This sponsored discussion is now closed.

The way parents and schools think about the contents of children’s lunchboxes has changed over the years, but the excitement of realising mum or dad has given you a favourite treat remains the same. With that in mind, Soreen would like to hear about the school packed lunch inclusions you fondly remember from your childhood.

Here’s what Soreen has to say: “We all want our children to enjoy their school packed lunch and feel full and energised for the afternoon of learning ahead.

But we know it can be tricky finding that sweet spot– those healthier lunchbox items that you’re happy to give your children but which won’t come home in the lunchbox untouched! Then there are the school food guidelines to think about too!

That’s why we’re introducing Soreen Lunchbox Loaves, the healthier snack that is squidgy and delicious. Each individually wrapped mini loaf contains a source of fibre and is low in saturated fat. They also contain over 50% less sugar and 70% less fat than the average cake bar and are available in 4 deliciously fruity flavours – banana, apple, malt and strawberry. Not forgetting that they’re nut free and suitable for vegetarian diets.

Plus Soreen Lunchbox Loaves are school compliant so will keep the teachers happy too!“

Perhaps you remember homemade treats making you smile? Maybe a slice of malt loaf brightened up your lunchtime? Is there anything you had for school packed lunch that you give to your children today?

Whatever the school lunchbox items you remember being your favourites when you were a child, share them on the thread below to be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £100 voucher for the store of their choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck!

I had school packed lunches which were the same just about every day which I hated so I hope to have a good wide range of things in my daughter's lunchbox so she never knows what to expect.

I am showing my age, but I used to love the ET biscuits!

They came in packs of 3 in bright colours, full of e-numbers but, best of all they had photos from ET on a little card inside.

It was always a treat when I had them in my lunch box

I loved a picnic. Crackers, cubes of cheese, slices of meat, pretzels, raisins and some nuts (when they were allowed in the good old days.)

I've just ordered screen lunchbox loaves for this week's packed lunches. We also love individual cheese portions, wraps and candyfloss grapes.

I used to love cheese and pineapple on sticks and little puff pastry cheese and marmite spirals.
My favourite sandwich used to be picked cucumber on brown bread with butter - my grandmother used to pickle the cucumber overnight - was so delicious!

I vividly remember taking a packed lunch for the first time. Infants were not allowed packed lunches at my school, so going into the juniors, I couldn't wait to take in my Muppets lunchbox, filled with hard boiled egg salad sandwiches, cheese and onion crisps, a Lakeland creameries banana yogurt, and a mint Club biscuit. I don't think we were allowed to take in drinks as I recall jugs of water on each table.

Sounds rank now but tuna paste sarnies with crisps - yum (I hasten to add yum at the time, I think my palate has matured!!)

School packed lunches when we were kids in the 1980s were sandwiches - often peanut butter, so that wouldn’t be allowed nowadays. My mum would make enough for the week and freeze them and they would slowly defrost over the course of the morning. We generally had Mighty White bread as a nod to health.
We also had fruit, crisps (EVERY DAY! YIKES!) and something else. This was sometimes a Club or a Penguin or, and this is true, a lovely slice of buttered malt loaf.
Nowadays, I faff around with crudités and wraps and rice cakes, but a welcome constant is a bit of Soreen. We like the bananary one at the moment.

When I look back on my school lunch boxes I realise how unhealthy they were!! Usually a sandwich (e.g. spam or ham), crisps & a KitKat. Don't think any fruit or veg were included!
I think I pretty much had the same every day too.

It was my Mum’s homemade banana bread that I enjoyed most in my lunch. It was such a treat when we got a slice.

I used to love a cucumber sandwich! I don't remember getting any treats, just sandwich, fruit and occasionally crisps. I give my kids pretty much the same. :)

Boiled eggs (I was that kid!) Tracker bars and a buttered slice of malt loaf. All were a surprise treat in my lunch box!

Mums homemade cake. Cheese and pickle sandwiches. Don't think I ever had crisps or chocolate ever! In the 70s I don't think any friends did either.
Drink was squash in a plastic beaker with a lid which always leaked

Home made egg mayonnaise sandwiches were a special treat for me, usually because it required more than slapping a bit of ham in a piece of bread!
