If summer is over then Halloween can't be far away. If you go all out at Halloween Lidl would love to hear what makes your Halloween party go with a bang, groan or rattle of a chain.

Do you have some seriously spooky snacks you serve up, some particularly petrifying party game or maybe your pumpkin carving skills are legendary (post pics - we WANT to see them!)? Are you a favourite stop for sweets or boo-tiful baking? Maybe you've come up with a genius way to dress the house for the scary season? Or do you have a tasty pumpkin recipe up your sleeve? Whatever your tips, tricks or recipes are we'd love to know.

I love Halloween and have big plans for this year - my favourite game is taping strands of toilet roll from one wall to the other in the hallway to create a Mission impossible style game - get from one end to the other without touching any loo roll! Plastic spiders optional!
I don't like the smell of pumpkins so I'm going to make papier-mâché pumpkins to hang from the ceiling with invisible thread to make it look like they're floating. I'll do different sizes with different expressions.

One year we had written the party games on bits of paper, put them in balloons with spooky confetti and attached the balloons to a spooky banner. The kids loved popping the balloons to find out what game was next.
You can't beat ducking for apples or the mummy game- split kids into teams and put kitchen/toilet roll on a wooden spoon then get them to wrap it round one person. Whatever team does the best job in mummifying (wrapping in kitchen/toilet roll) wins. 🎃

We have lots of halloween lanterns of different shapes and sizes so have them lit to help the atmosphere, we play lots of games and dress up. We have party food like witches fingers (hotdogs in pastry or chicken strips) and worms (cooked pasta) and spooky jelly. One of our favourite games is a big sealed box full of objects, there is a small hole and you have to feel for an object and if you guess what it is you win. Furry spiders always help that one! Some sppoky music is good too.

You can make fantastic ghosts to hang from the ceiling with a piece of white fabric or crepe paper over a balloon. Put threads on the upside down balloons and pierce through the fabric with each thread attached to a needle. Draw on spooky face and suspend from ceiling or wherever...

I love the old school games - suspend a donut from a string and try and eat it without using your hands, bobbing for apples etc.

Also love creating a spooky playlist.

One year we had a power cut and it was quite spooky....

Toilet paper mummies is an absolute riot. The room looks like a bomb has hit it by the end but actually it only takes 5 minutes to pick up the bits.

If children are going to be arriving in dribs and drabs then the blindfold touch and feel game (lychee eyeballs, spaghetti guts etc) is good because you can run each child through it as they arrive and then they can watch the newcomers squeal in their turn. It breaks the ice nicely for slightly older children, and gets them in the mood.

I like to make my mum's pumpkin muffins: cook pumpkin in oven and puree in a blender. Stir together flour, sugar, bicarb, baking powder, cloves, cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice and salt. In a separate bowl, beat together the pumpkin puree, vegetable oil and eggs. Stir pumpkin mixture into flour mixture until smooth. Scoop muffin mixture into prepared muffin cups. Bake in preheated oven for 25 minutes

younger DC get to draw faces on milk bottles with a black sharpie - I then cut out a hole in the back and pop a tea light in; makes a great ghost light!
A huge bowl of strawberry jelly chopped up, take it in turns to put hands in and find 'body parts' hiding in there! (then DC eat the jelly!) Gross and fun!
Plus have to have dooking for apples and toilet paper mummies :)

We decorate little oranges like they are carved pumpkins and they are big hit with the kids who come round the door (as well as a handful of sweets of course).

Also use the pumpkin flesh you carve out for spiced pumpkin chocolate chip muffins... so good.

The best Halloween game ever when I was a kid was where you all sit in a circle in the dark with your hands behind your back and someone puts things into your hands saying that they're something spooky (e.g. They'd put cooked spaghetti in your hands and say it was entrails etc). We LOVED it. I would play it at a Halloween party if I held one now.

I make tablet to go in the Halloween bags, decorate small oranges so they have scary faces and have a Halloween party at my house where everyone writes a Halloween poem and the person with the best poem gets a cauldron full of Halloween sweets.

Carrying on from my childhood, we have a spooky tea and do games as a family, have never actually done a Halloween party

Food is generally -
Vampire blood - cherryade
Witches blood - limeaid
Worms, blood and clots (Wbc) - spaghetti bolognese
Snotty nose - triangular cakes with green custard

Games are
apple on string, try to eat without using hands
Doughnuts on string, try to eat without using hands, not allowed to lick lips
Apple bobbing
Eyes closer and putting hands in to tubs with things in - spider toys/mashed jelly/cold spaghetti(worms)/grapes (eye balls)
Awards for best pumpkin - most inventive / prettiest or neatest cutting / scariest / funniest etc
Face paint each other

Trick or treat game - we don't actually trick or treat but do dress up to hand sweets out to people who knock. We have paper in a tub with either trick or treat on, everyone goes round and picks a piece and then gets a trick or treat from list we made together. Fun to do, DC feel like they've done trick or treating, and no complaining about tricks or treats because we made the lists together

10yo ds LOVES halloween so party or not the whole house gets decorated! We all have a pumpkin each and carve them all together.

I like having a fancy dress station so people can mix and match costumes.

An easy way to safely let children decorate pumpkins without letting them loose with knives is to give them a whole pumpkin and some felt tips

Apple bobbing is the best Halloween party game! We don't go in for anything too scary so I'd do cute pumpkins rather than fake blood.

We had a halloween party last year, and it was the best party we've done I think. The main thing they all liked was they just got lots and lots of sweets!! We figured they'd get lots if they went trick or treating (which we don't do) so just dished the sweets out instead for everything..good dancing, good costumes, the games etc. We gave each child a bag with their name on it and it was their mission to fill it with sweets by the end of the party - and we made sure they were all topped up by the end.

I think Halloween parties are a good opportunity for all kids to feel 'special' - it's no-ones birthday and rather than have lots of competitive games, they all seemed to just enjoy dancing, playing and having sweets.

Nothing spectacular(spooktacular) groan but we always have a big pan of hot bovril laced with Cayenne Pepper to keep us warm outside fo halloween whilst the kids are playing games etc.
