Thankfully my daughters are good eaters as are myself and my husband so cooking a meal that everyone likes is easy. Our favourite staple meal is what we call 'Variety Pasta'. It consists of wholemeal pasta, bacon, sausages and cheese. It's so quick and easy to make and always goes down well. Xx

One of our family faves is creamy garlic prawns - dump frozen prawns in pan, add some frozen peas and any other green veg that is cooked or fast cooking, splodge of low fat cream cheese with garlic and herbs, heat through and you're done. If served with microwave rice, fresh pasta or rice noodles, it's on the plate in under 5 mins

Pesto pasta! A MN cliché but so good. I do it with penne, pesto, bacon lardons and frozen peas.
Often, I make the pesto from scratch (can only buy stupidly expensive fresh pesto not jars due to nut allergies) and when I do, I'll also blitz extra green veg (spinach, kale, broccoli) and noone is any the wiser.

Macaroni is our go-to easy dish that everyone eats. I vary the frozen veg I chuck in so its slightly different each time but still loved!

Chilli Con Carne!

I make variations on it depending what is hanging around, but it is very popular in my house.

Spaghetti bolognese. Although it probably isn't very Italian the way we do it as I chuck everything in from the bottom drawer of the fridge that I want to use up!

Meatballs and pasta is on our menu almost weekly.
Pack of mince combined with a tsp of chilli flakes, egg, handful of breadcrumbs and handful of hard cheese. Made in to equal sized balls brown off in a large deep pan and pour over 2 large bottles of pasata handful of torn basil leaves and cook for about an hour. Serve with spaghetti. Usually feed three of us for 2 nights and a freezer portion if we're not being greedy pigs!

Chicken traybake...very simple and very tasty. I put chicken thighs on a large baking tray...add diced potatoes, onions, peppers, tomatoes, garlic, drizzle with olive oil and squeeze a lemon over it all. Roast for about an hour.

Pasta carbonara is our go to quick family meal. Onion, courgette, mushrooms and bacon cooked in a large pan, at the same time get some pasta cooking. We keep hens so have loads of eggs available, the sauce is just egg yolks and parmesan mixed together. Once the pasta is cooked chicken it in the pan with the bacon and veg, take off the heat and stir in the egg and cheese mix. Done! Super yummy and very quick.

Tuna pasta bake:
Cook the pasta and rain into a large oven dish, stir in a tin (or 2 if you feel generous), chopped tomatoes, sweetcorn, garlic, herbs, slat and pepper and top with grated cheese and crushed ready salted crisps.
Bake for about 30 mins and serve.

Cottage pie, every time we perhaps have this once a fortnight. I love that it's pure comfort food, and there's always plenty for lunch the next day!

'Cowboy' pie- sausages and beans topped with mash (usually add carrots in with the mash too) then cheese and bake. I struggle to find things all the kids like but they love this

My kids love courgette and bacon risotto and chicken/bacon pie. Bacon seems to feature a lot!

Our staple, much-loved and always polished off meals are:

Sausage, mashed potato and peas (good quality Cumberland sausages and frozen peas are perfect here!);

Spaghetti bolognese (particularly using fresh pasta, good quality beef steak mince and a reduced herby chopped tomato/red wine sauce); and

Lentil (Dahl) curry using red lentils, rice and spinach.

We try to have at least one of these dishes every week, as it's a guaranteed successful and welcome meal everyone will eat.

None have required adaptation, as they are all classic and straightforward meals. None are especially spicy (though the curry can have more chilli added for us adults if needed) and it means we all enjoy the same meal, at the same time, together Smile

Stuff on toast or stuff on baked potatoes.
Cheap, easy, filling, nutritious, can be easily varied and everyone will eat it.

Sausage casserole, with mushrooms or lentils, or not, depending on whether mushroom-hating child is to be eating it and whether we need to bulk it out, with a slug or whatever red wine is on the go...or not. Sausages can be standard, chipolata or chorizo-tinged, or with the addition of actual chorizo if there’s any around, or bacon if there’s a spare rasher. Served with rice, or couscous, or crusty bread, or mash or root veg mash. Basically as long as it’s got a tin of tomatoes, a splash of Lea and Perrins and a spoon of Dijon mustard you’re laughing.

Sausage pasta - fry up a pack of sausages. Add a can of chopped tomatoes, a can of sweetcorn, fried onion, chopped garlic, half a teaspoon of mango chutney to sweeten. Then add to cooked pasta.

Chicken dinner and Thai curry (red or green) we buy a whole chicken and the on offer veg for the week. Then the next day we use the left over chicken, micro rice and any leftover veg and whack it all in a pan with some curry paste and coconut milk Grin

Cheesy jackets. Cook jacket potatoes in the microwave. Paint skin with oil and add salt. Crisp in the oven. Cut longways and scoop out the middle of each potato. Add to a bowl and mash. Add a dash of milk, grated cheddar, black pepper. Spoon back into the potato skins. Top with more cheddar and a slice of mozzarella. Put back in the oven until the cheese has melted. We have this alongside something else such as corn on the cob, peas etc. Not the healthiest of meals but it's delicious.

Our 2 year old ds has allergies to dairy, egg, soya and wheat, so as you can imagine many of the family staples I grew up with are out of the question. However one childhood meal of mine has become his firm favourite, and thankfully it's blissfully simple and covers a good many nutritional bases! And it's good old savoury mince:

Finely dice an onion, soften in oil with a few finely diced carrots. Add mince to brown and a couple of crushed garlic cloves. Stir in a couple of tablespoons of tomato puree for a minute or two, then add maybe half a litre of good quality liquid beef stock. Chuck in two bay leaves, maybe some thyme and simmer semi-covered for 1hr plus until it's "done", stir in a tonne of frozen peas for the last few minutes and voila! Perfect with potatoes or gluten free pasta.

Beef and mushroom stew (which I split - make the mushroom one for me and add the beef for the meat eaters). Seal the beef in a frying pan. Sweat off an onion, add a finely chopped red pepper. Wipe and roughly chop a large pile of mushrooms. Add to onion pan and gently let cook. Add mushroom stock. Add pot of creme fraiche and gently heat. Add a bit of cornflour to thicken. I then split the mixture, add the beef and then cook on a low heat in the pot in the oven for 90mins. I serve with rice or mash. Easy and everyone eats it
