Everyone needs a little boost now and then. We all have those frantically busy days - whether at work, at home taking care of the kids or just rushing around trying to keep all those proverbial plates spinning – and it’s easy to forget how to keep yourself well nourished and energised. Not only can making better nutritional choices help keep you energised, but also little emotional boosts such as listening to your favourite song can also have a huge effect on how we handle life’s demands and whatever the day throws at us! With that in mind Nairn’s would really like to know what gives you an energy boost?

Here’s what Nairn’s have to say: “Nairn’s are all about ‘grabbing life by the oats’ and over the next few weeks we’ll be bringing you some exclusive, energising tips - we’d like to think it’s a pretty good fit considering just how naturally energising oats can be for you. You’ll find interviews with our inspiring and energetic ambassadors, expert advice from our resident nutritional therapist and loads more over on our website.

So, if you’ve got a go-to snack or energising habit that you swear by to keep you up and running, why not share it with the community? You could be lucky enough to win a hamper of incredible goodies from Nairn’s and friends, worth £150!”

What part of the day are you most likely to feel the need for an energy boost? What are the danger signs that your child’s energy is flagging? What foods or snacks do you give them to stop them getting ‘hangry’?! Do you get an energy boost from having a bit of family time? Maybe you get a boost from listening to your favourite playlist on your way to work? Would you say that exercise is what helps give you a boost? And if so what snacks do you eat to make sure you keep your energy going after exercise? What are your favourite breakfasts and lunches that help keep you going for the day? And what foods do you avoid that make you ‘crash’? How do you incorporate oats into your diet?

Whatever gives you an energy boost, share them on the thread below and you’ll be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a Nairn’s hamper worth £150 and one MNer will win a £300 voucher of their choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck!

It depends on the circumstances - I'm pregnant right now, and if I feel out of energy a single haribo perks me up.
I'm generally quite active and I find that the more active I am the less I need an energy pick me up. If I do feel hungry in between meals I would likely have a banana or maybe oatcakes.
For DS, its obvious when he is out of fuel. My rotation of snacks for him are things like fruit, mini cheddars, toast, cheese cubes.

I know I should say something super-healthy but I'd say a Pepsi-Max blush

A nap in the afternoon.

A home made banana and blueberry smoothie.

Remembering to drink enough water.

Biscuits and cheese - oatcakes and cheese are nice.

I'm sorry but we do not buy Nairn's oatcakes. We bought the fine oatcakes and they have a strange aftertaste that's almost fishy

Peanut butter on oatcakes is my absolute fab I find it keeps me going for ages and its pretty tasty too. I also often grab a banana as this gets me going again pretty quickly and digests quickly if I am rushing around.

Intermittent fasting works for me, and eating plenty of fruit

A 10-15 min nap on an afternoon

I have a bowl of porridge most mornings which helps keep energy levels up. Fruit as a snack for my toddler & coffee for me gets us through

I always end up flagging at around 3pm in the office - I keep fruit and nuts on hand to boost my energy. Also, a nice mug of coffee helps!

Going for a walk first thing in the morning. No matter the weather, I leave my phone (and the family!) behind. It really gets me ready for the day ahead!

Seeing the sun shine and getting energy from its warmth.

Oatcakes with either hummus or peanut butter are amazing as an afternoon snack and energy booster. Three years ago I lost nearly three stones to get back to my pre child bearing weight (12 years after youngest was born!) but as I also hit an early menopause at the same time I found that keeping it off meant existing on two pretty small, measly meals a day. Then I was given a low GL diet book. I don't in any way follow it to the letter- mainly as I don't need to lose weight, I just want to keep it off. But I keep the basic principles in mind and I love my oatcake afternoon snacks!

has to be a coffee first thing

Getting on the bike and going for a cycle or anything active keeps me going. A good rock concert pumps me up too. Hail Hail Rock & Roll.

Oatcakes at lunch time either with some cheese and fruit or with a bowl of homemade soup definitely help me keep going in the afternoon.

Taking Vitamin C supplements give me a boost. They make me feel brighter and energetic and I also eat less when I'm takingbthem and have less cravings throughout the day.
