This sponsored discussion is now closed. Thank you to everyone who shared their stories below.

We've all experienced that sinking feeling when you open the washing machine door and realise all is not as it should be, which is why Cushelle have created new Facial Tissues - designed to not fall apart in the wash. Beyond just a rogue tissue, Cushelle want to know - what's accidentally made it into your machine and ruined the whole load?

Here’s what Cushelle has to say: “Cushelle, the irresistibly cushiony soft toilet tissue brand, has launched facial tissues for colds, hay fever and messy kids! Cushelle Facial Tissues are soft, strong and also washing machine resistant, meaning they won’t break up in the wash if accidentally left in a pocket.”

Have you realised a phone or wallet was inside the machine when it was too late because of unemptied pockets? Or maybe you’ve followed cliche and accidentally washed a new red shirt along with the whites, leaving you embracing a new found love for pink? Whether it was some spare change, a felt tip pen, or your monthly train ticket that ended up in your wash, Cushelle want to hear your stories below.

All who share their stories on this thread will be entered into a prize draw where one lucky MNer will win a £300 voucher for a store of their choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck!

Definitely a phone. Not an old one either! That was a sinking moment but you live and learn. Now every item gets a thorough check!

iPod and Airpods in the washing machine...
Bank card in the wash and then the tumble drier - the bank card melted out of shape and the raised numbers flattened out.
And the usual tissue or bits of paper that get transferred to EVERYTHING. And new purple bedding that my husband put in with my brand new cream Animal hoody. That didn't end well.
But I can also tell you that the new plastic money doesn't like being tumble dried.

£100 in £10 notes. Pegged it out in the bathroom on my sock airer once it was finished.

Washed and tumble dried one of the kids £75 specially moulded sports mouthguard. That they had left in their pocket. I also had to pony out £45 for a replacement pair of PE trousers. Youll be surprised what a mess melted rubber makes.

A beautiful pink lambswool dress from JoJoMamanBebe belonging to my daughter. Didn't look at the instructions properly & washed it on normal 40 degrees. It came out doll sized. 😑🤦‍♀️

You know those 90s handbags that were made of different colours of straw? In my youth and inexperience I put one of those in on the 60 degree cotton cycle 😩 yes that went exactly as you would imagine😁

Blue Tac.

DS collects up any stray bits he finds because he likes fiddling with it and he put quite a sizeable lump into his pocket which I forgot to take out before washing. It was everywhere. The inside of the drum looked like I'd liquidated a Smurf.

I also once accidentally washed a turd but we don't talk about that.

DD's bright pink top with DS' white school shirts... in my defence it wasn't me who put the top in the 'lights' basket!

Lesson to self - check my son's pockets before putting his uniform in the wash - when you hear the dim thud of an Iphone on a synthetics wash, you can never unhear it. Sad

Definitely pulling out my OH's CASHMERE jumper out of a synthetics wash - it would have fit my 7 year old perfectly. But I had warned him before that I don't always spot the 'good stuff' from the uniform. Shock

@LucyBMumsnet "Cushelle Facial Tissues are soft, strong and also washing machine resistant, meaning they won’t break up in the wash if accidentally left in a pocket.”

Does this also mean they aren't flushable?
Wouldn't be impressed at all if that was the case.

Has to be washing a tissue with the school uniform, bits of white EVERYWHERE the school jumper and black trousers looked terrible -- after another wash and some sticky tape to remove the bits left on - the clothes were wearable again. - note to self - check the pockets, and avoid the snowstorm clothing

Not sure it counts as disastrous but putting a full bottle of shower gel (mixed in with DH's sports kit) into the wash didn't go well.

Bubbles like you've never seen and for weeks the smell of 'Nivea for Men' transferred to everything.

I am so glad here have been no posts about small animals - I always check my washing machine for my cat - but she's scared of it, so it's a precaution. I now check all of the pockets of my family after washing a a glue glitter pen DD2 had in her pocket from art class - we had jazzy clothing that day.

Although - mobile phone earphones, a USB stick and bank card survived a cotton wash Smile

A couple of years ago I discovered the back of my wardrobe had got damp and many of my dresses/clothes had got damp and some were mouldy Shock so I shoved as much as I possibly could in the washing machine (it’s a massive 12kg machine so that’s a lot of stuff) to get it clean and dry. When I opened the machine I discovered I had accidentally included my dark denim shorts which had leaked indigo dye on everything. And not just a uniform colour change, it was blotchy on the stuff it had dyed so couldn’t even be worn with a new dyed colour. I had to get rid of over half my work wardrobe because it just got totally ruined 😩. I still get annoyed with myself about it 2 years later!
