Hotel Transylvania 2 Synopsis:
Drac's pack is back for an all-new monster comedy adventure in Sony Pictures Animation's Hotel Transylvania 2! Everything seems to be changing for the better at Hotel Transylvania...
Dracula's rigid monster-only hotel policy has finally relaxed, opening up its doors to human guests. But behind closed coffins, Drac is worried that his adorable half-human, half-vampire grandson, Dennis, isn't showing signs of being a vampire. So while Mavis is busy visiting her human in-laws with Johnny - and in for a major cultural shock of her own - 'Vampa' Drac enlists his friends Frank, Murray, Wayne and Griffin to put Dennis through a "monster-in-training" boot camp. But little do they know that Drac's grumpy and very old, old, old school dad Vlad is about to pay a family visit to the hotel. And when Vlad finds out that his great-grandson is not a pure blood - and humans are now welcome at Hotel Transylvania - things are going to get batty!

For some reason I turned up at 9.30am on Saturday instead of Sunday ha! But the staff and manager at the Odeon were so lovely and let us in anyway. They also gave my DD a drink and popcorn box.
We were then the only people in the whole cinema so it was great!
We were waiting around a bit because we were so early so my DD was a bit restless so we didn't finish the whole film.
My DD is 4. She said the film was really good but it didn't keep her attention throughout. I would definitely recommend the film especially for Halloween coming up. The odeon had lots of decorations up which was fab.

Just back from the screening with my husband and 6 year old twins. The film kept us entertained and our kids found lots of the escapades with the monsters very funny! They both loved Dennis"ovitch" and vampa Drac and their favourite part of the movie was the monster school boot camp. I would probably give it a 3 star but the kids have rated it 4 stars- because they still prefer the first Transylvania movie. The staff at the cinema were really helpful ( went and found clip on 3d glasses for my son) the drink,popcorn and face masks were an added bonus, and we particularly loved meeting the characters in the foyer. I would recommend this movie, however any younger, sensitive children may find some of the monsters too scary!

Q2. Your overall summary of the film The film was good. When it ended the youngest immediately asked to watch it again. The older one said it was better than the first. It is fairly predictable but there were some funny moments in it.

Q3. What was your DC’s favourite part of the film? What was their favourite character? Worryingly ds's favourite part was when a monster was being stretched on a rack . Dd just liked the whole film. They both love Dracula.

Q4. Out of 5, how many stars would you give the film? How many would your DC give it? I'd give it 3. 7 year old says 4 and 4 year old says 5.

Q5. Overall, what was your experience like of the screening? I went to the Manchester screening and it was disappointing. There was nothing happening in the foyer so we were sent through to the theatre and told to wait. An hour in a dark room with just the sound from trailers to entertain 2 young ones is a LONG time. The staff were apologetic and did find masks, water and popcorn but due to them not being prepared for us it took a full hour to give these things out and my ungrateful children were bored. Also, when it started there was 20 minutes of adverts and trailers when we were told there weren't any so I was late getting home as the film started late. We did have a good time though and thank you MN for picking us to go!

Q6. If it came up in conversation, would you recommend Hotel Transylvania 2 to friend and family? Why? Yes, if you enjoyed the first one you'll like this. It's a similar tale in that humans are pretending to be monsters and that family are most important but different enough that you don't feel you're watching the same film twice.

Just back from the Westfield screening. The four of us (me, DH, and two DS's aged 13 and 8) really enjoyed the film.

The film was funny and had quite a heartwarming message.

My DC's favourite part of the film was the bit where the little boy had fallen/was pushed off the top of a tall tower by his vampire Grandfather in the hope that he would fly! My oldest DS liked the vampire best and my youngest DS liked the little boy, Dennis most of all.

It was rated 4 by the DC and 3 by DH and I.

Overall experience of the screening was very good. The staff were nice. The masks, popcorn and water were very welcome. Loo's were spotless which is always a bonus.

We would all recommend this film to other families.

Q2. Your overall summary of the film - Dennis is of mixed parentage and the film is about adult's prejudices, ends with adults learning their lesson and love conquering all (completely unrealistic, but hey!).

