When you’re wrapped up in the hustle and bustle of everyday life, stains around the house seem to appear out of the blue and just thinking about how best to remove them can give you a headache. Crown’s easyclean matt emulsion paint is 200-times tougher and more washable than standard matt emulsion, so you can keep your home looking better for longer, and can easily be wiped clean without damaging the look of your finished paintwork. With this in mind, Crown would like to hear how you tackle removing stains around the house.

Here’s what Crown has to say: “We are delighted to have been awarded the Mumsnet Rated badge for our easyclean® range, and to have been given such great feedback from the Mumsnet community. We are extremely proud of easyclean®, which is our toughest and most washable paint range yet, and we are over the moon that the Mumsnet testers loved it as much as we do!”

Have the walls of your house fallen victim to the wrath of a felt tip pen, an overzealous spaghetti dinner or a lipstick makeover gone wrong? How did you remove these stains so that the walls look as good as new? Perhaps in a moment of desperation you’ve considered that repainting the wall would be easier than tackling the clean-up? Have you reluctantly poured white wine onto a red wine spill on your new cream carpet? What’s your top tip for removing stains that you would share with other parents?

Whether you’re the first to grab your go-to stain remover or you’re busy googling where to start, share your tips on this thread and you’ll be entered into a prize draw where one lucky MNer will win a £100 voucher for a store of their choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck with the prize draw!

Answer is in the question! My whole house is painted with washable and wipeable paint - no more stains!

One of those white 'magic' sponges is great for getting scuffs and marks off walls and doors. They are made of a foam tyre material and you just dampen them and wipe - they are amazing and get rid of a lot of stains!

Wipeable paint is a lifesaver in a family home. Dark coloured carpets are also a must. The magic Sticky-Stuff remover is always under the sink and white vinegar works wonders in bathrooms.

Wipeable paint, going forward as we re-decorate this is our way forward.

Magic sponge, sticky stuff remover and Dr Beckman carpet cleaner are always under my sink.
Act fast and google the best method.
I managed to get argan oil out of the bedroom carpet by smothering it in bicarb, leaving it overnight and hoovering it up. It was like a miracle

I've always gone for wipeable paint, microfibre cloth usually does the job but for stubborn marks I use a magic eraser. If it's in the DC's rooms and I can't get a mark off, then a sticker covers the issue :)

Yes to wipeable paint!
We don't have it on all our walls and you can tell which ones!!!
Grubby finger marks mainly but also pen and sticker marks... we try not to look too close!

Heavily diluted cif on walls. Incredible

Just light patting on carpet and then water

Wipeable paint, definitely. After we've decorated we usually decant some leftover paint into clean jam jars, then label with the colour and room. This makes it really easy for touch-ups when all stain-removal efforts have failed.
Fairy liquid is used on clothes and fabrics, seems to get most stains out.

To cover up felt pen I have tried to paint over the marks with emulsion, without success. I found that there is a specialized product for this purpose - I got a small tin from B & Q which has been invaluable for a home with young children. It goes on white and can easily be painted over. Problem solved Smile

I find fairy liquid removes anything greasy from my wipe clean paint! Hate scrubbing walls though Grin

I once heard that saliva works well for blood stains! Weird but does seem to have some truth in it - I have tried it on my own clothes / own blood if I've had a small cut that could have potentially stained my clothes.
We use sticky stuff remover for some stains - even if it's not something "sticky" - seems to work well on hard surfaces. WD40 can have a similar effect too.
Other than that, act quickly and use detergent if you have any to hand. e.g. wipe walls with wet cloth and washing up liquid. We have the wipeable crown paint in some areas and it does make a difference.

Too many stains to even count in our house. First thing to do is take immediate action, soak up the spill first, then using a hot wash cloth use that to pull out as much of the spill as possible.

Use wipeable paint wherever possible. Fairy liquid on a cloth for some stains, if that doesn't work, then magic sponge. On clothes, neat fairy liquid, or liquid Persil, then wash with a scoop of Vanish in the wash. Spilt red wine - soak up as much as possible with a bit of old towel, then Vanish foam.

Salt is great for getting blood stains out of fabrics.
My go to stain remover for most surfaces are own brand supermarket baby wipes. I still buy them in bulk even though our kids are all grown up now.

Definitely using tough paints! The durable versions are so much easier to clean! Also magic sponges work great on your skirting boards for scuffs that won’t come off

"Pink Stuff" and an Elbow Grease sponge gets nearly everything off, milk for ink, for the floors bicarbonate of soda and white vinegar is brilliant

Magic erasers are my lifesaver for every stain on the walls. They thoroughly deserve the magic they give in their title!
I havent met a stain yet that these little white things cant defeat!

Fabric wise, i am also madly in love with Dr Beckmann Carpet Cleaner. Jeez, these are great for cleaning stain on car seats and your rugs and carpets! Magic aswell xx

Wipeable paint and stain free carpet for the win. With 2 boys under 7 we get many a spill so have vinyl flooring in dining room which works great too.

Found a tub of Pink Stuff in a pound shop - seems pretty good. Other than that am always using Vanish or Oxy something on myriad fabric stains.

We've had so many stains. Three kids and 5 different houses and that's just lre teenage years. Best (or worst!) stain was child number 1 colouring the radiator with wax crayons. It was coated in wax and took some effort to get it back. It was always slightly pink after that.

I recently discovered sugar soap. My kitchen walls near the dining area and beside the worktop where I do all the baking/mixing were really splattered. The areas came up brilliantly with sugar soap as did the kitchen cupboards!
