The team behind the new Julia Roberts, Owen Wilson and Jacob Tremblay movie, Wonder, would love to know what Mumsnetters think about the trailer for the film - which opens on 1 December.

PLUS...: If you were lucky enough to be able to attend one of the free screenings (held to celebrate World Kindness Day on November 13th at 300 cinemas across the UK) then please share your movie review below! What did you think of the film? Would you recommend it?

Here's the synopsis: “starring Julia Roberts, Owen Wilson and Jacob Tremblay and based on the New York Times bestseller, WONDER tells the story of August Pullman. Born with facial differences that, up until now, have prevented him from going to a mainstream school, Auggie becomes the most unlikely of heroes when he enters the local fifth grade. As his family, his new classmates, and the larger community all struggle to find their compassion and acceptance, Auggie's extraordinary journey will unite them all and prove you can't blend in when you were born to stand out.”

Watch the trailer here:

~ What did you think?
~ Have you read the book (it’s based on the book by R.J. Palacio)?
~ What looks good about the film?

Add your review of the trailer (or film if you have seen it) to this thread and you will be entered into a prize draw where one winner will get a £300 voucher for the store of choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck

The film definitely. It looks really thought provoking.

It's a good trailer, looks like a good film.
I've never read the book but now tempted.
The film looks like it will be a bit weapy but with a positive ending.
I doubt I'll get a chance to go to see it but I will watch it when its released on TV demand service. DS2 wants to watch it too.

I've got some tickets thank you :) looking forward to it is right up my street - probably less so for OH but tough ;) it's happily coincided with an unexpected child free night!

Looks like it might be a weepy though so will take some tissues

I haven't read the book or heard of it before this post I'll be honest. Love a Julia Roberts movie, don't think I've ever seen a bad one.

Perhaps more sentimental than my usual choice of film, but the subject matter looks interesting and thought provoking.

~ What did you think?
It looks like I will need a few tissues to get through the full film.
~ Have you read the book (it’s based on the book by R.J. Palacio)?
No.
~ What looks good about the film?
I saw Jacob Tremblay in Room recently, he is growing up to be a great actor by the look of it. The theme really resonated about the whole anxiety on behalf of your child and the meanness of kids but ultimately the hopefulness there are more nice ones than not out there.
~ Do you think you’ll go and see it?
Probably wait for it to come on Netflix/Amazon - I can't make the Monday screenings as it's in the middle of kid's clubs.

Trailer seemed quite upbeat.
Never read/heard of the book.
The film looks quite inspiring and uplifting.
Possibly. Don't get the chance to go the cinema muchbut if mychildren were a bit older I would definitely take them to see it. It seems like a film that both parents and children can enjoy.

The trailer was interesting because I have read the book ..about 3 or 4 years ago when I picked it up in the library (in the children's section) for one of my kids...they didn't read it but I did because I find the whole subject interesting, probably because I have a special needs kid. The book is very moving and written in turn from the different characters' perspective - highly recommended.
I have got tickets for Monday and am looking forward to the film and hope that it lives up to the book. I am really hoping that all 4 of our family will be able to get there as I think it is a film that will be good for children to see.

~ What did you think?
I thought ‘I wonder if this is based on a true story’ because other wise it looks like an unrealistic tale of something very unlikely whereas actually the kid would not really become super popular in the way Hollywood seems to think happens

~ Have you read the book (it’s based on the book by R.J. Palacio)?

No. I might - see above
~ What looks good about the film?

THe acting

nope
~ What looks good about the film?

nice positive responsible film, good characters and performances

I think I'll wait for it to come to TV, I very rarely can afford the cinema with a babysitter etc.

~ What did you think?
It looks really tough to watch - of course ultimately heartwarming, but harrowing along the way. Acting looks quite good - Julia Roberts looks pained and mumsy.

~ Have you read the book (it’s based on the book by R.J. Palacio)?
DD read it and really liked it - so I caught a lot of it while that was happening.