Q3. What was your DC’s favourite part of the film? What was their favourite character? My DD loved all of it, couldn't pick a favourite part, there were many funny bits such as the Vamp Camp, and monster party with all the naughty sugar loaded wolf cubs. Her favourite character was Dennis, mine was Winnie his wolf cub friend.


Q4. Out of 5, how many stars would you give the film? How many would your DC give it? I'd give it 5. Both the kids said 10 out of 5 (must have a word with the teacher at parents eve).

Q5. Overall, what was your experience like of the screening? Lovely atmosphere, great having the characters around and the kids loved the masks. However, I thought they'd have a little goody bag on their seat with sweets and such, but they did get a bag of popcorn. I think I'd built that bit up to them too much and they were a little ungrateful disappointed.


Q6. If it came up in conversation, would you recommend Hotel Transylvania 2 to friend and family? Why? Yes, the kids said they would definitely recommend it, and I would to other families as its a good film with lots of funny bits for the adults too. We all preferred it to Inside Out which was the last film we saw.

It was good fun, perfect for my 6 year old as it had her attention throughout. She found some parts hilariously funny and even I laughed too at one point (think it was inviting the hairy man to the party as they thought he was a werewolf?!) though I wouldn't normally watch this kind of film as it's a bit formulaic & predictable.

We went to the Trafford Centre screening and I was really disappointed as it seemed so disorganised. I had made the mistake of mentioning to DD that there would be things going on in the foyer beforehand/goody bag but we were sat for nearly an hour in screen 11 with only the sound of trailers for entertainment and no sign of popcorn/drinks etc until much later when a staff member had to try to get round everyone single handed to give out the masks, water & popcorn...and 3D glasses. The film wasn't actually in 3D today so I don't know what happened there?!! The Despicable Me 2 screening we went to a couple of years ago was the exact opposite, so well organised and a proper 'event' so perhaps my expectations were a bit high. The email did specify there wouldn't be trailers either...and there was which was a bit annoying after waiting so long. Staff were lovely though and replaced our masks when we lost them at the end as I just couldn't find them in the dark. Why didn't the lights come on when it had finished?!!

Generally yes, it was funny in places for adults and DD really enjoyed it

We all enjoyed it, and thought it was funny. Easy plot for the 7 yr old to follow. Better than the original.

Their favourite part was the scene where Drac threw the baby off the tower to teach him to fly. They also loved the slapstick humour throughout.

The film was enjoyable, and we were treated to popcorn, character masks and bottled water. However, we were also given 3D glasses even though the film was in 2D.
The man in the foyer directed us to the wrong screen - twice!

Yes, it's a good, funny family film, though not for very young children due to some scary scenes towards the end (Vlad's henchmen)

Perfectly funny for their ages, I even laughed a fair few times! Not as scary as I though either. Really enjoyable.

Q3. What was your DC’s favourite part of the film? What was their favourite character? When they all piled on the scooter. DD liked Murray the best, and DS liked Blobby.

I think we would all give it 5 stars.

Not great. The print off said fun in the foyer from 9am. Staff told us we weren't allowed in until 9.30 and to stand away. There were no characters in the foyer, and it certainly wasn't fun!
We then took our seats, and there were no treats as promised. I went and asked staff, who knew nothing. We did later get a small popcorn and water for the DC. This would have been easier to have ready to hand out as we walked in, as it happened the poor lady was bringing it to the seats which took until 10.30! And then having been there for a full hour and a half, when the show started, we then had to sit through the trailers until 10.53 (sorry, I checked! ). Even though it had said there would be no trailer. 2 hours of nothing was not something I'd like to do again soon! Oh and they handed out 3D glasses when it wasn't even shown in 3D. This was the Trafford Centre.

Q6. If it came up in conversation, would you recommend Hotel Transylvania 2 to friend and family? Why?

Yes, good family film, I think we'd even go and see it again!

Both children thought the fight scene was the best bit.

