This feedback thread is from the Mumsnetters who attended exclusive preview screenings of the new Sony Pictures film – ‘The Angry Birds Movie!’ on 8th May.

You view the trailer here.

The Angry Birds Movie Synopsis:
In the 3D animated comedy, The Angry Birds Movie, we'll finally find out why the birds are so angry. The movie takes us to an island populated entirely by happy, flightless birds – or almost entirely. In this paradise, Red (Jason Sudeikis, We're the Millers, Horrible Bosses), a bird with a temper problem, speedy Chuck (Josh Gad in his first animated role since Frozen), and the volatile Bomb (Danny McBride, This Is the End, Eastbound and Down) have always been outsiders. But when the island is visited by mysterious green piggies, it’s up to these unlikely outcasts to figure out what the pigs are up to.
If you attended a screening, please answer the questions below:

Q1. Who did you attend the screening with – including the ages of your DC

There's an issue with the projector at the Manchester screening so we're off to see jungle book too. The children are disappointed but happy to see something else instead. I can't fault the cinema staff for the way it's been handled.

  1. Who did you attend the screening with – including the ages of your DC

We came with two of the DC , boys aged 8 and 10 - dh and I drove up.

Q2. Your overall summary of the film

Leo (10) - it was hilarious. It's a brilliant portrayal of the original Angry Birds

Me - funny and well done version of the game with enough adult humour to keep the grown ups laughing

Monty (8) - the evil pigs are defeated

Q3. What was your DC’s favourite part of the film? What was their favourite character?

Leo - the mine artist was hilarious and the best bit was with her and Bomb was the best xter
Monty - my favourite xter was the speedy one (chuck) and probably the part where they're crossing and the baby blows a raspberry
I loved Terence and the egg rescue

Q4. Out of 5, how many stars would you give the film? How many would your DC give it?

4/5 for me
Leo - 5/5
Monty 4/5
Dh 4/5

Q5. Overall, what was your experience like of the screening?
Really well done, no fighting to get a photo. The bags are lovely, popcorn and water always good. Dh (only non veggie) has a lot of novelty peperami to work through... People were really smiley and friendly. I feel bad that we left promptly - we caught sight of cameras being set up but it would have looked daft to go back - apologies if we missed something.

Q6. If it came up in conversation, would you recommend ‘The Angry Birds Movie!’ to friend and family? Why?

Yes it was funny and all ages would find it funny (dh)
I would; sitting thro cartoons can be hit and miss but this was great. 3D was fantastic.

No showing at Manchester due to technical problems staff very helpful son loved the reception we got with popcorn and the goody bag he was upset he couldn't see the film however as he had been looking forward to it after seeing the numerous trailers on tv. Wish technical problems could have been sorted

Unfortunately the projector was broken at Manchester so we didn't get to see it. The staff were nice about it and offered to let everyone see a different film instead but unfortunately we had a long drive so had to get back to our dog. They did give us tickets for a future show though. Sorry not to be able to give feedback!

We attended the London screening, myself and DD aged 7.
We both really enjoyed it - lots of fun and slapstick, plus a few cheeky jokes for the grown ups. I loved the soundtrack - Black Sabbath and Rick Astley in the same movie!
DD and I both rated it 5/5.
DD's favourite parts were the mime artist bird, the very zen like Matilda farting thunderbolts, and the end, where she correctly predicted that the 3 blue baby birds would become the trio of Angry Birds she recognised from the game.
Our experience of the screening was great - DD loved meeting the characters, the goody bags and posters are great, and there was plenty of space. Lovely cinema too - reclining seats a big plus!!
I would definitely recommend this movie to anyone, they've managed to keep the heart and spirit of the game alive, whilst making a funny and engaging story.
Thank you to Mumsnet, Sony and Picturehouse for a fab morning.

Another one who was at the Manchester non-show. Staff were lovely, dc's were bored after an hour of sitting waiting so we declined their offer of watching another film. Oh, and I ate too much popcorn.

The staff were very friendly and the children were really pleased with their popcorn and water.

Youngest tried popcorn for the first time and liked it.

We played shadow puppets with the angry birds characters once we'd finished swapping them so we were all happy.

DS1 is a peperami fiend so happily munched through his and mine.

We decided as we were out and about to go to the jungle book which DS1 (12) and DS2 (10) enjoyed but DD (5) got a bit tired and had a nice cuddle instead.

Overall impression was good, we had two firsts DD tried popcorn and DS1 (autistic) went to a public toilet by himself! The event was well coordinated with nicely laid out bags and drinks so we weren't overloaded getting to our seats. Staff were friendly and informative.

We're still looking forwards to seeing the film and have had Angry Birds McDonalds to keep the theme going until we actually get to see it next week.