~ What looks good about the film?
Tackling an important theme and not shying away from showing us the pain and brutality.

~ Do you think you’ll go and see it?
DD will want to - probably. I think I might find it rather painful and not sure if DS will like it - bit too realistic for him. But it would be good for him to think about its message. So I may take him too.

It looks like it will be a real year-jerker but hopefully lots of feel-good moments too. Jason Tremblay is a great actor, he was fantastic in Room. I always enjoy Owen Wilson and Julia Roberts in films.

I haven't heard of or read the book.

The attitude of the children who show kindness towards August and the strong support of his family look inspirational. As above the cast is strong.

Yes I will go and see the film thanks to the free tickets. I'm looking forward to it.

What did you think?

Pleasantly surprised. I wasn’t aware there was a film in the pipeline. Not a great fan of Owen Wilson but he looks OK in it. Like Julia Roberts so will be good to see how she portrays Auggie’s mum.

Have you read the book (it’s based on the book by R.J. Palacio)?

Yes, ds1 read it in class and raved about it so we ended up buying it and I read it at bedtime to ds1 and ds2. It was a good read. I enjoyed it and they loved it.

What looks good about the film?

As mentioned above, Julia Roberts. Also it’s great to take the dc to see something that isn’t animated. Proper actors on the screen. Makes a nice change.

Do you think you’ll go and see it?

Definitely. We can’t make Monday, sadly. Too busy. But I’ve mentioned it to ds1 and he’s keen to go when it opens.

~ What did you think? We are Wonder fans in our house and have been eagerly awaiting this release. 4 primary dc here - 2 with ASD. My youngest is very excited to see Miss O from Odd Squad as summer
~ Have you read the book (it’s based on the book by R.J. Palacio)? Yes, both books (actually the third toddler book also). I've read them with my three oldest dc individually.
~ What looks good about the film? It'll be interesting to see how the story is portrayed as a story from individual character's perspective into one movie.
~ Do you think you’ll go and see it? Most definitely, we didn't get the free tickets, but we are definite fans here of the book, and I'm keen to see if this will hold for the film too.

Myself and my 9 year old both loved the book, and are really looking forward to the film. We are hoping the film portrays Auggie's thoughts and feelings as well as the book does. The film looks interesting and it would be great to get free tickets, but we will probably watch it if we have to pay too.

What did you think? - I think that the film looks very moving and true to life.
Have you read the book? - No but I wish I had! I will seek it out.
What looks good about the film? - The story line is not exactly typical Hollywood and it seems to be true to life (children's reactions) but with a happy ending which you of course hope for.
Will you go and see it? - Yes.

The trailer had me weeping so I'm sure you will need lots of tissues to watch this one, Fabulous cast with a real feel good factor to it by the end. Uplifting for Christmas.

The trailer certainly made me want to see it. I liked it a lot. Although I'd watch Julia Roberts reading the phone directory out loud for 140 minutes, so I'm probably biased. I haven't read the book, or even heard of it, so it's a new one on me. I think the casting looks excellent and it's the sort of thing I'd sit down and watch with my DCs. Not enough blood or explosions for DP, so I'd most likely send him off out on his motorbike so I could blub at the inevitable weepy bits without him rolling his eyes at me.

Thanks for the tip about the freebie showings. I'll try and take advantage of that.

I think it looks good. But I may need tissues as there will be sad and sweet moments.

I haven't read the book as I have a stack I'm slowly working my way through before I can get any more books.

I think the film looks good and has a warm almost hopeful vibe to it.

I have got tickets to see it. Looking forward to it.

~ What looks good about the film? I know it will be an emotional one, hopefully uplifting, I've heard such good things about the film and the book.

Yes, and so has my DS.

What looks good about the film?
It looks fun and funny.

Do you think you’ll go and see it?
I was already thinking I would take my DS to see it, so yes.
