk half hour further than go to David Lloyd.

Ours is sooooo pretentious !! I have no idea why though. It's a uninspiring dull dirty unfriendly place to be.

Are they getting the message yet ?

RubySparks Tue 10-May-16 06:34:01

OK that sounds bad but I'd still like to try the Edinburgh one and see for myself!

I moved to DL this year, I took out a family membership and wish I'd done it sooner. It's more expensive than my old gym but the customer service is way better. We had a lovely weekend enjoying the outdoor pool in the lovely weather.

I used to be a member of DL in Southampton. My experiences were that the staff were unhelpful and imperious, and I didn't care much for the members either (sniffy, entitled, misplaced attitude of superiority).

I left and got a log cabin in my garden, equipped it as a gym and use a personal trainer once weekly to keep me focussed. So much nicer

Wish one of the London ones was participating - we were members years ago and loved it but it just became far too expensive once they started insisting we paid full fees for all 3 dcs even though they only came once in a blue moon for a Sunday morning swim. And paying £15/child each time didn't seem like a winning option either, when the local lido is close by and has slides and a wave machine for less than £15 for the whole family! Still miss it was a lovely place to hang out on a sunny day.

Hi All,

We've heard from David Lloyd, and they've let us know that if you are able to attend the event day, you'll be able to then use the week long pass at a club more local to you smile

Thanks, MNHQ

DameXanaduBramble Tue 10-May-16 18:43:47

Oh yay, I do so love it when I pay through the th nose at my club and its overrun with freeloaders in the holidays.

NoMudNoLotus Tue 10-May-16 19:07:30

Hmc yes yes to sniffy entitled members.

DameXanaduBramble Tue 10-May-16 19:27:22

I pay to be sniffy.

DameXanaduBramble Tue 10-May-16 19:30:54

Actually I'm the last sniffy person at my lovely club, but it really does get on members' tits, this sort of thing.

ItsLikeRainOnYourWeddingDay Tue 10-May-16 20:49:27

I think Dame had a point. It's a reasonably exclusive club, this is not the way to encourage more people to sign up.

SeekEveryEveryKnownHidingPlace Wed 11-May-16 08:55:49

David Lloyd are horrible .... Can't bear ours.

SeekEveryEveryKnownHidingPlace Wed 11-May-16 11:10:25

We bought my daughter 3 month membership for her birthday, to see whether she'd like it and want full membership - they also gave us a 2 week pass for other members of the family.

Oh my god, the phonecalls and the pestering at the end of it all! I hate the way their pricing is never clear, it seems to suggest they're making it up as they go along depending whether they like the cut of your jib!

Also I lost a watch in the changing rooms, and when I went to reception to ask if it had been handed in, they said 'it does happen a lot, people take things'. I looked a bit surprised, and then they said 'I think it's the people with the temporary passes, to be honest'. So I said that I had a temporary pass and that I certainly hadn't got it in order to come in and steal things! They did look a bit embarrassed then.

Overall my experience of DL was quite distasteful.

mollyonthemove Wed 11-May-16 12:22:44

Absolutely - the free weeks or £15 for 10 days people really wind me up!! They have no intention of joining most of the time and take over <snooty type>

hmcAsWas Wed 11-May-16 16:07:48

Just to clarify, I was a fully paid up member of DLL but still found the other members (ludicrously) snooty and insufferable

SeekEveryEveryKnownHidingPlace Wed 11-May-16 16:20:24

As Groucho so nearly said: I wouldn't want to join any club whose members would look down on me because I thought it was wise to try it out short term before I committed to a year's membership, or whose staff suggested that anyone who took up the trial they were offering was pilfering from the changing rooms....

(I think his version was pithier grin)

hmcAsWas Wed 11-May-16 17:06:31

Good point Seek, not so succinctly made wink