I'd be lying to say we aren't disappointed but everyone did the best possible considering and mumsnetters are a lovely civilised crowd so it was all very orderly inspite of the dissapointment.

I clicked the email link to the survey sent but its not possible to give not applicable answers so you'd get very scewed results if the trafford centre figures are included in the answers. Do you want it filled in still?

Took myself and sister and daughter, age of daughter 6 years old.

Q2 the film was about a cute red bird who had rather large eyebrows and had a anger problem he needed to address!!! He went off to a yoga relaxation anger management place and met some other unusual birdies!!!! One exploded when he got crazy!! They become a little gang of Friends and get to know each other and try to save their island birds eggs from the horrible green piggies. Basically the red birdy saves the eggs and brings them back to the bird island and them he becomes a great member of the angry bird community!!!
Q3 loved the yoga teacher birdy
Q4 I give it well deserved 5 stars and my daughter 5 stars also
Q5 the screening experience at the picturesque london was brilliant the angry birds were there to greet us and the seats were lush sooo comfy, we were given goody bags which was existing and made us feel special and the welcome from staff spot on.
Q6 I would highly recommend this film as it's a totally different storyline to other films and teaches indirectly to sort you anger out and you will live a relaxing life.

Thanks mumsnet for this wonderful first film screening experience. Grin

I attended the screening in London with my DS, who is 8 tomorrow, and DH.
We really enjoyed the film, the scene at the lake particularly (we haven't grown up either) but also the 3D action scenes towards the end.
DS' favourite bit was at the very start when you were introduced to Bomb and it showed a flashback to a birthday party.
His favourite character was Bomb.
DS gave it 5/5, from a parent perspective we would give it 4.
The screening was super: lovely venue, reclining seats and goody bags, though would have been better if the lights had been raised at the end - rather than scrabbling out to the light of our mobile phones.
Yes, I would certainly recommend it to others - and will do so at DS' birthday party this afternoon - but would probably recommend going 3D as it certainly enhanced the experience.

Q1. Who did you attend the screening with – including the ages of your DC

I attended with DS2 (11), his friend (also 11) and DD (8).

Q2. Your overall summary of the film

We all thought it was very good - we were all laughing out loud in places.

Q3. What was your DC’s favourite part of the film? What was their favourite character?

Favourite part: DD - that part where the eagle wee'd into the lake; DS2 - where the bomb bird blew everything up; his friend - no favourite part, "I liked it all".

Favourite character: DD - Bomb; DS2 - Terence; DS's friend - Chuck.

Q4. Out of 5, how many stars would you give the film? How many would your DC give it?

I give it 4. DD - 4.5; DS2 - 4; DS's friend - 5.

Q5. Overall, what was your experience like of the screening?

Very good - we were not expecting the freebies (popcorn etc) so that was nice - thank you. The children also got a chance to be interviewed for the You-tube channel, which they enjoyed.

Q6. If it came up in conversation, would you recommend ‘The Angry Birds Movie!’ to friend and family? Why?

Yes I would, because it was funnier than I was expecting and had adult humour as well as slapstick. I also liked the sound track! I thought the 3D worked well as well, bringing everything more to life.

Q1. Who did you attend the screening with – including the ages of your DC
I took DS (6)
Q2. Your overall summary of the film
I was surprised at how good it was! I knew DS would love it, but expected to be bored myself - I was wrong! It's a good option for the whole family, it's funny and not too long. It also doesn't have too much smushy 'pull on the heartstrings' type stuff, which can be wearing for me icequeen and too much for little ones. DS said it was AWESOME!
Q3. What was your DC’s favourite part of the film? What was their favourite character?
The part where they destroyed the castle was DS's favourite. He liked the 'mime' character best!
Q4. Out of 5, how many stars would you give the film? How many would your DC give it?
Me - 3/5 DS - 5/5
Q5. Overall, what was your experience like of the screening?
It was a really lovely morning, the staff were friendly, the venue was great and the goodie bags were a fab surprise. I'll definitely go back to that cinema, I thought it was a much more civilised experience than my local Vue or Odeon!
Q6. If it came up in conversation, would you recommend ‘The Angry Birds Movie!’ to friend and family? Why?
I would, it's got enough humour for adults and every child I know loves Angry Birds!

We went to Manchester, staff were lovely and very apologetic about the problem with the projector. My son was a bit disappointed but that's just the way it goes! We did however enjoy the popcorn and goody bags and although we couldn't take them up on their offer of watching another film today due to other commitments and timings, we have come away with free tickets to use any other time, which is great.

We thought the goody bags and popcorn/water was a fab treat that we hadn't expected, so thank you. Here's a picture with the masks anyway Smile
