Teething can be a really stressful process for both baby and parent. Whether this is your first child and the upset that teething has caused your baby has come as a shock, or maybe you’ve helped several children through the journey and you know the best way to soothe their pain, Nurofen would like to hear your top tips for helping a teething baby through the process.

Here’s what Nurofen has to say: “Healthy kids are playful kids, but sometimes pain and illness can get in the way. Every child’s teething journey is different, and it can be hard to spot the signs and decide the right course of action to help your little one feel better. With this in mind, we’d like to learn more about the tips and tricks you use to help your child through teething pain and get back to feeling themselves.” *

Is your go-to for soothing your baby a special teething toy? Have your friends or family recommended a particular medication? Maybe your baby’s first few teeth came through with no discomfort or pain or perhaps it took a really long time for any teeth to appear at all? Did you find the perfect soother after reading advice on the internet? Or did you find that some extra cuddles got you and your baby through?

Share your teething journey on this thread and you will be entered into a prize draw where one lucky MNer will win a £200 voucher for a store of their choice (from a list).**

Thanks and good luck with the prize draw!

The only thing that ever helped my teething baby was anbesol liquid

Frozen fruit was the on thing that seemed to ease my DC. Slices of apple, mango, strawberry obviously only good when your small person is able to eat!

I'm going to echo frozen fruit too. That helped tons with DS.

With DD we got one of those teething toys which helped sometimes. I always find it's a bit hit and miss depending on the kid, so it might be something you want to try if all else fails.

With all the kids, I wanted to not use anything extra but just give extra cuddles and be there when needed. This worked for all of them except the last. No amount of cuddles worked and the only thing that seemed to do anything was one of those basic teething toys.

I actually got some advice from here and I can't quite remember what toy was recommended but after using it, it seemed to do the job.

A clean, moderately wet flannel in the fridge for a few minutes then given to baby to chew on/ rub gently on gums seemed to help a little

I learned some techniques when I did a baby massage course, at the time I didn't believe they would help but sure enough when my son in teething a little external massage around the jaw has helped settle him and ease his pain.

With my first DS he didn't struggle at all, he just smiled at me one morning and there was his first tooth!
However with my second DS (now 6months) he is finding it very painful, tiny amounts of anbesol liquid dabbed on his gums can help and either a teething toy designed to go in the fridge or toys designed for him to chew seem to ease it too!

I made breast milk lollies, they really helped. I guess they could also be done with formula or yoghurt too.

I made lollies from frozen fruit and breast milk which helped soothe, especially when the teeth first emerge

Someone suggested a carrot stick cold from the fridge but I was a bit worried about it being a choking hazard so I got one of the teething rings which seemed to help.

I found teething toys perfect and they're inexpensive.

I'm also going to echo teething toys. I think they're so readily available and it's so easy to get a hold of one.

My only saviour was making lolly's from greek yoghurt, banana & berries! Nothing else seemed to work like it!

My most successful teething tip that I ever used was giving my children a matchstick monkey with some baby Bonjela on, both my little ones loved these and they seemed to work. I also gave (and give) my children pain relief and had plenty of snuggles as I hate to think of them in pain without any comfort or relief.

Nurofen & anbesol. Also a cold flannel.

Letting him breastfeed on demand. Poor bubba.

Anbesol liquid for the gums and givining neurophen and calpol in-between each other helped my DD. I also bought a chew mit that goes over the babies hand so they can nibble on it. Also offering cold foods like cucumber from the fridge helps. Try them all to see which method is the best fit for your child.

Seems a long time since my little man was teething.. I remember those little red cheeks though! :( Lots of snuggles, cuddles & distraction through play seemed to help - as well as frozen banana pieces, cold cucumber, Nurofen &, when I could find them, Ashton & Parsons Teething Powders - amazing!

MySocalledLoaf · 28/04/2021 06:07

Alternating nurofen and calpol. I wouldn’t go through something that painful without medication and I didn’t expect my babies to either. Nothing else ever really helped.

Report
Asuwere · 28/04/2021 08:06

A mix of teething toys, cold damp flannel, Ashton & Parsons powders, cuddles and comfort breastfeeding.