The overall experience was okay. It was annoying that we were told to get there early but there was nothing to do. Also there was half an hour of adverts and trailers so there was lots of sitting about. The water and popcorn were a bonus.

I would recommend the film but not for very young children as it was a bit scary.

I attended with my 8 year-old daughter.
Q2. Your overall summary of the film
Like the first one, it's very funny and sweet. There were plenty of bits to keep both the children and adults laughing.

We also saw it in 3D, and unlike most 3D films that just seem to be 3D for the sake of it, having it in 3D was pretty cool. There were loads of moments where we felt as though we were right in the movie.

She loved the bit about Dennis' first word: Bleh-ble-bleh. Mavis was her favourite character, because 'she can fly and has a sense of humour.' I think she identifies with her, and would like to be able to do the things that she can do. As a mum, my favourite was Drac, because he tries to be tough, but he's such a teddy bear, and he'll do anything for his family. He's so loveable and sweet.

We would both give it 4 stars.

She enjoyed the popcorn, the real characters (Frank was so sweet! The way he posed with her was lovely, and when I thanked him, he did a little bow!), and the masks.

Yes, because it was funny and we think that lots of people would like it. Overall, it was a fun morning out, and I think that the whole experience is going to be one of those memories that she will have for a long time, and will certainly tell all her friends at school about tomorrow!

It was good. DS was a bit wary of the characters there at first, but then had his photos taken with them. Was a bit of hanging around having been asked to arrive at 9:30. The popcorn & water was a nice touch & he loved the masks - would have been nice to have a little bag to carry them in though. Film started pretty much on time, and was good to have no trailers for a change! I hadn't realised we would see a 3d, so ended up balancing the glasses on top of my own.

Yes I think I would, esp if they'd seen the first one. I think it might be a bit too scary for very young or sensitive children, but it has lots of funny & sweet moments too.

I attended the screening with My two children: Jasmine Nituan age 8 and Joules Nituan age 6 and Husband (ancient)

Q2. Your overall summary of the film
We really enjoyed Hotel Transylvania 2, it has something for everyone. The characters are all very funny and have unique characteristics which they use to try and help Dennis learn how to be a monster whilst in Dracula's care. The 3D effects are amazing, and the story has so many quirky bits along the way like when blobby falls off the edge of the mountain! The main story line is how Mavis and Johnny go to stay with Johnny's parents to see what human life is like; they might want to move away from the hotel. But Dracula really wants to get Dennis to be a monster so they will stay in Transylvania. My kids really loved it when Dracula took Dennis to learn about being a Vampire; at vampire school he throws him off a tall tower so he might learn to turn into a bat. The tower is incredibly high and he falls and falls and .....I won't spoil it! (but lets just say the kids really laughed when the tower falls and fires break out!). There are so many good bits all the way through it is hard to just pick out one or two; it is continuous fun from start to finish. I think a couple of really young ones were a bit scared of the old vampar (Vlad-great grandpa Dracula), he is a bit scary! But the scary bits add to the excitement. The monsters really are fun, blobby, Murray, Frankenstein and Drac all try to get on a scooter after the car is destroyed and it is hilarious when it will hardly move. The story shows some reflection of the difficulties families have in deciding how and where to bring up kids. Dracula has trouble using his mobile because of his long nails and he does not follow the instructions that Mavis gives him for looking after Dennis (Dennisovitch..). We will definitely get this on DVD so we can watch it again.

Joules really likes Frankenstein and enjoyed the part when he tried to scare people but ended up having his photo taken. Jasmine says she likes the wolf litter and the girl wolf who like Dennis- because she is cool and stops the bullies from laughing at him.

It was a good family film. A few laughs in there for the adults. Good characters and plot, I'd say it was as good as the original. DS did get a little frightened at parts but soon recovered

As others have said it was very disappointing at the trafford centre. We were there for 9 and there was nothing there. I'd told the kids there would be fun stuff like when we went to Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2 a couple of years ago. It was a really long time to wait nearly 2 hours just for the film to start. They did appreciate the masks and popcorn. They keep running around with the masks shouting 'bleh bleh bleh. I also don't understand why we got 3D glasses, I thought I was going mad because I couldn't see anything in 3D.

