Slice hot cross buns in half and dip in a mixture of beaten egg/milk/vanilla...fry gently in butter for a hot cross bun version of French toast!

asuwere · 23/02/2018 09:47

My only (non-imaginative) Easter twist is that we add mini eggs to rice crispie squares Easter Smile

Imgettingcheesefries · 23/02/2018 10:03

Unoriginal but cornflake 'nests' with mini eggs are always a hit in our house

BellaVida · 23/02/2018 10:17

My DC are not fans of dried fruit, so an alternative to traditional hot cross buns is to replace it with chocolate chips. You can add orange or lemon zest to give them a subtle tangy flavour.
Also, if you want to make brekfast fun, try boiling eggs then dipping them in beetroot or red cabbage to turn the whites pink or purply blue. If you roll the shells first to crack them, you get a marbled effect!

Easter rocky road with mini eggs, broken Easter egg, crushed Amoretti biscuits instead of digestives and cup up Peeps instead of marshmallow! Fab colours and very Easter friendly!!

ifigoup · 23/02/2018 12:37

I do the classic roast lamb for Easter lunch, but with more unusual spices like sumac or ras el hanout.

sirlee66 · 23/02/2018 13:11

Crunch up shredded wheat, cover in melted chocolate and divide into little cupcake cases. Decorate with mini eggs and you have Easter nests!!!!

Yummy and cute to boot!

Chocolate orange hot cross buns...best thing ever!

NoStraightEdges · 23/02/2018 13:29

Our Easter Sunday lunch always has creamed January King cabbage on the menu. No matter what else we're having-there'd be an outrage if the was no January King.

To make it I shred the cabbage and par boil for 2 minutes. Then I pan fry it in butter and add double cream as I'm going. Season with salt and pepper and voila!

Slow roasted lamb (with lots of olive oil and herbs rubbed into it) served with Yorkshire puddings (because it is apparently a crime to serve roast meat without them), stuffing and lots of vegetables. Dessert is topped with mini eggs (no matter what the dessert is) followed by an Easter egg hunt for all ages in the garden (you snooze, you lose). That's tradition for us!

ErinSophia · 23/02/2018 14:15

I make hot cross buns with chocolate orange sauce inside.

TheWizardofWas · 23/02/2018 14:48

We always have Jerusalem Artichokes, chopped up and cooked in lots and lots of butter. This is delicious.

Fletch80 · 23/02/2018 14:59

Make bread and butter pudding using hot cross buns instead of bread

cheekychicken24 · 23/02/2018 15:22

Home made mini Scotch eggs using quail eggs for those people without a sweet tooth! My DH hates chocolate, but he looks forward to these every year - I make some super-spicy ones & some normal. They go down a treat!

ncullinane · 23/02/2018 19:44

Use hot cross buns in bread pudding instead of the bread....yum!

CMOTDibbler · 23/02/2018 22:52

Mini egg chocolate brownies here Smile

abitoflight · 24/02/2018 00:30

Slow roast leg of lamb with rosemary - after a dog walk and a pint at a riverside pub - with the family. Perfect.
It lacks all the expectations of Christmas and comes up almost unexpectedly

jhb2013 · 24/02/2018 00:43

We have a tradition in our family of drawing our faces on eggs before boiling them for a dippy egg breakfast. My grandfather used to do it; he would lay the breakfast table the night before and when you came down in the morning you’d have to work out which egg was yours to find your place st the table. Looking forward to continuing the tradition with my two year old this Easter!
More recently we have started doing ‘Hidden Hare’, which is an Easter version of secret Santa. It means we don’t end up with everyone buying everyone else chocolate - good for the waist line!!

Nothing too adventurous here! Traditional roast lamb for Easter Sunday lunch. Hot Cross Buns in the house in the weeks leading up to Easter . I always intend to make one of those delicious creme egg cheesecakes I see on social media but haven't got round to it yet. Maybe this year!

Byrdie · 24/02/2018 10:52

I love easter and the memories I have as a child hunting around the garden for our Easter treats. It's not a particularly amazing twist but we don't search for chocolate eggs in the garden but we hunt for baskets. Each basket belongs to child and is filled with lots of goodies and of course boiled eggs that we have decorated that immediately eat for breakfast!

TheKnackeredChef · 24/02/2018 12:17

Last Easter I'd got a bottle of mulled wine hanging around from Christmas, so I used it to slow cook a shoulder of lamb in. It was absolutely fantastic and one I'll definitely repeat this Easter - I even saved the mulled wine especially for it!

I got a brilliant tip from Nigel Slater. If you have ludicrous quantities of leftover cheap Easter eggs and sweets, and are having family round on Easter Sunday then bake a Victoria sandwich, and as soon as it’s cooled enough to get it out of the tin, put a load of mashed up egg chocolate in between the two layers, and several mini eggs/ other chocolate treats on top and then shove it back in the cooling oven for 5 minutes until all the chocolate is melted and serve in slices with single cream. Heaven.

WinkyisbackontheButterBeer · 24/02/2018 13:03

When we were little my mum always helped us to make a carrot cake the day before Easter so that we could leave a slice for the Easter bunny 🐰.
On Easter morning we would go for a long walk with the dogs and take a flask and our cake with us.
She started such a lovely tradition that I can’t wait to continue with dd when she is old enough.

peronel · 24/02/2018 14:01

Marble hard boiled eggs by wrapping eggs in onion skins then tie in newspaper. Hard boil as usual - they look really pretty!
