We are looking for MNers to take part in a Tesco Farm to Fork Trail with their DC(s).

Tesco says: ?In February, Farm to Fork Trails kick-started the launch of The Tesco Eat Happy Project. Since then, children from all across the UK have been on a trail in Tesco stores, exploring the freezer areas, baking bread rolls and even tasting stilton!"

"The Tesco Eat Happy Project is our long-term commitment to help children have a healthier and happier relationship with food. We believe that if children understand more about food and where it comes from, they can make better decisions about what they put on their plates when they grow up. We?d love for you and your child to join us on a Trail and have a new and exciting experience in your local Tesco store!?

"Farm to Fork Trails are free for children aged between 4 ? 11 years old and offer plenty of interactive, educational fun to help children understand where their food comes from. They get to smell, touch and taste their way through the intriguing world of food. The Farm to Fork Trails last for approximately two hours and are run by a specially trained Farm to Fork Trail Guides and the children learn all about different types of food and even try some new ones! Plus the trails are completely free."

Below are the dates and locations for the Farm to Fork Trails:

  • Leyton - Thursday 30th October at 11am - 1pm

825 High Road Leyton London Greater London E10 7AA

  • Padiham - Tuesday 28th October at 9:30 - 11:30am

Wyre Street Padiham Lancashire BB12 8DQ

  • Cambridge Newmarket Road - Monday 27th October at 10am - 12pm (NOW FULL)

Cheddars Lane Newmarket Road Cambridge Cambridgeshire CB5 8HE

We are looking for MNers to be able to take part in a Tesco Farm to Fork Trail with your child / children aged between 4 - 11 years old. You?ll receive a free goody bag at the end of your trail.

We will then ask you to report back on your experience to a thread on MN. Every attendee who adds their feedback will be entered into a prize draw where one winner will receive a £200 Tesco voucher.

Do they actually get to watch the animals being artificially slaughtered, having their babies taken away at birth, and have their throats slit?

Will Tesco be discussing how the price they pay for milk is affecting dairy farmers, or is it just about carrots and things that grow in the ground?

Are we talking Leyton East London, Angelie?

Would it be possible to give us some idea of exactly where these events are?

We would be travelling by public transport and although very interested in coming along would only realistically be able to do so if relatively easy to get to by bus/train and/or Tube (and walking!).

Thanks!

Both my children have attended these recently.

I'd like to report my feedback for a chance of a £200 voucher so I could take my kids somewhere that was REALLY educational....

Where is the feedback thread please?

Are you allowed to bring any other children along? My DS is 4 but his friends are 3.

Does the trail include information about food miles or the environmental impact of producing the vast amounts of out of season produce you sell?
And, farm??? Really??? You're going to pretend to the children that all the food you sell comes from some nice local farm?

Oh shit, are these all deprived areas? I didn't think of my area as deprived!

Sounds interesting. They're all far too far away for us unfortunately.

My children didn't learn anything educational at ALL.
Got plenty of Tesco marketing though Hmm

MNHQ - where is the feedback thread please so I can feedback their experience?

Well aren't we a bunch of miseries?

I'd love to go but the locations offered aren't local to me. I hope DS' school takes his year group, it sounds fun.

Not a 'misery' just someone with actual experience of the actual event - twice!

And it wasn't great at ALL.

And it's a hellish lazy 'school trip' too.

Ds went on the Tesco Experience with his school. His question was also milk price related and he was not given an explanation. The whole 'experience' was a Tesco marketing ploy aimed at children.
He did come home with a sticky doughnut - not exactly healthy.

I'll do misery if it is Tesco related! Your stores look like they need a good clean, your ethics are suss, no matter how sugary you coat them, food miles are questionable and to be honest, some of your prepacked meals are inedible, loaded with sugar and overpriced.

MindReader · 22/10/2014 13:16

Exactly figgy

  • my dd got to 'sprinkle sugar on doughnuts' and was sent home with a left over packet of easter chick cake decorations....

  • my son was very ill on his trip and not well attended to.

He 'got to see the inside of a walk in freezer' and came home with a doughnut too. He is 10. Hardly blardy educational.

Maybe okay for age 3/5 but still v heavy marketing.

Someone must be making money out of it, but it isn't for the kids benefit...

MNHQ Please could you confirm that this is suitable for an 11 year old (nearly 12). Sounds like it might be aimed more at younger children. I've applied but am a bit worried that it is not going to be pitched at the right level for him. Thanks

Aw my DC's are too young! Never mind, next time maybe.... I know someone who did a farm to fork trail following a sheep from it's farm through transport and slaughter to meat inspection. Very educational, everyone who eats meat should do it - hope this is of a similar standard.
