This sponsored discussion is now closed. Thank you to everyone who took part.

Baking can be a fun way to challenge yourself, spend time with your children, and impress everyone at the birthday party. But baking could also be an inspired way to support a worthy cause.

As an Official Sponsor of this year’s Macmillan Coffee Morning, Betty Crocker is inviting you to rise to the occasion and whip up some support for Macmillan’s campaign to help people living with cancer. Regardless of your baking skills, Betty Crocker could help you whip up beautiful and delicious cakes*. That’s why, Betty Crocker would love you to share a picture of the bakes that you’ve made with your family in support of <a class="break-all" href="https://coffee.macmillan.org.uk/?utm_source=www.mumsnet.com/&utm_medium=partner%20&utm_campaign=b_c_partner_wbcm_signup&utm_content=b_c_mumsnet_sponsoreddiscussion" rel="nofollow noindex" target="_blank">Macmillan’s Coffee Morning.

Here’s what Betty Crocker has to say: “This year, Betty Crocker and Macmillan Cancer Support have joined forces to encourage the nation to do whatever it takes to get involved with Macmillan Coffee Morning 2020.

Due to the coronavirus pandemic, Macmillan needs your support now more than ever to enable to them to continue to provide vital support for people living with and affected by cancer in the UK. Betty Crocker is an Official Sponsor of Macmillan’s Coffee Morning happening this September and you can help too.

The official date for Macmillan’s Coffee Morning is Friday 25 September, but you can take part whenever suits you best. This could be by setting up a virtual Coffee Morning online, hosting a socially distanced Coffee Morning safely from your doorstep or by taking on an exciting new challenge altogether. For more information on how to take part in Macmillan’s Coffee Morning, visit <a class="break-all" href="https://coffee.macmillan.org.uk/?utm_source=www.mumsnet.com/&utm_medium=partner%20&utm_campaign=b_c_partner_wbcm_signup&utm_content=b_c_mumsnet_sponsoreddiscussion" rel="nofollow noindex" target="_blank">their website.”

Whether you prefer to keep it simple and use a Betty Crocker cake mix, follow an old family recipe passed down through the generations or use the cake ideas in the <a class="break-all" href="https://coffee.macmillan.org.uk/?utm_source=www.mumsnet.com/&utm_medium=partner%20&utm_campaign=b_c_partner_wbcm_signup&utm_content=b_c_mumsnet_sponsoreddiscussion" rel="nofollow noindex" target="_blank">Macmillan Coffee Morning fundraising kit, take a picture of the cake or bake that you have made with your family and post it on this thread.

We'd love to see as many Mumsnetter bakes as possible, so get that apron on and your oven pre-heating. We’ll be randomly selecting one lucky MNer who posts a picture of their beautiful bake on this thread to win a £100 voucher for a store of your choice (from a list), organised and provided by Mumsnet. The closing date of this prize draw is 25th September 2020.

Thanks and good luck!

These are rather flat rock cakes - my son made them and was chuffed to bits with them. Tasted great anyway!

Toffee cake with lurid marzipan shapes made with DCs 2 and 5. Quite tasty even if DC2 will only eat the marzipan.

DD always insists on a Pavlova for her birthday. Nigella Lawson’s recipe from How to Eat works a treat, although it’s not the most elegant bake.

This actually looked a lot better in real life - didn't get a really good photo of it.

Betty Crocker Vanilla sponge mix and vanilla cream icing with chocolate balls from Aldi and mini marshmallows. Tasted great!

My 2 year old and 4 year old enjoyed helping make the mixture and being the official tasters.

These are the ingredients for a Betty Crocker Vanilla cake:

Sugar, Wheat Flour, Palm Fat, Raising Agents: Monocalcium Phosphate, Sodium Bicarbonate, Modified Corn Starch, Corn Starch, Emulsifiers: Propane-1, 2-Diol Esters of Fatty Acids, Mono- and Diglycerides of Fatty Acids, Sodium Stearoyl-2-Lactylate, Dextrose, Salt, Flavouring, Stabiliser: Xanthan Gum.

No idea what half of those ingredients are and I only eat food I can recognise.

These are the ingredients for a home made Victoria sponge cake:

Butter, Sugar, Eggs, Self Raising Flour, Vanilla Extract.

Both take a similar amount of time to prep and bake and you have to add oil and eggs to the BC mix. I don't get it.
