Keeping your children’s skin happy can be difficult, particularly during the winter months. With that in mind, La Roche Posay would like to hear about your skincare tips this winter.

Here’s what La Roche Posay has to say: “We know winter can be tough on the skin, especially for the little ones. Cold, windy weather outside combined with central heating and lack of humidity inside can weaken the protective layer of the skin, causing it to lose natural moisture. It is key to take extra care of your family’s sensitive skin and protect it during this time of the year. We would love to hear about your winter skin routine and how you keep your children’s skin soft and comfortable during these months.”

Do you have a winter skincare routine for your children? Perhaps you have tips on how to increase humidity in your child’s room or you keep an emergency moisturiser in your bag at all times? Does La-Roche-Posay feature on your family’s skincare routine?

Whether you have a ten step dedicated winter skincare routine or you’re the ‘moisturise and call it a day’ type, we want to hear all about it.

All who post on this thread will be entered into a prize draw where one lucky MNer will win a £200 voucher for a store of their choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck with the prize draw!

My daughter has a skin condition, so I always have to make sure her skin is hydrated no matter the weather. In the winter, she dries up more quickly so it just means I have to moisturize her skin more often. I tend to go for natural products as I find thats what her skin agrees with more.

I do have expensive moisturising habits, but that's only because my skin only feels healthy with the good stuff.

Part of my kids skincare routine involves not giving them showers/baths too often. Too much dries out their skin and they tend to get issues. Every other day works perfect.

My routine for the kids during the winter vs. the summer is the same, they just need to be moisturized more often.

I get the Burt's Bees lotion. My kids don't get a reaction from it, and for me it's not overpriced.

I always encourage the kids to wear gloves outdoors as the cold weather can cause their skin to get so dry. They tend to have fewer baths in the winter months (as we don't need to be washing off the dirt from playing in the park / sandpit / sunlotion etc) so I think that helps prevent stripping their skin of natural oils.
I also encourage them to moisturise their hands after each time they wash them as it is their hands and wrists that tend to get really dry skin and really sore.

We always use natural products as with his eczema we have to be really careful not to overload his skin with chemicals.

Baby lotion over arms and legs after bathing, keeping hydrated with regular drinks. And as we are using hand sanitiser much more, a gentle hand cream rubbed in - especially between the fingers.

We don't do anything particular in the winter, just keep up a good routine all year round with cleansing and moisturising

Baby oil in the bath, and a very gentle moisturiser on hands legs and face. I know that dehydration is a key to hydration, so I offer drinks and yoghurts throughout the day to keep body and skin hydrated.

Limit number of baths when flare ups happen; soft clothes wherever possible and moisturise day and night particularly irritated areas. When he was younger I would moisturise his whole body a couple times a week but we all have dry skin here!

DD unfortunately gets her skin issues from me and I've found that I can't use perfumed lotions on her skin or she reacts badly, so I do buy high end brands as that's what her skin agrees with.

I know some parents like giving their kids showers or baths every day, however I feel like sometimes that's what contributes to skin conditions. I limit the number of baths I give. In the winter, I do hydrate their skin more often, but that's in terms of moisturising.

For me, nothing changes the routine, regardless of season. I like using natural products on the kids, but that's just my personal preference.

Report
Asuwere · 18/01/2021 16:09

I don't think we do anything different based on the season, we just moisturise as necessary.

We definitely moisturise more in the winter, especially after bathing. A good emollient is necessary for my son to keep his skin hydrated during the cold weather, not forgetting a good lip bam too.

Report
MParke · 18/01/2021 19:19

I think the main thing for us is the lips as the kids tend to get cracked lips if not hydrated properly. In the winter, obviously it's worse due to the cold.

The only additional things I do in the winter for the kids is moisturise their hands more. They wash them alot so it dries out more. The same with their feet.

I love la Roche Posay Gaulle for their little cheeks so they don't get chapped in the cold.

I use Burt's Bees on my daughter's skin every night before bed as it's the only thing that works for her.

Showers rather than baths helps my childs skin stay hydrated and using Lush preservative free Dream cream has really made a big difference to my dry itchy child. She has no issues as long as we keep up this routine.

My LG gets a dab of breastmilk on her dry patches- works a treat!
I also put the raincover over her pram on those really bitter cold and windy days even if there is no rain... it keeps her cosy but does wonders for stopping her cheeks and lips getting all dry and chapped!

Showers everyday and bath once a week but we don't use anything too harsh and daily showers are just a quick 5 mins. Moisturise twice a day, encourage drinking. plenty of water

Whilst I use moisturiser on my face all year round I don't particularly use anything on the children in winter. They spend most of the day running round outside and seem fine with it

My eldest has quite bad eczema. It gets worse with sudden changes in temperature so we try to keep him as moisturised as we can especially when we know there's going to be a drop in the temperature.
