From snuggling on the sofa and watching a film, to reading your child a book before they go to bed, the home captures hundreds of small moments in day-to-day life that often bring a lot of joy. With the Christmas season coming up, it’s these kinds of moments that play an important part in the festivities, whether it be making mince pies in the kitchen, or ceremoniously putting the star on top of the tree. With this in mind, IKEA want to hear your favourite family moments in the home, and what makes them special.

Love putting the Christmas tree up on 1st Dec. 2 year old will be able to help this year and join in traditions. Have a lovely toy nativity for her to play with and understand story. I love winter evenings, matching pyjamas and hot drinks in favourite cups

My best moments are the individual time with each DC; either snuggled together on their bed reading a story or under a blanket on the sofa watching an episode of a favourite show.
As a whole family, it's probably sitting round the table playing a game - doesn't happen as often now as teen DC don't always want to join in so makes it even more special when we are all taking part.

A family tradition evolved of opening birthday presents early in the morning on our bed, this has carried on and is a lovely moment of just our family celebrating each other's special days. We also mark the children's heights on the door frame to their playroom and this is a very nostalgic thing to look at, especially as they are now nearly as tall as me!

My favourite moments at home have taken place on my sofa (and yes, it's a very comfy ikea sofa ). Chatting, laughing, crying, gossiping, consoling, congratulating, with family, friends, neighbours. My sofa is the hub of interaction in my home!

The heart of our home is our kitchen. We have spent SO many hours playing board games on the kitchen table. As our children have got older the games have changed but we all still really enjoy it, and they're in their late teens and early twenties now. The beauty of spending leisure time in the kitchen is that you can cook at the same time. I don't want to be one of these demanding mums as my children grow up and leave home, but I do hope however old they all get they'll still come home for a Sunday lunch and games afternoon once in a while.

Since we moved our son into his own room, my favourite moments is watching him play in there as we prepare to read a book in the spare bed in there, turning on the fairy lights, and then cuddling as we read books and sing songs.

I love a Friday night - always have!! Schools finished, works done for the week and it’s time to chill out and relax.
We have a family games night about once a month where we all sit around the IKEA table that’s over 20 years old on the chairs that are the same age but have been recovered and quarrel and cheat our way through a board game or 2! It’s changed over the years from letting the kids win to trying hard to beat them!
Saturday night tends to be a Cosy night on the sofa snuggled under a blanket watching trashy tv. Love these nights though. Family times change as the kids grow up but the fundamentals are still there - togetherness and laughter.

Unpacking the Christmas decorations and the memories behind each one. We have a ‘world’ tree with decorations from every country we have been to so many memories of holidays. Even better are the homemade decorations, many from primary school days that however homespun or tatty are got out and placed around the house. The antique Father Christmas in blue robes from before red was used. All loved old friends who we enjoy reacquainting ourselves with.

My favourite family moment is when I'm pottering making tea and the kids are sat at the table colouring and drawing and telling me all about their day. Having a family kitchen/diner is perfect for us and I feel it maximises time spent together as i can still chat and play with the kids while cooking.

We have a big open living room / dining room where everything happens. My favourite moments are closing the curtains, lighting candles and all snuggling up on the sofa with blankets (not forgetting dcat1 and dcat2 curled up on our laps). We usually watch a film or listen to music. It's completely perfect and our most favourite thing to do, especially in winter! It helps us forget about everyday stresses and it's nice to just slow down for a couple of hours.

Years ago I had all 3 children off school poorly, it was close to Christmas and it was a truly draining time .... anyway one afternoon I put all 6 of the dining room chairs together,covered them in throws so in your wildest imagination you were in a sleigh,shut the curtains lit loads of candles and turned the lights off and we all sat on the chairs/sleigh in our pjs and dressing gowns with a skipping rope around the table leg (reindeer) singing Christmas songs ..... it was a fab if slightly crazy afternoon that my sons now 26,24 and 19 still remember!!

I love that where ever we are, I needed to move a lot when the DC were young, home is the place where we sit around the table and chat over a meal, where we encourage the children to try a whole variety of foods and they enlighten us with their experiences of life outside the home.
My eldest (of three) is Autistic and youngest has social communication disorder so their views of the world and take on life is a real eye opener.

My youngest recently had us in stitches expressing her frustration with shop names like why Selfridges don't Sell Fridges, Boots don't sell boots and don't even get her started on Currys!

On rainy days we throw blankets and cushions on the floor and see how far we can get without touching the flooring. The dining table gets blankets thrown over it and we turn it into an den, the youngest is now eight and eldest 16 so these days are passing us by.

My most recent accidental discovery is the magical thing that happens when the family are all mysteriously a bit quiet and the internet accidentally gets turned off. Suddenly it's drinks and biscuits with everyone congrgating at the table.

My favourite part of the day is reading a book in bed before bed time. In the lead up to Christmas we’ll be going Christmas classics featuring The Taylor of Gloucester. Hoping to get some nice twinkly bits and maybe some Christmassy bed covers for the DC bedrooms to set the scene a bit more this year.

I really like Friday evenings. Everything is more chilled knowing there is no school or work the next day. We all play games together - current dd fave is snap with all of the leftover Sainsbury's heroes cards. Also a great day for a Disney movie night instead of the normal bed time.