Yes I would. It's a good family film and is entertaining to the adults and the kids. Definitely worth a watch over half term.

I went to the screening with my partner and our two boys aged 5 1/2 and 7.

The film was beautifully rendered and lovely to look at, with some awesome animation techniques (including the loose hair shaking off the head). The storyline was a bit holey and daft, but it worked. The message about tolerance of each other's differences was kind of lost because the child changed anyway, and what the heck with all the Sony branded products!! Overall it was a good film.

My 5 1/2 year old's favourite part was when the child became angry and changed. My 7 year old's favourite part was

My overall experience of the screening was pretty bad. We went to the Trafford Centre and as has already been stated, spent 73 minutes sat in the dark with our kids bored and frustrated when we should have been having 'fun in the foyer'. We were reminded several times to be there by 9.30 and that the doors would open at 9am. 3D was completely absent - and 3D is apparently brilliant in this film. It's hard not to be disappointed.
I would recommend Hotel Transylvania 2 because I liked the movie.

As others have mentioned it said to get there early for fun in the foyer, which meant we hung about doing nothing in our seats with a blank screen and the sound of trailers. fortunately mine are old enough to amuse themselves I really feel for those with younger children! My ds was incredibly disappointed that we were given 3d glasses when the film was in 2d - as he is autistic that overshadowed everything for him as he couldn't understand why they had given them out. The single person handing out popcorn said to ask for salted as it was all sweet, then didn't actually bring out any salted, so if you'd declined the sweet you got nothing! They left the lights down when it finished which made maneuvering my mobility scooter out just that little bit harder!
It felt totally disorganised and really took the shine off what should have been an ocassion. The only part that stood out as good was the easy disabled access.
From reading the other reviews it seems the activities were only in London!

Q2 Kid's thought it was very funny and better than the original movie - more action and adventure.

Q3 DD - Mavis and she liked when Dennis was thrown off the tower. DS - Dennis - when he finally got his fangs.

Q5 Screening was at Westfield, White City. Staff were friendly and sounds more organised than in Manchester (drink, popcorn and mask already on seat). The characters were a nice touch for the younger children, but playing some of the music from the film or maybe someone trying to get the kids excited - "Are you getting excited about the film - I said, are you getting excited about the film" etc. We didn't have to watch any trailers!

Good family film, some funny parts and a reasonable story that the children loved and wasn't too tedious for adults!

My son loved it when they all climbed on the mobilty scooter, his Grandad has one and he loves driving it with him! He also thought it was really funny when the jelly creature had a wee.

Q5. Overall, what was your experience like of the screening?
Like everyone else who went to the Trafford Centre we were very disappointed. We had an early start and were there for 9.15 and there was absolutely nothing to do. I asked one of the staff and he said someone hadn't turned up and his manager was trying to get hold of them. We sat in the cinema for ages and whilst my sons weren't too bad as they were older other children were getting very fed up. The poor lady handing out drinks had to go to each seat to hand them out as we had all been sat waiting for a good while. I presume if they had been more organised the popcorn and drinks would have been on the seats or handed out as we went into the cinema but it was really a bit of a shambles. After the long wait we then had to sit through around 20 minutes of trailers before the film started. I was looking forward to seeing the film in 3d but for some reason it was shown in 2d. The lady handing out drinks was very friendly and helpful and was outside handing out sweets at the end of the show which was nice.

I would recommend it, we all enjoyed the film and it was quite funny

As others have said at the Trafford centre it seemed pointless telling everyone to arrive for 9am just to stand there. It was also a bit annoying after I had bought drinks and popcorn as there seemed to be no snacks on the seats as was suggested then half an hour later popcorn and water is given out.

I would recommend as a family film as it gives a good message about not caring if someone is different (monster/human).

I actually really enjoyed this film (I had seen the first film also) I think it's a good family film, funny for both adults and children.

