Doing the laundry can be a messy task - whether that’s getting rid of your children’s unexplained stains or dealing with the piles and piles of clean clothes when you’re done. Who would blame you for dreaming about the kind of space that could make it all seem a bit more manageable. With that in mind, Fairy Non Bio would like to hear about what would be in your dream laundry room.

Sighs wistfully. A laundry room that doesn't double up as a dog room cum boot room / garage overflow / bird food store. Muddy boots and muddy dogs will be banished.

The room will be clean, decorated in cool neutral colours, and will have a worktop long enough to sort and fold laundry. It will smell clean and fresh. And not of wet dog.

I'll keep my current stainless steel sink, but double the length of the worktop and have shelves above to keep laundry supplies and the iron. I will have room to store the ironing board, so that it doesn't live next to the fridge in the kitchen. I won't have to move a dog to load the washing machine, and wont have to worry about dropping socks into a dog bed.

I love my dogs. They don't mix with laundry though!

Definitely more counter space - room for a basket for everyone in the house. Then as I take clothes out of the dryer, they’d go straight into the relevant persons basket for them to put away. I know my teens would end up using the basket like a wardrobe though but, hey it’s a nice idea in principle,

And 5e laundry room would be in some soundproofed room upstairs - no lugging dirty washing downstairs only to take it back upstairs to put it away,

My dream laundry room would be large and be on the first floor. It would have a TV to watch whilst I am ironing and a spacious drying cupboard.
All the cupboards would be made to measure with no handles and everything would be hidden inside the cupboards. There would be loads of gorgeous linen sprays to choose from.
I would have two washing machines and I'd try Miele. Heaven!

I am lucky enough to have a laundry room, however it is currently a dumping ground for coats, kids toys, cat bowls, freezer. When -if- we get around to doing it up, I'm going to have a washing machine, tumble dryer, dryer racks screwed to the wall, cupboards for all the cleaning stuff, hooks along one wall for brushes and mops etc. It will have plenty of worktop space for folding clothes. Functional and simple.

Laundry chutes from upstairs straight into the laundry baskets. Three chutes into three baskets: lights, darks, colours.

An open wardrobe with just a hanging rail. Everything that needs ironing goes on a hanger on the rail. You want something ironed - you iron it.

It would be upstairs (I hate lugging the dirty washing downstairs, then back up once its clean).
There would be 4 very tasteful washing baskets (lights, darks, woollens, special washes/hand wash etc).
There would be a large washing machine & large tumble dryer & some sort of drying cabinet for the few bits that don't get tumble dried.
I would have a small bit of worktop for folding the dried washing.
There would be a basket(obviously tasteful) for each member of the family, so the washing could be sorted as it comes out the dryer.
I guess I would need an ironing board & iron somewhere in there, but I would prefer the room to have some sort of magical powers, that magics all the creases away.
The room would be all white, with everything hidden away, except maybe a few colour co-ordinated accessories.
Oh and my very tasteful baskets would have pretty labels, with names written in chalk (by someone else as my handwriting is not tasteful enough)

I would LOVE a laundry chute from each bedroom, which lands in the laundry room downstairs!

It would have a cupboard with a washer and a dryer, and space for an ironing board and somewhere to hang ironed clothes.

Mine would contain a large comfy sofa, a well stocked bookcase, lots of chocolate biscuits and, (I cannot stress this enough) NO BLOODY LAUNDRY.

I actually have designed my perfect utility room when I designed my dream house that we'll never be able to afford. IIRC, it has a total of 6 units in a line. At either end the units are full height, one with washing machine & tumble dryer stacked on top of each other but both raised a little so there's limited bending to do. The other end is a tall cupboard for the ironing board that will never be used but I feel I should have anyway & a broom/mop. The 4 units in the middle will store various cleaning supplies, collapsible crates for sorting the laundry & outside things like bird seed. Above them is one of those beautiful wooden airers that's suspended so I can lower it to put things on & raise it out of the way. There'll also be a sink in there for soaking laundry & any non-food-related cleaning that needs doing. The opposite wall is mostly windows but not full height - below them is a long bench with boot storage. It's insane how much thought I've given this, what with how I barely do any cleaning as it is & DH does most of the laundry!

I would just love a laundry room. Somewhere bright and airy. With folding space and a sparkly new washer and tumble dryer. Where I can get out to the washing line in my bright and low maintainence garden.
What I actually have, is a tumble dryer perched at the cellar steps where I am at constant risk from falling spiders and a washing machine that is under the kitchen counter and constantly shakes off and smashes dishes.

Huge tumble dryer.

Extra large sturdy ironing board with steam iron.

Lots of space for free standing airers and plenty of ventilation to prevent mould. A separate dryer and washer, never a washer-dryer!

Stacked washing machine and tumble dryer, two drying cupboards with a dehumidifier in - one for hanging stuff, one where knits can go flat or for small bits, permanent ironing board setup, unit with rails which big baskets slide in so there is one each plus a bedding/towels one and you can put everything straight in.

Of course, in my actual dreams, someone else does all the bloomin laundry!

In mine I would a lot of cupboards, so one I can hid the washing machine and tumble dryer in. And then one with holes in the top to drop darks and lights then I have to just empty them into the washing machine. A place for all my washing liquid etc a home for the ironing board and iron.

I wouldn't be fussed about it being tidy as nobody would really see it. Definitely has to be a separate washer and dryer as both are on pretty much constantly in this house. I would have a separate basket for each persons laundry. Pull down airer on the wall for things that can't be tumble dried