It was a great experience. (Sorry to hear the Trafford Centre wasn't so) it was well organised. We arrived early and there were three of the main characters dressed up milling around for photo opps. Once inside there were masks popcorn and drinks on each seat. Staff friendly. Great overall.

Q6. If it came up in conversation, would you recommend Hotel Transylvania
2 to friend and family? Why?

Yes, it's a great film for all the family.

Q1. Who did you attend the screening with – including the ages of your DC

DH and two DDs aged 6 and 3.

Q2. Your overall summary of the film

Good continuation of the story of the first film. Some genuinely funny moments for both kids and adults. Not the greatest story ever told, but a good bet for a half term outing.

Q3. What was your DC’s favourite part of the film? What was their favourite character?

They both found all the bits with Blobby in very funny. He was probably their favourite character, but DD1 also liked Mavis. They spent most of the afternoon chasing each other around being vampires and saying 'bleh bleh bleh!'

I would probably give it 3 stars, DC would give it 5.

Q5. Overall, what was your experience like of the screening?

Good - a nice cinema with very comfy seats and a good view for everybody. Thanks to rail replacement buses we arrived just before the film started so weren't sure if we missed any activities. As others have mentioned it could have done with some more interaction/excitement building - there was no music or anyone there to introduce the film. Both my DC have a bit of a fear of people in costumes, so they wanted nothing to do with the photo opportunity with the characters! DD2 was unsure about wearing the 3D glasses to start with, but I managed to persuade her and she happily kept them on through the film.

Q6. If it came up in conversation, would you recommend Hotel Transylvania 2 to friend and family? Why?

Yes - the film was lots of fun.

Q1. Attended with my DH, and DD aged 6.
Q2. The film was great. Very funny and sharp. Well written, and extremely engaging, with a nice message about acceptance of everyone.
Q3. DD's favourite part was when Dennis finally got his fangs. She also loved Dracs 'fang toothbrush' and asked where we could get one!
Q4. I would give it 4/5. DD gave it 5/5.
Q5. Despite getting the first train of the morning from our town, engineering works meant we didn't arrive at Westfield til about 10.15. We were told to go straight in, the cinema was quite full and the characters were milling around at the front. DD was a bit scared, but managed a wave at Mavis! Unfortunately, after walking up and down the aisle for a bit, it was obvious that that were no groups of 3 seats left, (or 2 seats for that matter). DH observed families who had clearly left empty seats between themselves and the family next door, but we didn't feel we could say anything. Luckily a very helpful Vue employee immediately arranged for us to go into another screening at 11am, and let us pick our seats, (I chose the comfy VIP ones!). He also gave us free popcorn and water - big thumbs up for him, unfortunately I didn't get his name. The screening at 11am was 2d, but my DD prefers that to 3d so no big deal. Cinema practically empty which was fab!
Q6. Yes I would recommend this film to anyone, unless I knew their kids were easily scared :-)

I went to the screening at the Trafford centre

Q1 I attended and oldest daughter so 2 adults , 4 children 2 11yrs old, 2 12 yrs old

Q2. The film was really family friendly and a great run up to Halloween. I think it would appeal to lots of different age groups, both young and old , even if you hadn't seen the first film it wouldn't matter as 2 of the children with me hadn't seen it but still enjoyed it .

Q3. My sons favourite part of the film was the learning to fly scene when Dennis was dropped from the tower by drac, he found that really funny.
The girls all like the scenes at the camp particularly the campfire songs.

Q4. I would give the film 4 stars , the DC two gave it 4 stars , two gave it 5 stars

Q5 I was delighted to be picked to attend the screening , not sure that it was a film we would of gone to the cinema to see otherwise as I was unsure if the children were to old for it , but all 4 enjoyed it , my son preferred it to the first film. As my children were all older the waiting around for the film to start wasn't a problem , they were expecting treats on the seats and we had a few minutes of disappointment . But the bottles of water and popcorn were an added bonus that we didn't expect . The ladies handing it out were very friendly and helpful , and even handed out sweets at the end of the film

Q6. I would highly recommend this film to friends and family a great family film for all ages , especially with Halloween just around the corner and would make a great treat at half term
